To keep your Call of Duty progress on Nintendo Switch 2, link the Nintendo Account used on the console to the same Activision account that already contains your progress. Call of Duty cross-progression is stored on the Activision account, not on the old console’s platform account. You do not copy a Call of Duty save file from another console, and creating a new Activision account will not move or merge your levels, unlocks, statistics, or eligible content.
The process is: sign in to the established Activision account in a browser, open Linked Accounts, choose Link Account beside Nintendo, verify your email, authorize the Nintendo sign-in, then launch a supported Call of Duty title on Switch 2. If progress appears missing, the most likely cause is that the Nintendo Account is linked to a different Activision account.

What actually moves to Switch 2
There are two different account systems involved:
- Activision account: This is the identity that stores cross-progression for supported Call of Duty games. Depending on the title, that can include online rank, level, challenge progress, statistics, operator or weapon unlocks, and other content attached to the Activision profile.
- Nintendo Account: This identifies the Switch 2 user and authorizes that user to play the Nintendo version of a game.
Activision’s stated rule is: “Games with cross-progression store game progress on your Activision account, not your platform account.” The important handoff is therefore the account link, not a console-to-console save copy. When the correct Activision account is linked to the Nintendo Account, the supported game can retrieve the progress associated with that Activision identity.
Linking the Nintendo Account to another Activision account does not combine the two profiles. It can make a previously established profile look empty because the game is reading the newly linked account. Activision says the progress and content are not lost; relinking the platform account to the original Activision account restores access where the account-linking rules allow it.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The game itself must also be supported on Switch 2, and you must own the applicable Nintendo Switch 2 edition. Activision’s and Nintendo’s account-linking rules do not turn an unsupported title into a Switch 2 title, nor do they provide a game license that you do not own.
Before you start: the requirements
- The original Activision account: You need the email address and password for the Activision account that currently shows your Call of Duty progress. If you use several email addresses, identify the account from your existing console or the Activision account settings before linking anything.
- The Nintendo Account used by the Switch 2 player: Sign in with the Nintendo Account attached to the Switch 2 user profile that will launch the game. A different Nintendo Account creates a different platform identity.
- Email access: Activision requires an email verification code during the linking flow. Make sure you can receive that code before starting.
- A supported Call of Duty title and edition: The Switch 2 must have the Nintendo release of the title you intend to play. As of October 18, 2026, the official product listing names Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for Nintendo Switch 2, with Standard and Vault editions, and lists an October 23, 2026 launch date. Individual entitlement and progression behavior can vary by title, so check the current support information for the specific game.
- A stable connection: Account authorization and the first profile synchronization require an internet connection. Keep the game closed while correcting an account link so it does not repeatedly initialize the wrong identity.
Do not use account-selling services, “progress transfer” software, or a newly created Activision profile as a workaround. The official workflow is linking the existing Activision identity.
Step-by-step: link your Call of Duty account to Switch 2
-
Identify the Activision account with your existing progress
On a phone or computer, sign in to the Activision account you used for Call of Duty on your previous platform. Confirm that it is the profile associated with your existing game history. If you have more than one Activision account, stop and resolve that identity question before proceeding; linking the wrong one is the main reason progress appears to disappear.

Open Linked Accounts
In the Activision account settings, open Linked Accounts. This page lists the platform identities currently connected to the Activision profile. Find the Nintendo entry and select Link Account.
-
Complete Activision email verification
Activision sends a verification code to the email address on the account. Enter the current code in the verification prompt. If it does not arrive, check the address shown in your account settings, your spam or filtered folders, and whether a previous code has expired. Requesting a fresh code is safer than guessing, because the code must match the active verification request.

Authorize the Nintendo Account
When the Nintendo sign-in page opens, use the Nintendo Account attached to the Switch 2 user profile. Review the authorization prompt and approve the connection. Signing in with a family member’s or another player’s Nintendo Account links that identity instead, even if the Switch 2 hardware is the same.
-
Launch the supported game on Switch 2
Start the supported Call of Duty title on the Switch 2 user profile that owns or can access the Nintendo edition. Let the game complete its account sign-in and synchronization. Use the linked identity rather than creating a new Activision account from an in-game prompt.

