If you need YouTube to save the broadcast, plan around its 12-hour archive limit: streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a continuous series, use separate sessions under 12 hours and keep a local recording backup.
Before you start: enable live streaming and choose a session plan
YouTube’s encoder workflow is intended for gameplay and other advanced productions. Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the day you plan to broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
Decide whether the broadcast should be one long event or a sequence of shorter sessions. A long event offers uninterrupted viewing, but YouTube warns that a live stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you want a usable YouTube archive, end each session before it reaches 12 hours, start a new event, and save a local recording as a backup. The shorter-session approach involves more event setup and brief breaks, but gives you a more dependable path to an archive. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Set up Roblox gameplay as a YouTube Live encoder stream
- Enable live streaming in advance. Verify the channel and check that it has no live-streaming restrictions from the past 90 days. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement.
- Create or schedule an encoder event. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that event.
- Add the event details to your encoder. Select YouTube or YouTube RTMPS if available. Otherwise, enter the stream URL and key from Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: it authorizes the encoder to send video to the event. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming again. See YouTube’s stream management help.
- Capture Roblox and set up audio. Add Roblox gameplay as the encoder’s video source. Include game audio, and add a microphone only if you plan to speak. Check the game and commentary levels separately so one does not drown out the other. YouTube describes encoder setups that combine gameplay with external audio or video equipment; extra audio hardware is optional, not a streaming requirement.
- Configure video quality for your connection. Use a quality your upload connection can sustain consistently. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 as supported video codecs for standard encoder streams, with up to 60 frames per second. Its general encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. For H.264 at 1080p60, YouTube lists 12 Mbps as the recommended video bitrate and 6 Mbps as the minimum; those figures are specific to that codec, resolution, and frame rate, not universal targets for every setup. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings and match the settings to the output your connection can reliably maintain.
- Use RTMPS when available. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the feed in transit. Select it in the encoder or use the RTMPS stream URL provided by YouTube.
- Test the feed before making it public. Start the encoder early and check that its preview appears in Live Control Room. Test representative Roblox movement and sound, review stream-health messages, and confirm that the local recording is growing if you are recording locally. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring audio and video quality.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Once the feed is ready, start the event in Live Control Room. Keep an eye on stream health, picture, sound, interruptions, and the local recording throughout the session.
- End the session deliberately. Stop the stream using your chosen encoder and YouTube workflow, then check YouTube Studio for the archive. For a series that needs a YouTube archive, start a fresh session before the current one reaches 12 hours and retain the local recording as a backup.
Make a continuous series reliable and watchable
Plan session boundaries around the archive
For a multi-session series, decide in advance when each broadcast will end and how the next one will begin. Keep each session under 12 hours if you want YouTube’s automatic archive, and allow time to verify the saved video before relying on it. YouTube’s guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; it does not guarantee capture for streams over 12 hours. A local recording protects you if a platform archive is missing or incomplete.

Keep the feed and sound consistent
Test the same gameplay capture, audio sources, and encoder settings you intend to use live. During the broadcast, monitor for dropped or frozen video, missing game audio, microphone clipping, and stream-health warnings. If you do not plan to provide commentary, you do not need to add a microphone just to stream Roblox.
Keep Roblox policy scope clear
Roblox’s Video Highlight Guidelines cover videos added to an experience’s details page. Those rules say that such highlights cannot be commercial or carry outside-vendor advertisements attached to the YouTube video; they also require Roblox-themed content and prohibit personal identifying information. That page does not establish a blanket ban on monetizing an ordinary YouTube livestream made outside an experience page.

Roblox’s separate Video Stars Program page describes a program for top Roblox video and livestream creators and says Roblox video content must comply with Roblox’s Terms of Use and Community Standards. Program eligibility and Roblox-hosted highlight rules are distinct from the technical steps for sending an encoder feed to YouTube. Check the current applicable Roblox terms before making monetization or program-eligibility decisions.
