Check your Steam profile for a permanent game-ban notice, then check Steam > Settings > Account > “Click here for details” under VAC Status to see whether a VAC ban applies and which games it affects. A missing profile notice does not rule out a temporary developer-issued suspension, and an error joining a match or server is not proof of a Steam ban.
Check the places Steam shows restrictions
- Look at your Steam Community profile. A permanent game ban is displayed there. Temporary developer-issued bans or suspensions do not appear on profiles, so no notice is not conclusive. Steam Support: Banned by Game Developer (Game Ban)
- Check VAC Status. In the Steam client, open Settings > Account, then select “Click here for details” under VAC Status. The details identify the games affected by a VAC ban. Steam Support: I’ve been VAC banned
- Read the game’s exact notice. Check the message shown when launching it or trying to enter matchmaking. Connection or matchmaking errors can occur without a ban notice on the account, so an error alone does not identify the cause. Steam Support: Banned by Game Developer (Game Ban)
Identify what kind of restriction it is

Appeal through the party that issued the restriction
For a game ban
Open the game’s page in your Steam Library and select Support to find the developer’s contact route. The developer is responsible for the game-ban decision and has the game-specific data explaining it; Steam directs players to the developer for appeals. Steam Support: Banned by Game Developer (Game Ban)
For a VAC ban
Steam states that VAC bans are permanent, non-negotiable, and cannot be removed by Steam Support. If a ban is determined to have been issued incorrectly, it is removed automatically after investigation. Steam Support: I’ve been VAC banned

For a server or account restriction

A VAC ban does not prevent single-player play, local LAN play, or multiplayer on non-VAC-secured servers when the game offers those options. A developer-issued game ban cannot prevent offline play of that game or use of Steam; the developer determines the permitted online restrictions.
