How to Sync a YouTube Live Playlist Schedule Across Two Streaming PCs

YouTube Studio owns the event schedule, but each PC needs its own verified encoder setup. Here’s how to coordinate two PCs and move OBS settings safely.

YouTube Studio schedules the live event, but it does not synchronize the local encoder settings or playlist schedules on two PCs. To keep both computers aligned, schedule or select the broadcast in Studio, then check each PC’s encoder destination and stream key. If you use OBS, transfer the relevant Profile separately from its Scene Collection.

What “syncing” means for a YouTube Live stream

YouTube treats the scheduled event and the encoder connection as related but distinct things. The broadcast is the YouTube event; a stream is the ingest configuration that carries audio and video to YouTube. Google describes a stream as defining the settings for transmitting content, not as a service that copies settings between computers. Google’s API reference explains the resource types, while its broadcasts and streams guide describes how they are associated.

So there is no documented built-in feature that automatically synchronizes two PCs’ local schedules, OBS profiles, scenes, or playlists. You schedule the event in YouTube Studio, then configure the encoder on whichever PC will transmit to the intended event. Follow YouTube’s encoder workflow to copy the stream URL and key into the encoder.

Choose the right setup for the two PCs

Two PCs as alternates for one broadcast

If one computer is a backup for the same scheduled event, make sure both encoders are configured for the intended YouTube stream and event. Keep the stream key private: anyone with it may be able to send video to your channel. Before switching computers, verify which encoder is currently transmitting and avoid starting an unplanned second feed to the same event.

Different broadcasts at different times

YouTube’s API guide says that a stream configuration can be reused for broadcasts scheduled at different times. This can be convenient when the events use the same encoder settings. The schedule remains in YouTube Studio; reusing a stream does not copy the schedule or local encoder configuration to another PC.

Overlapping broadcasts or different encoder settings

For recurring broadcasts that may overlap, or that need different encoder settings, Google’s guide describes using separate stream configurations. This is a YouTube resource-model recommendation, not a way to synchronize the computers. Confirm the stream-to-broadcast association for each event and configure each PC for the feed it is meant to send.

Set up the scheduled stream on both PCs

  1. Schedule or select the event in YouTube Studio. Confirm the broadcast’s title, date and time, visibility, and other event details. YouTube Studio is the source of truth for the event schedule.
  2. Decide whether both PCs are alternates or separate encoders. Reusing one stream configuration can suit events at different times; separate configurations may be more appropriate for overlapping recurring events or differing settings.
  3. Check the encoder destination on each PC. In YouTube Studio, open the intended live event and obtain the stream URL and key for the stream you intend to use. In each encoder, verify that its destination and key point to the intended stream. Do not assume that signing in to the same channel makes the local settings match.
  4. Transfer OBS settings if needed. On the source PC, export the OBS Profile that contains the relevant Stream, Video, and Output settings; import it on the other installation. OBS documents Profiles as JSON exports and imports on its Profiles page. Transfer the Scene Collection separately if the scenes and sources also need to match: a Profile does not include them.
  5. Check the active event and encoder before transmission. On the PC that will go live, verify the selected YouTube event and the encoder destination. YouTube’s API documentation describes automatic start when video begins on a bound stream and automatic stop around one minute after streaming stops when those options are enabled. Confirm the event’s Studio controls rather than assuming automatic behavior is active.
  6. Verify the feed in Studio. Start the encoder intended to transmit and check the event’s preview or stream status in YouTube Studio before relying on it as live. Repeat the destination check after changing PCs or events.

Move an OBS Profile without confusing it with a Scene Collection

An OBS Profile is useful for moving output-related settings between PCs, including stream, video, and output configuration. A Scene Collection holds the scenes and sources. OBS explicitly distinguishes the two: its Profiles documentation says Profiles do not store Scenes and directs users to Scene Collections for those. Export and import the appropriate material separately if both machines need the same output settings and the same layout.

Profile transfer does not synchronize YouTube Studio’s scheduled events. After importing it, check the stream destination and key on the receiving PC; credentials or destination details should not be assumed to be correct merely because a Profile was imported.

Troubleshoot mismatched schedules and feeds

The event is scheduled, but the encoder is not sending to it

Cause: The event exists in Studio, but the PC’s encoder is set to another stream URL or key, or is using a different destination configuration. Fix: Open the intended event in Studio, copy its stream details, and verify the encoder settings on the PC that will transmit.

The second PC has different OBS output settings

Cause: OBS settings are local to the installation and were not transferred. Fix: Export and import the relevant Profile, then separately transfer the Scene Collection if scenes and sources must match.

The stream drops frames on one PC

Cause: Each PC sends its own feed over its own outbound internet connection. OBS says that it streams directly to the service; an unstable connection or one unable to sustain the selected bitrate can cause dropped frames. Fix: Check the transmitting PC’s upload connection and whether it can sustain the configured bitrate. Changing the other PC’s settings will not repair the active computer’s connection. See the OBS Help Portal’s dropped-frames guidance.

The stream starts or stops without the expected event behavior

Cause: Automatic start and stop depend on the broadcast’s configuration and the stream bound to it. Fix: Check the event controls in Studio and verify that the encoder is sending to the stream associated with that broadcast. Google’s LiveBroadcasts API reference, last updated 2026-09-14 UTC, documents the automatic-start and automatic-stop properties; it does not establish that every scheduled event uses them.
