Start there. Add session length, ratings, screenshots, or notes only when those details help you make a decision or remember an experience.
A backlog and a play history answer different questions. Your backlog is a queue of games you still intend to play; your history is a record of games you have played, including separate playthroughs when that distinction matters. You can keep both in one service, a spreadsheet, or a combination.

Decide what “tracked” means for you
Before choosing an app or building a sheet, define the decisions your record should support. Most players need to answer four questions:
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchPC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11- What do I have access to? Record the platform, storefront, subscription, disc, or other source. A game owned on several platforms can have more than one entry or ownership tag.
- What should I play next? Use a backlog status for games you intend to start, rather than mixing them with games you have merely noticed.
- What am I playing now? A separate playing status prevents an enormous backlog from hiding the few active games.
- What have I actually played? A played status is useful for a one-line history. A dated log or playthrough record is better when you want to remember when, how long, or on which platform you played.
Do not make every field mandatory. A tracker that requires a rating, review, completion percentage, or daily duration for every title becomes a chore. The smallest useful record is usually game + platform or storefront + status. Add a completion or playthrough date if you want a timeline.

Backlog and history are not opposites
A game can leave the backlog without being “finished.” You might abandon it, pause it indefinitely, or decide that watching a playthrough is enough. Use a status such as abandoned, paused, or dropped if that distinction affects your choices; otherwise keep a note explaining the decision.
Likewise, “played” does not necessarily mean “completed.” A history should describe what happened, not force every experience into a completion claim. If you replay a game years later, a separate playthrough record preserves both sessions instead of overwriting the first one.
Choose a system you will update
There is no established universal ranking of game trackers. The useful comparison is how much history you want, how you organize ownership, how easily you can import or export data, and whether community features matter to you.
| System | Best fit | Documented strengths | Important limits or unknowns |
|---|---|---|---|
| Backloggd | Players who want a detailed personal play record and a social profile | Statuses for Played, Playing, Backlog, and Wishlist; ratings; wishlist; time tracking; daily journal; platform ownership; multiple logs for a title; mobile-optimized website | Its public material does not establish a built-in export, privacy-retention terms, or long-term continuity guarantees |
| Grouvee | Players who prefer shelves, custom organization, Steam importing, and a local copy | Playing, Played, Backlog, and Wish List shelves; unlimited custom shelves; Steam library import; ratings and reviews; play timeline; CSV export | Imports run once daily and some matches need mapping; mobile availability and pricing are not established here |
| Spreadsheet | Players who want complete control over columns and storage | Custom fields, filters, formulas, and local or self-managed copies | Manual entry and maintenance; no documented automatic game-data matching in the anecdotal examples |
| Hybrid | Players who want community discovery plus an independent archive | A service for browsing and social activity, with a spreadsheet or exported file as a backup | Two places must be kept consistent |
The features in this table are descriptions from each service, not comparative performance tests. Choose the lightest option that captures the history you actually intend to maintain.
Backloggd: detailed logs and playthrough history
Backloggd is designed around a personal collection and activity record. Its documented features include games played, currently playing, wanted games, ratings, a wishlist, time tracking, a daily journal, and platform ownership. Its help material treats each log as a playthrough, and a title can have multiple logs.
Set up your statuses
- Add games you own or can access to your collection, recording the relevant platform or storefront.
- Use
Backlogfor games you intend to start,Playingfor active games, andPlayedfor titles you have already tried. KeepWishlistfor games you want but do not currently treat as available to play. - Move a title only when your intention changes. A game paused for a month can remain Playing if you expect to return; otherwise use a note or your own paused convention rather than repeatedly changing statuses.
Record a playthrough instead of overwriting history
When a title deserves more than a single Played mark, create a log for the playthrough. Use the log to identify the platform, add time if you track it, and record a start or completion date when that information is useful. A second run, a different edition, or a later replay can have its own log, preserving the distinction between experiences.

The journal calendar is intended for marking days played. Treat it as a lightweight session history: mark the day, then add a duration or note only when you will use that information later. If you played on several days but cannot reconstruct them, enter only dates you know rather than inventing precision.
Use ownership and library views
Platform ownership makes a large collection actionable. A game you own on a console, a PC storefront, and a subscription can be filtered differently from a game on your wishlist. Backloggd’s September 16, 2026 changelog documents library entry pages grouped by ownership, platform, storefront, or none, with library-specific filters and search. Use those groupings to answer practical questions such as “Which unplayed games are installed on this platform?” without changing the underlying status.
Cost and phone use
Backloggd’s official about information says account creation and current features are free, with an optional Backer status. Its help material describes the website’s mobile view as optimized for phone screens. That is not evidence of a separate native mobile app, so use the web interface on a phone unless the service documents an app separately.
Grouvee: shelves, Steam import, and a CSV copy
Grouvee organizes games into shelves named Playing, Played, Backlog, and Wish List. It also documents unlimited custom shelves, ratings and reviews, a timeline of games played, Steam library import, and CSV export.
Build a shelf structure that stays readable
- Put games you expect to start in
Backlog, active titles inPlaying, and games you have tried inPlayed. - Use custom shelves for decisions that cut across those statuses, such as “short next,” “co-op,” “unfinished,” “replay,” or a platform-specific queue.
- Keep a Wish List separate from games already in your library. That prevents purchases you are considering from inflating the count of games you can play now.
Custom shelves are most useful when each one has a clear question behind it. If you create a shelf for every mood, genre, sale, and friend recommendation, the organization itself becomes another backlog.
Import a Steam library, then verify matches
Grouvee says Steam imports run once a day. After an import, inspect the results rather than assuming every title matched correctly: its help material notes that some game matches may need mapping. Check editions, bundles, remasters, and similarly named games before relying on counts or shelves.

