To check a child’s recent PS5 playtime, use the PlayStation Family app: select the child, scroll to Activity, and review the seven-day graph and Most Played list. To set or change limits on the console, go to Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management, select the child, then open Playtime Settings. These are separate tools: one reports recent activity; the other manages play time. PlayStation’s documented activity report is for child family accounts, not a universal personal playtime counter.
What you can track on PS5
PlayStation documents a recent activity report for a child in your family. The PlayStation Family app shows a time-played graph covering the last seven days and a Most Played list with time by game and app. The app’s data updates when it is opened or refreshed. PlayStation Support explains the activity report and how to view it.
The report is not the same as a lifetime total for every PS5 user. PlayStation’s documented method applies to a child family member; its cited instructions do not establish an equivalent report for an adult’s own account.
View a child’s recent playtime in the PlayStation Family app
- Open the PlayStation Family app and select the child on the home screen.
- Scroll to the Activity widget.
- Read the Time Played graph for the last seven days. Check Most Played for the child’s playtime by individual games and apps.
- Open or refresh the app to update the displayed playtime data.
The app also has a Playing Now widget, which shows the game a child is playing and its age rating. PlayStation advises closing games before the child logs in to help ensure current-session information is accurate.

PlayStation describes the Family app as a free download for iOS and Android; its official US Family app page says it shows a child’s playtime hours from the past week.
Set or change playtime limits on the PS5
Use the console settings to control when a child can play and what happens when their allowed time ends. These settings do not provide the same seven-day activity report as the app.

- On the PS5, open Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management.
- Select the child. If their time zone has not been set, configure it before adjusting playtime controls.
- Open Playtime Settings, choose the desired controls, and save.
Playtime controls can set a duration and playable hours for each day, restrict whether a child may play, and determine whether the child receives a notification or is logged out when time ends. A child can request more time from a reminder on the PS5, and an authorized adult can respond. Restrictions apply across PS5 and PS4 if the child uses both. PlayStation’s PS5 parental-controls guidance also lists Change Playtime for Today and Playtime Settings as available controls for a child: PS5 parental controls and spending limits.

Who can see the activity and use the controls?
The documented reporting and controls depend on family-account roles. The player must have a separate child account in the family, and the adult managing the settings must be the family manager or an appointed parent or guardian. PlayStation says family managers, parents, and guardians can see a child’s activity through the Family app. PlayStation’s family-account guidance describes these roles.
Privacy settings separately govern who can see a user’s gaming history and current activity. That does not mean another player can automatically see everyone’s playtime; access depends on the account and the permissions PlayStation provides.
