With the headset powered on and connected to an audio source, double-press the physical Razer SmartSwitch button. The Barracuda V2 Pro changes between its USB Type-C HyperSpeed Wireless 2.4 GHz connection and Bluetooth. A green LED indicates HyperSpeed, blue indicates Bluetooth, and white means both connections are present while HyperSpeed has priority.
What the SmartSwitch changes
The Barracuda V2 Pro has two wireless paths:
- HyperSpeed Wireless: the 2.4 GHz connection supplied by the headset’s USB Type-C wireless dongle.
- Bluetooth: the alternate wireless audio connection to a paired Bluetooth device.
The SmartSwitch button is the physical control that selects which path carries audio. It does not create a new pairing each time you press it. In Bluetooth mode, the headset first attempts to reconnect to the last Bluetooth device it knows. If no known Bluetooth device is available, it enters pairing mode instead.

The official support record identifies this headset family as RZ04-03780. These instructions apply to the Barracuda V2 Pro controls described for that model family.
Switch from the USB dongle to Bluetooth
- Power on the headset. The mode toggle is available while the headset is powered on.
- Connect the headset to an audio source. Razer’s instruction specifies that the headset must be powered on and connected to an audio source before switching.
- Double-press the SmartSwitch button. The headset toggles from the USB Type-C HyperSpeed Wireless dongle to the Bluetooth audio source.
- Check the LED. Blue confirms Bluetooth mode. If a previously used Bluetooth device is available, the headset attempts to reconnect to it. If no known device is found, pairing mode activates so you can select the headset from the Bluetooth device’s connection controls.
Razer describes the control this way in the Barracuda Pro Master Guide: “When powered on and connected to any audio source, double press the Razer SmartSwitch button to switch between the USB Type C wireless dongle and Bluetooth audio source or vice versa.”

Switch back from Bluetooth to USB wireless
- Leave the headset powered on and connected to an audio source.
- Double-press the SmartSwitch button again.
- Wait for the LED to show green, which indicates HyperSpeed Wireless 2.4 GHz mode.
- Audio is now routed through the USB Type-C wireless dongle rather than the Bluetooth source.
The same double-press action works in either direction; you do not need a separate button combination for the return trip.
Use the LEDs to identify the active connection
| LED color | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Green | HyperSpeed Wireless 2.4 GHz mode is active. | Audio is using the USB Type-C wireless dongle. |
| Blue | Bluetooth mode is active. | Audio is using the selected Bluetooth source, or the headset is handling Bluetooth reconnection or pairing. |
| White | Both connections are present, with HyperSpeed Wireless 2.4 GHz prioritized. | Double-press SmartSwitch if you want Bluetooth to take over. |
The white state is important because it does not mean Bluetooth is the active audio path. It means both links are available, but the dongle connection has priority.

Why plugging in the dongle sends the headset back to 2.4 GHz
Razer treats insertion of the wireless dongle as an indication that you intend to use the dongle. Consequently, HyperSpeed Wireless receives priority when the dongle is connected. Depending on the connection state, the LED can show green for active HyperSpeed mode or white when Bluetooth is also present.

USB wireless and Bluetooth compared
| Characteristic | HyperSpeed Wireless 2.4 GHz | Bluetooth |
|---|---|---|
| Connection method | USB Type-C wireless dongle | Bluetooth audio source |
| Active-mode LED | Green | Blue |
| Dongle required for that mode | Yes | No active use of the dongle is required |
| When both links are present | Prioritized; the LED is white when both connections are present | Available, but not prioritized until SmartSwitch selects it |
| Latency or responsiveness figures | No independent numeric measurement is published in the official material for this switching question | |
The practical choice is therefore determined first by which device you need to hear and whether the USB dongle is available. The official instructions explain the connection mechanisms but do not provide an independent latency test, a switching-time measurement, or a comparative range figure. Avoid treating the color change as a numerical performance rating.
Troubleshooting the most common switching problems
Double-pressing does nothing
- Confirm that the headset is powered on.
- Confirm that it is connected to an audio source. Razer’s procedure requires both conditions before the SmartSwitch toggle.
- Press the SmartSwitch button twice as a double press, rather than using a different control or a single press.
- Look for the LED change. Green, blue, or white tells you which connection state the headset reached.
The headset immediately favors the dongle
If the dongle is connected, this is expected. Razer assigns HyperSpeed priority when the dongle is inserted. Double-press SmartSwitch once the headset is powered on and connected to an audio source to select Bluetooth manually.

The LED is white, but Bluetooth audio is not playing
White means both connections are present, not that Bluetooth is carrying the audio. HyperSpeed remains prioritized in this state. Double-press SmartSwitch and wait for blue. The headset then tries the last known Bluetooth device; if none is available, pairing mode activates.

The LED is blue, but the intended Bluetooth device is not connected
Bluetooth mode reconnects to the last known Bluetooth device. If that device is unavailable, the headset enters pairing mode. Use the Bluetooth controls on the target audio device to select the headset when pairing mode is active.

The headset returns to 2.4 GHz after reconnecting the dongle
Reconnecting the dongle deliberately restores its priority. This is the documented dongle-priority behavior, not evidence that the SmartSwitch control is broken. Select Bluetooth again with a double press if you want to keep using Bluetooth while the dongle remains connected.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A reliable switching routine
For repeatable results, connect the audio source you want to use before pressing SmartSwitch, then use the LED as confirmation. Green means stop if you wanted USB wireless; blue means stop if you wanted Bluetooth; white means both links are present but HyperSpeed is still in control. If the headset cannot find a previously known Bluetooth device, complete a new Bluetooth pairing from the source device while pairing mode is active.
Quick Recap
Key points to remember
- One SmartSwitch action controls both directions: double-press to toggle between HyperSpeed Wireless and Bluetooth.
- The headset must be powered on and connected to an audio source for the documented toggle procedure.
- Green is HyperSpeed, blue is Bluetooth, and white means both are connected with HyperSpeed prioritized.
- Plugging in the USB Type-C dongle intentionally gives 2.4 GHz priority.
- No official independent numeric latency, switching-time, reliability, or range result is established for the two modes.
