The availability label beneath the price is the clearest guide: “Retired Product” means LEGO says the set is no longer in its assortment and will not receive more stock; “Sold out” and “Temporarily out of stock” do not mean retired.
Check the set’s LEGO.com product page
- Search LEGO.com using the set’s full name or number, then open the page for your country.
- Look beneath the price and note the exact availability label. LEGO says that is where the status appears.
- Check whether the page offers an order control, such as Add to Bag. Availability and wording can vary by region and change over time, so use the current page for that specific set and market.
LEGO’s Canadian help page defines the main labels as follows. Local wording or availability may differ.
| LEGO.com status | What LEGO says it means | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Available now | Currently available to order. | You can order it from LEGO at the time you check. |
| Backorders Accepted | Available to order, with shipping on the stated backorder date. | You can place an order, but it will ship later. |
| Temporarily out of stock | Not currently available to order; LEGO expects more stock. | A stock gap, not confirmation of retirement. |
| Sold out | Sold out; more stock may arrive, but the date is not confirmed. | You cannot order it now, and a restock is uncertain. |
| Retiring soon | The set will be retired very soon. | Retirement is approaching, but the set may still be orderable. |
| Retired Product | The set is no longer in LEGO’s current assortment and LEGO will not get more stock. | It has left LEGO’s assortment. |
| Coming Soon / Pre-Order | The set has not yet been released; pre-order is available for the latter status. | It is not evidence of retirement. |
Understand the difference between sold out and retired
“Sold out” is not a retirement notice
LEGO says a sold-out set may return, but it does not give a confirmed restock date. The label means you cannot order it at that moment; it does not establish that the set has been discontinued.
“Temporarily out of stock” means LEGO expects more
LEGO defines this status as a set that cannot currently be ordered but is expected to return. It is distinct from “Sold out,” where a future restock is possible but unconfirmed.

“Retired Product” is the clearest confirmation
LEGO’s help page says: “The set is no longer in our current assortment and we won’t be getting any more stock.” That describes LEGO’s own inventory and assortment; it does not mean every retailer or resale seller has run out.
Can you still buy a set marked “Retiring soon”?
Possibly. “Retiring soon” signals impending retirement, not that the set has already been withdrawn. Check the individual product page’s current order control and your regional LEGO store. LEGO’s US retiring-soon category displayed products with Add to Bag controls when checked, but that snapshot does not guarantee that a particular set is orderable in every region or later date.

What if the set does not appear on LEGO.com?
A missing page is not, by itself, proof of retirement. LEGO notes that older sets may have retired and may no longer appear, but early-access products may require an Insider login, and future sets may not appear until they are available.
- Confirm you searched the exact set name or number on your country’s LEGO.com site.
- Consider whether the set could be an early-access release or an unreleased product rather than a retired one.
- If the page or status remains unclear, contact LEGO support. LEGO’s UK help page advises that an older set may have been retired and may not appear on the website.
Where to look after LEGO retires a set
If LEGO’s page says “Retired Product,” check authorized or established retailers and resale marketplaces for remaining inventory. Those listings are separate from LEGO’s statement that it will not receive more stock, and availability depends on the specific seller and listing.