An import is a starting point, not a complete play history. It can identify games in a library, but it cannot supply dates for sessions you recorded elsewhere or explain whether an installed game was completed. Add those details manually if they matter to you.
Export a local copy
Grouvee documents CSV export. Download a copy on a schedule that matches how much your list changes, then open it to confirm that the columns you care about are present. Keep the original exported file unchanged and make edits in a separate working copy if you plan to analyze it. The service describes the export as a way to keep a local copy; it does not establish a complete backup of every possible journal or account feature, so verify the columns before treating it as an archive.
A spreadsheet that remains useful
Community members report using spreadsheets for backlog and history tracking. This is an anecdotal alternative, not evidence that a spreadsheet is more convenient than a service. Its advantage is control: you decide every column and where the file is stored.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse one row per game, or one row per playthrough
For a simple backlog, use one row per game with columns such as:
- Game title
- Platform or storefront
- Ownership or access source
- Status: Backlog, Playing, Played, Wishlist, Paused, or Abandoned
- Started date and completion date, if known
- Rating, review link, or personal note, if useful
If you need daily sessions or replays, separate the data into two sheets. The first has one row per game; the second has one row per playthrough or session with game, date, platform, minutes, and note. A game can then have several history rows without duplicating its backlog metadata.
Make filters answer real questions
Create saved filters for “unplayed and owned,” “currently playing,” “completed this year,” and “needs a platform decision.” Avoid a dashboard that displays numbers you never act on. A count is useful only if it changes what you play, buy, install, or archive.

Store dates in a consistent format and keep platform names standardized. Decide whether “PC,” a specific storefront, and a subscription are separate values before entering hundreds of rows. If you later import a service export, map its status names to yours instead of silently mixing synonyms.

A status tells you where a game stands; a session log tells you what happened on a particular day. Add session tracking when you want to estimate time, remember a specific event, or compare how often you return to a game.
- Start a session record. Enter the game, platform, and date. If you use a journal calendar, mark the day as soon as you finish.
- Record duration at a useful precision. Minutes are appropriate when you use a timer; “short,” “normal,” or “long” is enough when exact time would make logging annoying.
- Add one memorable note. A boss defeated, a chapter reached, or a reason for stopping is more durable than a generic paragraph.
- Close the session. Update the game status only if the session changed it. Do not rewrite your whole backlog after every play period.
Some community members report using a timer or stopwatch when their platform does not provide a daily duration. That is a personal method, not a requirement. If timing interrupts play, omit it and keep the date and note.
Maintenance routines that prevent backlog drift
Daily or after each session
- Mark the day played or add a session row.
- Move a title from Backlog to Playing when you actually start it.
- Capture a short note while the event is fresh.
Weekly
- Review the Playing list and pause or abandon games you no longer expect to continue.
- Choose a small next-up queue from the full backlog; the queue is a decision aid, not a second permanent status.
- Correct duplicate entries, wrong platforms, and import mismatches.
Monthly or after a large purchase
- Separate newly acquired games from titles you genuinely intend to play.
- Remove access you no longer have, such as an expired subscription, or mark it clearly.
- Export a CSV when your service supports it, or duplicate your spreadsheet file.
Do not use completion percentage as a substitute for a status unless you can define it consistently. A game at 40 percent can be active, abandoned, or finished according to different games’ structures.

Replays
Keep one game identity and add a new playthrough or history row for each replay when your system supports it. Record the year and platform so a later run does not erase the first.

Remasters, ports, and editions
Decide whether your collection treats them as one game or separate entries. Use separate entries when platform ownership, save files, achievements, or time tracking differ; use one entry with platform fields when you care only about the underlying title. Apply the same rule across the library.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Games you started but will not finish
Keep them in Played if you want an honest record that you tried them, and add Abandoned or Paused if your system supports it. Do not leave them in Backlog merely because they are unfinished; that makes the queue describe obligation rather than intention.
Subscription and borrowed access
Record the access source separately from ownership. A game available through a subscription can belong in your playable collection while the subscription is active, but it should not be counted as permanently owned.
Privacy, continuity, and export questions to check
Feature pages document what Backloggd and Grouvee can record, but the material available here does not establish comparable privacy, data-retention, or long-term service-continuity terms. If those factors determine your choice, read each service’s current account and privacy documentation before entering a detailed diary.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Grouvee explicitly documents CSV export. A comparable built-in export for Backloggd is not established in the available official material. Keep independent notes for irreplaceable memories, and periodically save any data a service makes available. A spreadsheet gives you direct control over the file but also makes you responsible for backups and access security.
Which approach should you choose?
| If your priority is… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Detailed dates, sessions, and separate replays | Backloggd | Its logs represent playthroughs, with a journal calendar, time tracking, and multiple logs for a title. |
| Shelves, custom categories, and Steam library setup | Grouvee | It documents standard shelves, unlimited custom shelves, and a daily Steam import. |
| An independent file with unusual fields | Spreadsheet | You control the schema, filters, formulas, and storage. |
| Community discovery plus a personal archive | Hybrid | Use a service for social and collection features, then retain a spreadsheet or documented export. |
| The least maintenance possible | Minimal status list | Track only game, platform or storefront, and Backlog/Playing/Played; add dates only for meaningful milestones. |
The best tracker is the one you can update in seconds and still understand six months later. Begin with the four core fields, run that system for a few weeks, and add a field only when a real question remains unanswered. That approach keeps your backlog honest and your play history useful without turning game time into data-entry time.
