You can keep Telugu bhajans playing on YouTube with FFmpeg on a VPS by creating a YouTube Live stream, feeding FFmpeg a playlist that does not run out, and supervising the encoder so it can be restarted if it exits. First confirm you have permission to stream every recording and performance. Then use YouTube’s RTMPS ingest address and current encoder settings, and test the complete setup in Live Control Room before relying on it.
Before you start: rights, media, and VPS access
Gather the audio or video files you intend to play, a VPS where you can install and run FFmpeg, and access to the YouTube channel’s Live Control Room. Plan how the playlist will repeat and how you will monitor the encoder and incoming stream.
Confirm rights to each recording
Devotional subject matter does not by itself make a recording free to stream. Check that you have the necessary rights for the compositions, sound recordings, and performances in your playlist. YouTube scans live content for third-party matches; a stream may be replaced, interrupted, or terminated. If a rights holder licensed material for your stream, check whether the channel needs to be allowlisted through Content ID. See YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and its guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Check the VPS arrangement
Make sure your VPS provider permits sustained outbound streaming and that your plan’s network-transfer limits, region, and price suit continuous use. Those terms vary by provider and plan. Keep the media source available to the VPS for the entire run, and arrange a way to check process status and YouTube’s incoming stream health.

Create a YouTube Live stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create or select a stream using the encoder workflow described in YouTube’s guide to creating a live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. Depending on the encoder interface, these may be entered separately or combined as the ingest address followed by the stream name/key. YouTube documents that format in its LiveStreams API reference.
- Treat the key as a password: do not put a real key in a tutorial, screenshot, shell history, or public repository. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room. YouTube explains stream-key management in Manage live stream settings.
Choose RTMPS and encoder settings
Use the RTMPS ingestion address supplied by YouTube in Live Control Room. RTMPS is YouTube’s encrypted RTMP option; its documented requirements include the rtmps scheme, a valid endpoint, and port 443. Confirm the exact address and connection requirements against YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion guide.
Set FFmpeg to output a supported live audio/video feed. For a static image accompanying bhajan audio, this still means sending both video and audio in a format YouTube accepts. YouTube’s published encoder guidance calls for H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate (CBR). It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds; its advanced settings also list 44.1 kHz for stereo audio. Frame rates up to 60 fps are supported. Bitrate depends on the selected resolution and stream type, so use the current resolution-specific values in YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions rather than assuming one bitrate fits every stream.

Prepare a playlist that will not stop at the end
Choose the media arrangement before building the FFmpeg command: a single track, a playlist of files, or a video with a static visual. Check that each file plays, that transitions and audio levels are acceptable, and that the chosen playlist behavior will not simply reach end-of-file and stop. The exact command depends on the file formats and input arrangement, so verify loop behavior and options against the installed FFmpeg version. The FFmpeg command-line documentation describes its general input and output model; it is not a tested production command for every playlist.
Do not publish a command containing a real stream key. If you store the key in a script or service configuration, restrict access to that file and avoid exposing it in logs or process-management interfaces.

Run FFmpeg on the VPS and supervise it
Start FFmpeg with the prepared media input, the encoder settings appropriate to your output, and YouTube’s RTMPS URL and key. Keep the process running under a service manager or other supervisor that can detect an exit and restart it. Also monitor the VPS and YouTube’s incoming stream status: restarting a process after it exits is not seamless failover, and a restart may interrupt the broadcast.
FFmpeg’s documentation lists HTTP input reconnection options such as reconnect, reconnect_at_eof, reconnect_on_network_error, and reconnect_streamed. These describe HTTP protocol behavior; they do not guarantee recovery for a failed RTMPS output. Check the options supported by your installed version in the FFmpeg protocols documentation, and do not treat input reconnect flags as an output-recovery system.

Test the stream before leaving it unattended
- Start FFmpeg and check Live Control Room for an incoming feed and a healthy status.
- Confirm the expected video and audio are present and that playback continues through the playlist boundary.
- Perform a controlled FFmpeg restart and observe what viewers see and how quickly the feed returns.
- Check your monitoring and restart procedure for a process exit or VPS/network interruption before relying on the setup for continuous operation.
These are operational checks for your own deployment, not a guarantee that every VPS, network, or YouTube session will recover identically.

YouTube documents the 24/7 broadcast use case, but stream continuity and archive creation are separate concerns. Its encoder setup help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that is not a promise of one archive for a longer broadcast. If viewers need one uninterrupted watch page, a continuous broadcast may fit better. If dependable archives matter, consider shorter broadcasts or a separate recording workflow, and verify current YouTube behavior for your channel. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Troubleshooting common failures
- YouTube receives no feed: Check that the stream URL, RTMPS endpoint, port, and key match the current Live Control Room settings. Confirm the VPS can make the required outbound connection.
- The key no longer works: Re-copy the key for the selected stream. If it may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the protected encoder configuration.
- The feed stops when a track ends: The input or playlist reached end-of-file. Recheck the playlist and loop behavior for your media arrangement and installed FFmpeg version.
- The stream is interrupted after a rights match: Review the recording and performance permissions and any Content ID allowlisting requirement with the rights holder. Do not assume a devotional or traditional work makes a particular recording unrestricted.
- FFmpeg exits or fails to recover after a network problem: Check the process logs, VPS connectivity, and supervisor status. HTTP input reconnection options do not themselves reconnect a failed RTMPS output; use process supervision and verify recovery behavior in your own setup.
- The long broadcast has no single archive: YouTube’s automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours. Use shorter broadcasts or a separate recording workflow if you need dependable archives.