Check the profile before changing anything
Open the profile, progression, and content screens and confirm that the expected identity is present. Do not spend currency, create a replacement profile, or begin a large download while you are still diagnosing an account mismatch. Those actions do not repair a wrong link and can make it harder to tell which profile is active.
What transfers, what does not, and what remains title-specific
The account link determines which Activision-stored profile the game can access. It does not promise that every item from every Call of Duty release is available in every Switch 2 title. Activision’s general rule is documented, but a complete title-by-title matrix for every game, currency, purchase, and unlock at Switch 2 launch is not published in the supplied official material. Treat the following distinctions as the safe way to interpret the transfer.
| Data or entitlement | How it is handled | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Online Call of Duty progression | Stored on the Activision account for games with cross-progression. It becomes available when the correct Activision account is linked. | Confirm that the Switch 2 game supports cross-progression and that you linked the original profile. |
| Levels, challenges, statistics, and eligible unlocks | Read from the linked Activision profile when supported by the title. | Some features can be title- or version-specific; use the current support information for that game. |
| Content attached to the original Activision account | Activision says progress and content are not lost when a platform is connected to the wrong account; access is restored by relinking the original account where permitted. | Do not assume that every item is usable in every release or edition. |
| Purchases and platform licenses | Owning a Nintendo Switch 2 edition is a separate requirement from having an Activision profile. | Check that you own the supported Switch 2 edition, such as the listed Standard or Vault edition of Modern Warfare 4. |
| Nintendo console save data | Handled by Nintendo’s save-data transfer or cloud-save systems, not by Activision account linking. | Use the same Nintendo Account on both consoles and meet Nintendo’s transfer or membership requirements. |
| A second Activision account’s progress | Not merged or copied into the original profile by linking Nintendo. | Choose one established Activision account; relinking does not create a combined history. |
Activision linking versus Nintendo save-data transfer
These are separate operations that solve different problems. If your question is “Will my COD progress carry over?”, start with Activision account linking. If your question is “Can I move a local Switch save from my old Nintendo console?”, use Nintendo’s save-data tools as a separate step.

When Activision linking is the relevant fix
Use the Activision workflow when your online Call of Duty profile, rank, unlocks, or other cross-progression appears on another platform. The deciding factor is the Activision account that owns the progress. Moving a Nintendo save file cannot change which Activision account the game authenticates.

Nintendo says nearby-console save-data transfer requires the same Nintendo Account to be linked to a user on both consoles. Nintendo also states that cloud-backed save data can be available on the second Switch 2 when the Nintendo Switch Online membership remains active. Those conditions concern Nintendo save data and membership status; they do not replace the Activision link.
Why doing one does not substitute for the other
A Nintendo save may contain local settings or game data, while the Activision account holds the online identity used for cross-progression. You can complete a Nintendo console transfer correctly and still see an empty Call of Duty profile if the Switch 2 Nintendo Account is connected to the wrong Activision account. Conversely, linking the correct Activision account does not move unrelated local save data from one Nintendo console to another.
If your progress is missing after linking
Do not immediately create another Activision account. Work through the identity checks in this order.
-
Stop using the newly initialized profile
Close the game and avoid making purchases or changes on the profile that appears empty. An empty profile usually indicates an account mismatch, not that the original progress has been erased.

Check which Activision account is connected
In a browser, inspect Linked Accounts for the Activision account you expected to use. Then determine whether the Nintendo Account is connected to a different Activision account. Signing into an alternate Activision email is often the explanation when the Nintendo link appears valid but the progression is absent.
-
Relink the original account where permitted
If the Nintendo identity is attached to the wrong Activision account, follow the account settings flow to unlink it and then link it to the original account. Activision says platform unlink requests can be limited to once every 12 months and may be denied for security reasons. Do not repeatedly submit requests or assume that a second attempt will bypass the policy.
-
Use official support if the account cannot be corrected
If the unlink option is unavailable, the request is denied, or you cannot establish which account owns the progress, use Activision’s official account-support process. Include the account details requested by support and explain that the Nintendo identity is attached to the wrong Activision profile. Do not send credentials to an unaffiliated transfer service.
-
Reopen the game only after the link is correct
Once the account page shows the intended Nintendo and Activision connection, relaunch the supported title and allow synchronization to finish. The game should then read the progression associated with the original Activision account.

