There is no zombie-apocalypse trigger documented in EA’s guides to death and ghosts in The Sims 4. To start an outbreak, use Sacrificial Mods’ third-party Zombie Apocalypse mod. Its creator lists three ways to begin: a police emergency broadcast, an infect-all district command, or a zombification virus.
How to start an outbreak
The mod creator documents these activation routes. Choose one based on whether you want to start a social event, affect Sims across the current district, or infect an individual Sim.

The mod also adds a Zombie Apocalypse pie menu and a menu for survival items. According to its creator, infected Sims can become playable zombies.
What you need
The creator says the Zombie Apocalypse mod requires only the base game. This is modded gameplay, not a native apocalypse feature described in EA’s death and ghost guides.

- Customize your Sims’ looks and their home with new family fashion and build items. Give the kids’ bedrooms extra personality, remodel the kitchen to feel homier, and let your Sims express their sporty or artistic sides with new outfits.
Check compatibility and support before installing
EA says it does not pre-screen, endorse, or support specific mods: “Maxis and EA don’t pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content.” EA also warns that mods can cause problems after game updates and recommends checking with the mod creator for post-patch compatibility. Read EA’s official guidance on mods and game updates.
On October 8, 2026, the creator’s downloads page listed Zombie Apocalypse v2.3.1, with a last-update date of September 7, 2025, and an updated/compatible status displaying a September 22, 2026 compatibility notice. These details can change; check the creator’s downloads page for the current version and compatibility notice before installing or updating.
