The time is cumulative, so you do not need to finish it in one session. Switch to first person, play normally, and check the in-game counter as you go.
How to switch to first person
Rockstar lists first-person camera support on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S. Use the default camera control for your platform:
- PC: press V.
- PlayStation 4 or 5: press the touchpad.
- Xbox One or Series X|S: press Select.
These controls and supported platforms are documented in Rockstar Support’s camera-view instructions. Press the control until the game is in first person, then continue playing with that view active.
What counts toward the 15 hours?
The achievement description reproduced by the GTA Wiki reads: “You played GTA V in first person mode for 15 hours.” A PlayStation trophy guide says time on foot and in vehicles counts, and describes the requirement as cumulative rather than a single uninterrupted session.

That guide also says progress can accumulate across Story Mode protagonists and GTA Online characters on enhanced versions. Reports about whether Story Mode and Online counters always combine conflict, however, so do not assume your progress carries between modes or saves. Use the counter in your own version to confirm what is being recorded.
How to check your first-person time
A PlayStation trophy guide gives this route: Pause > Stats > General/Career > Time played in first person. Menu labels can vary by game version, so look in the stats area for the first-person playtime entry if the wording differs. Checking the counter periodically is the practical way to confirm that your time is registering.

Does this require a special activity or item?
No special mission, accessory, tool, or paid in-game item is established as necessary. You can work toward the total during ordinary gameplay by leaving the camera in first person. Combining the time with story or online play is a convenient approach, but the available sources do not establish a faster method or guarantee that progress will carry between modes.

A New Perspective is the 15-hour first-person achievement. GTA Online also has a separate first-person Heist award. Rockstar says the Heist Leader must lock the lobby to first person for that award; the rule concerns the Heist challenge, not the 15-hour achievement. Rockstar’s older update notes also describe an award for completing all Heists in first-person view on PS4 and Xbox One.