Common situations and the correct response
| What you see | Likely explanation | Best next action |
|---|---|---|
| The game starts at level one on Switch 2. | The Nintendo Account is linked to a new or different Activision account. | Stop creating profiles, inspect Linked Accounts, and relink the original Activision account if allowed. |
| You transferred a Nintendo save but COD progress is still absent. | Save-data transfer and Activision progression are separate systems. | Check the Activision-Nintendo link; do not repeat the console transfer as a substitute. |
| The correct email is used, but the game still shows no history. | The game may be using another sign-in session, or the title may not support the expected progression. | Sign out only through the game’s supported account controls, verify the linked account in a browser, and check the title-specific support information. |
| You cannot unlink the Nintendo account. | Activision’s 12-month limit or a security review may apply. | Do not keep retrying; use official Activision support and wait for the account decision. |
| You own the game on another platform but not the Switch 2 edition. | An Activision profile does not itself provide a Nintendo game license. | Confirm ownership of the supported Switch 2 edition before troubleshooting progression. |
Switch 2 title and launch context
The official Call of Duty product listing identifies Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for Nintendo Switch 2, with Standard and Vault editions and an October 23, 2026 launch date. Activision’s announcement describes a native Switch 2 version developed by Infinity Ward with Digital Legends. This product information establishes the target platform and editions, but it is not a blanket promise that every previous Call of Duty game, mode, currency, or entitlement will run on Switch 2.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.

For Warzone or another Modern Warfare release, apply the same identity rule only after confirming that the particular title supports the Switch 2 version and cross-progression. Support can change with major game updates, so a current title-specific support page is the authority for an entitlement question that the general account rule does not answer.
A pre-launch checklist
- Write down the email address of the Activision account that has the existing progression.
- Sign into that account in a browser before touching the Switch 2 game.
- Open Linked Accounts and identify any Nintendo connection already present.
- Have access to the Activision verification email.
- Sign into the Nintendo Account assigned to the intended Switch 2 player profile.
- Confirm that the supported Call of Duty Nintendo edition is installed or purchased.
- Keep Nintendo save-data transfer separate from Activision account linking.
- After linking, verify the profile before creating a new account or spending any in-game resources.
- Remember that Activision platform unlink requests can be restricted to once every 12 months and can be refused for security reasons.
What to remember
Your Call of Duty account is not transferred by copying a Nintendo save. The reliable path is to connect the Nintendo Account on Switch 2 to the existing Activision account that owns your progression, then launch a supported Switch 2 title with the correct game license. A wrong-account link makes progress look absent but does not, according to Activision, erase the progress or content; correcting the link is the recovery path, subject to Activision’s unlink limits and security review.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to transfer save data from my old console to keep Call of Duty progress?
Not for Activision-stored cross-progression. Link the Switch 2 Nintendo Account to the existing Activision account. Nintendo save-data transfer is a separate process for Nintendo console save data.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Can I merge two Activision accounts if I used the wrong one on Switch 2?
No merging is established by the account-linking process. Unlink the Nintendo identity and connect it to the original Activision account if Activision permits the request.
What if Activision will not let me unlink the wrong Nintendo Account?
Platform unlink requests can be limited to once every 12 months and may be denied for security reasons. Use official Activision support rather than creating more accounts or using a transfer service.
Does owning the game on another platform give me the Switch 2 version?
No. You still need the supported Nintendo Switch 2 edition. The Activision account link identifies your progression; it does not replace the Nintendo game license.
Will every Warzone or Modern Warfare item appear on Switch 2?
Do not assume that. Activision documents the general cross-progression rule, but item, currency, purchase, and unlock availability can be title- and edition-specific. Check the current support information for the exact Switch 2 title.
