You can use OBS to send a prerecorded video or playlist to YouTube Live continuously: enable live streaming on your verified channel, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, enter its stream key in OBS, and start the broadcast after checking the preview and stream health. The setup is the same in India as elsewhere; what matters locally is that your channel is eligible and your internet connection can sustain the stream. A 24/7 broadcast is an operational goal, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service—and a YouTube stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived at all.
Before you start: check channel access and content rights
Confirm that the channel can go live
YouTube’s live-stream requirements include a verified channel with no live-stream restriction during the previous 90 days. YouTube also sets a minimum age of 16 for live streaming. Check the channel’s current live-stream status in YouTube Studio rather than assuming access is ready. Activation after verification can take time; an OBS community guide says it may take 24 hours, but the Studio status is the more useful check for your account.
A restriction applies to the channel: YouTube says a restricted channel cannot use another channel to evade it. Resolve the restriction through the channel’s normal process instead of trying to route around it.
Make sure every audio and video element is cleared
You are responsible for having the rights needed to stream the content, including music and other embedded audio. Use original, licensed, or otherwise authorized material, and confirm that the relevant license permits continuous live use in the territories where you intend to broadcast. A video already uploaded to YouTube is not automatically cleared for rebroadcast. Repeating a video around the clock does not change those obligations; YouTube’s Community Guidelines and applicable laws still apply.

Prepare the video, computer, and internet connection
Choose a video source that can run continuously
In OBS, add the video as a media source or build a scene around the content you want viewers to see. For a single video, configure the source to loop if you want it to repeat. For a playlist or a more involved sequence, arrange and test the scenes and sources before going live. Watch the entire transition between items: a source that ends, goes black, or stops advancing can leave the stream connected while showing the wrong output.
OBS must stay open and keep sending the stream. The computer needs enough capacity for the chosen output settings, and the network path must remain stable. If other devices share the connection, their use can reduce the bandwidth available to OBS.
Set a sustainable output and leave upload headroom
YouTube recommends that the total streaming bitrate stay within the available upload bandwidth and advises leaving 20% headroom. For example, if OBS sends video and audio at a combined bitrate of 10 Mbps, aim for at least 12.5 Mbps of available upload capacity under the conditions when you will actually stream. That is a planning calculation, not a promise that the connection will remain stable overnight.

In OBS > Settings > Output, use CBR for the encoder rate control. In OBS > Settings > Video and Output, choose a resolution and bitrate your computer and connection can sustain; do not choose the maximum just because it is available. YouTube recommends a keyframe interval of two seconds and says it should not exceed four seconds. Use AAC or MP3 audio. Where supported, use RTMPS for the connection to YouTube. YouTube’s current encoder guidance should take precedence if labels or supported options change.

Create the YouTube Live stream and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create a new stream or schedule one for later. Scheduling can create a watch page viewers can visit in advance.
- Choose the encoder workflow. In the stream setup, select the option for streaming software or an encoder. YouTube provides a server URL and stream key for the broadcast.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. Open OBS > Settings > Stream. Select YouTube if it is offered, or choose the custom server option and enter the server URL and stream key supplied in YouTube Studio. OBS account integration is another possible route where available, but YouTube Studio’s current stream details are the source of truth.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your broadcast. Do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, reset or regenerate it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the replacement.
- Set up the OBS scene. Add the video or playlist sources, check that the intended audio is present, and confirm the preview shows the right content. If you use a media source, verify that looping behaves as expected before relying on it for a long run.
Test the stream before making it public
- Start sending from OBS. Click Start Streaming. This begins sending the encoder feed to YouTube, but does not by itself confirm that the public broadcast is live.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Confirm the picture, sound, resolution, and status messages. If the preview is missing or health warnings appear, troubleshoot before going live.
- Start the YouTube broadcast. When the preview is ready, select Go live in Live Control Room if the workflow requires it. Check the watch page from another device, including a phone, to make sure the viewer-facing stream is accessible.
- Verify local recording if you need a backup. YouTube recommends checking that the local archive file is growing. If you are recording in OBS, confirm the file is actually being written and that the computer has enough storage for the planned duration.
- Keep a monitoring plan. Watch the stream health and arrange for someone—or a monitoring process—to notice failures in OBS, the network, power, or the content source. The normal encoder workflow does not guarantee automatic recovery from every interruption.
Plan for YouTube’s 12-hour archive and DVR limits
YouTube Help warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a 24-hour feed may have no complete YouTube replay. Keep a separate, tested local recording if preserving the broadcast matters.

DVR can let viewers pause and rewind while a live stream is running, but YouTube says DVR capability may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Do not promise viewers a full-day rewind buffer.
| Broadcast approach | What it can help with | Trade-off to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| One extended stream | Fewer planned transitions for viewers who want a continuous feed. | Beyond 12 hours, YouTube may not capture an archive at all, and DVR may be limited or unavailable. An interruption can also affect continuity. |
| Shorter scheduled sessions | Sessions under 12 hours align better with YouTube’s stated archive behavior. | Ending and restarting creates transition points and may interrupt viewing; it is not a guarantee of a complete archive or uninterrupted service. |
Choose based on whether uninterrupted viewing or replay preservation matters more, and on whether you can monitor and restart the encoder. Neither approach guarantees that YouTube will archive every segment or that no failure will occur.
Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| OBS connects, but YouTube shows no usable preview | Wrong server URL or stream key, an encoder connection issue, or an OBS scene that is blank. | Compare the URL and key with the current stream details in YouTube Studio, check the OBS preview, and review Live Control Room health messages. Replace a compromised key. |
| Stream health reports unstable or insufficient bandwidth | Available upload capacity is below the total bitrate, shared-network demand, or a connection disruption. | Lower the output bitrate or resolution, check the network under real streaming conditions, reduce competing network use, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom. |
| Picture or audio is choppy, missing, or out of sync | Output settings may exceed the computer or connection’s capacity, or the source/audio configuration may be wrong. | Check OBS output and video settings, CPU or encoder load, source playback, and audio meters. Test again with representative motion and sound before returning to a public stream. |
| The video stops or the scene becomes blank while the live connection remains | The media source ended, failed to loop, or a scene/source transition was not configured as intended. | Test the full playback cycle in OBS, confirm looping and playlist transitions, and keep a monitoring process able to detect an empty output. |
| The broadcast stops after a network, power, or computer problem | The local encoder or its connection was interrupted. | Restore the device and connection, check the current YouTube stream status, then reconnect using the active stream details. Do not assume the feed recovered until the Live Control Room preview and viewer-facing page confirm it. |
| The stream is live but no complete replay appears | The stream exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold, or another archive issue occurred. | Keep a local recording for important broadcasts. Consider shorter sessions if a YouTube archive is important, while accounting for the transition points. |
Monetization: eligibility is not guaranteed by streaming longer
Channels in the YouTube Partner Program can monetize live streams when monetization is enabled. Eligibility depends on the channel and applicable YouTube requirements; continuous streaming hours alone do not establish eligibility or guarantee earnings. Monetization settings and ad delivery are not a reliable basis for predicting revenue. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not establish an India-specific earnings figure for a 24/7 OBS stream.

Can I use OBS to loop a video live on YouTube?
Yes. Add the video as a media source in an OBS scene and configure and test its loop behavior before starting the broadcast.
Is there a separate OBS workflow for India?
The YouTube encoder workflow described here is general rather than India-specific. Check your own channel’s live access and the stability of the upload connection where you will stream.
