For a horse, secondary gameplay guidance describes a directional taming minigame. For special mounts, Pearl Abyss’s version 1.06.00 notes say certain animals can be registered after gaining trust: subdue and feed ferocious animals, but expect some species to require a unique method. Feeding an animal that cannot be tamed will not raise its trust.
How to tame a horse
All Things How describes horse taming as an active directional minigame. Approach a wild horse until the interaction prompt appears, mount it, then counter the direction it pulls until the progress circle fills. This control description comes from a secondary guide; the official patch notes cited here do not document the horse minigame.
- Approach a wild horse and use the interaction prompt to mount it.
- Watch the direction the horse pulls and press the opposite direction.
- Keep countering its movement until the progress circle fills. Slow or incorrect inputs may result in being thrown off, according to the guide.

How to gain trust with special-mount animals
Pearl Abyss added the special-mount system in version 1.06.00, dated May 11, 2026. Its notes say, “Certain animals can now be registered as special mounts after gaining their trust.” They describe the general approach for ferocious animals as subduing and feeding them, but add that some species require unique methods. The patch does not provide one universal sequence for every listed animal.

The eligible animals named in those notes are:
- Bears
- Boars
- Wolves
- Deer
- Mountain goats
- Kuku Birds
- Iguanas
- Raptors
- Camels
- Lions
- Tigers
Pearl Abyss also warns: “Feeding untamable animals will not affect their trust level.” Feeding alone therefore is not a reliable test of whether an animal can become a mount. The official notes do not spell out the unique taming method for each species.
Register and equip special mounts
Version 1.06.00 added a Special Mounts tab to the inventory. The patch says equipment can be used in that tab and that a quickslot can hold one mount and one special mount. A special mount is therefore handled separately from the ordinary mount slot.

Where to buy special-mount saddles
Pearl Abyss lists saddles at these regional saddleries. The patch’s eligible-animal list and saddle list use some different species names, so the names below are kept as the patch states them.

Mounts are not pets
Special mounts and pet dogs are separate systems. The version 1.06.00 notes say the Sigil of Valor, sold by the Secret Shop NPC in Pororin, makes pet dogs attack enemies when equipped. It is a pet-combat item, not an animal-taming method.
Earlier, Pearl Abyss’s version 1.01.00 notes named five mounts available after completing conditions: White Bear, Silver Fang, Snowwhite Deer, Rock Tusk Warthog, and Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex. That list predates the special-mount feature described in version 1.06.00; it should not be treated as a complete list of animals eligible under the newer system.
