Toggle the story-related Scent Hint
- During a story sequence, press R3 to switch the story-related Scent Hint on or off, according to Push Square’s October 6, 2026 report.
The game’s developer, Insomniac Games, described the change as a new “Hint” toggle for story-related Scent trails. The reported control is an in-sequence button press; the report does not identify a menu route or the default state.
How this differs from earlier Scent options
Push Square distinguishes the story-related Hint toggle from earlier updates that added options for collectibles and reduced Scent-trail opacity. Those were separate adjustments, not the same control. Insomniac also said players had more control over the visibility of Scents, Audio Cues, and Nightmare Roots.
Before the October 6 update, a September 12 report described Scent trails as contextual: they could appear while tracking or when a collectible was nearby, and that report said there was no full off option at the time. That describes the pre-update situation, not the current story-related toggle.
