To run Soulmask: Shifting Sands on a hosted or dedicated server, stop the server, replace the normal map value Level01_Main with DLC_Level01_Main, save the startup setting, and start the server again. Every player who joins must own the base game and the Shifting Sands Steam DLC. This map uses a separate world and save from Cloud Mist Forest, so changing one server’s map is not a character transfer. If you need both worlds available and want players to move between them, configure a two-server cluster with cross-server transfer and an in-game portal.

What the Shifting Sands map code does
DLC_Level01_Main is the map identifier for the Egypt-themed Shifting Sands world. The standard Cloud Mist Forest world uses Level01_Main. A server starts one of these worlds according to the map value in its startup configuration; changing that value does not merge the worlds or convert one save into the other.

Before you change a server
Confirm the game and DLC entitlements
- The server owner needs the Soulmask base game and access to the Shifting Sands DLC.
- Every player joining a Shifting Sands server must own the DLC on Steam as well as the base game.
- A player who does not own the DLC should not be expected to load into the DLC world simply because another member of the group bought it.
Decide whether you want one world or two
A one-server map change makes that server load Shifting Sands instead of Cloud Mist Forest. Cloud Mist Forest is no longer the active world on that server until you change the value back and restart. A cluster keeps a main server and a separate Shifting Sands server online, allowing travel through configured cross-server settings and an in-game portal terminal.

Plan for a separate save
Hosting documentation identifies separate save locations for Level01_Main and DLC_Level01_Main. Treat them as separate worlds. A normal map switch does not carry an existing character into the new map automatically; documentation from multiple hosts warns that players may have to start fresh on the selected map. Make a server backup using your host’s normal backup facility before changing the map, and record the current startup value so you can restore Cloud Mist Forest if needed.
Switch a hosted or dedicated server to Shifting Sands
The labels differ between hosts, but the operation is the same: stop, change the map value, save, and start. Do not edit a running server’s map setting and assume the current process has already changed worlds.

Generic hosting-panel procedure
- Notify players that the server will be offline and stop the Soulmask server from the hosting panel.
- Open the panel page named Server Map, Startup, or an equivalent configuration or command-line page.
- Find the map or world field. If the server currently runs Cloud Mist Forest, its value is normally
Level01_Main. - Replace that value with the exact code
DLC_Level01_Main. Preserve capitalization, underscores, and spelling. - Save or apply the configuration. If the panel has both an “Apply” and a “Save” action, use both before leaving the page.
- Start the server, or use the panel’s restart action if it combines a stop and start.
- Wait for the server to finish loading, then connect as an owner or administrator and verify that the world is Shifting Sands before inviting players.
GhostCap, Game Host Bros, and XGamingServer document this stop-and-change sequence for hosted or dedicated Soulmask servers. Their panel names may differ, but the map value remains DLC_Level01_Main.
Pingperfect Commandline Manager
- Stop the Soulmask server.
- Open the host’s Commandline Manager.
- Select the command line named Shifting Sands (Egypt DLC).
- Save the command-line selection.
- Start the server and wait for the new world to initialize.
This is the same setting expressed as a preset rather than a manually entered map code. If the preset is unavailable, use the host’s equivalent startup-map field and enter DLC_Level01_Main exactly.

What happens to your Cloud Mist Forest character and items?
A simple map switch
Changing one server from Level01_Main to DLC_Level01_Main selects a different world and save path. It does not perform a cross-server transfer. Existing character data, inventory, structures, and progression from Cloud Mist Forest should therefore be considered unavailable in the Shifting Sands save unless the game’s supported transfer system moves them. Host documentation specifically warns that a straightforward switch may require players to start fresh on the selected map.
“Separate save” does not necessarily mean the old world has been erased. The practical risk is that the server is now loading a different save. Keep the original files or a host backup intact, and switch back to Level01_Main if you need to reopen Cloud Mist Forest.
A two-server cluster
If the objective is travel between both maps, run two servers rather than repeatedly changing one server’s map field. EmeraldHost’s documented arrangement uses a main server and a Shifting Sands client server, cross-server settings, and an in-game portal terminal. Players can then use the game’s transfer route instead of treating a map change as a migration.
Transfer rules still apply. EmeraldHost notes a limitation involving the first-created character, so test the transfer behavior with a non-critical character before moving a group’s main progression. Do not promise that every item, character, or progression state will transfer identically; configure and verify the game’s supported cross-server rules on your cluster.

One-server switch versus a two-server cluster

How to set up a cluster for travel between maps
1. Keep the existing world as the main server
Leave the established Cloud Mist Forest server on Level01_Main. Confirm that its save is healthy and that the server can be stopped and started normally.
2. Create or designate a second Soulmask server
Use a separate server instance for Shifting Sands and set its map to DLC_Level01_Main. Give the two instances distinct names, ports, and administration entries so players do not confuse the worlds.

3. Configure cross-server settings
Apply the host’s supported cross-server configuration so the main server recognizes the Shifting Sands server and vice versa. The exact fields depend on the host and game version; do not copy a setting intended for a different server software build without checking its current instructions.
4. Place and test the portal terminal
EmeraldHost’s documented approach uses an in-game portal terminal. Place or enable the terminal according to the game’s server configuration, then test a round trip with a test character. Confirm that the destination appears, the transfer completes, and the character returns with the expected equipment before announcing the cluster to the whole group.

5. Explain the ownership and transfer rules
Tell players that entering Shifting Sands requires the Steam DLC. Explain that cross-server travel is different from changing a map value, and that the first-created-character limitation documented for this setup may affect who can transfer. Keep the original saves until the group has completed successful tests.
Verification after the restart
- Check the server’s startup or console output for the selected map. The intended value is
DLC_Level01_Main. - Join with an account that owns the base game and DLC.
- Confirm the landscape and available features correspond to Shifting Sands rather than Cloud Mist Forest.
- Check that the server’s save directory or panel entry is the DLC world, not the
Level01_Mainsave. - Have one additional DLC owner join before opening the server to the full group.
Troubleshooting common failures
The server still opens Cloud Mist Forest
- Stop the server again before editing the setting; changing a panel value while the process is running may not affect the current session.
- Check for a second map field in the panel. Some hosts separate a visible map selector from a startup command line.
- Confirm the exact spelling
DLC_Level01_Main, including both underscores and capital letters. - Save or apply the setting, then perform a full restart rather than merely reconnecting your game client.
Players cannot join the new world
- Verify that each joining account owns the Shifting Sands DLC on Steam and the base game.
- Confirm that the server finished restarting and is advertising the new map.
- Ask a DLC owner to test first. If that account can join, the remaining failure is likely an entitlement issue rather than the map code.
Characters or bases appear to be missing
This is expected when the server has loaded the separate Shifting Sands save. A map switch is not a migration from Cloud Mist Forest. Stop making changes that could overwrite files, restore the original backup if necessary, and decide whether to return to Level01_Main or keep the DLC world as a separate progression.
The cluster portal does not show the other map
- Confirm that both server instances are online and use different, reachable endpoints.
- Recheck the cross-server configuration on both sides; a one-sided entry may not be sufficient.
- Verify that the portal terminal is present and configured in the game world.
- Test with a character that is not the first-created character, because the documented transfer limitation may apply.

Will changing the map delete my character?
A basic switch loads a separate world and save; it does not transfer the Cloud Mist Forest character automatically. The original save may remain available when you switch back, but players may need a new character in Shifting Sands.
