If a PC game stops launching after a DRM-related change, first identify what changed: the game installation, storefront or publisher launcher, account sign-in, or online authorization. Then check the relevant service and account, verify the game files through the launcher that manages the installation, and test reversible software conflicts. These checks can help isolate the problem, but no single fix applies to every game or DRM change.
1. Pin down what changed and what is failing
A DRM change can coincide with a change to game files, a storefront client, a publisher launcher, sign-in requirements, or the way a game authorizes online. Those are different failure points: repairing local files will not fix a service outage or an account that is not signed in.
Before changing settings, note the game title, storefront, any separate publisher launcher, exact error text, operating system version, when the game last worked, and what changed immediately before it stopped launching. Check whether other games in the same launcher still start. If several titles fail, that points toward a client, account, or service issue rather than a fault isolated to one game’s files.
2. Check services, launcher updates, and the correct account
Check the storefront or publisher’s service status and whether its launcher has an update available before reinstalling the game. Epic includes service status and launcher updates in its launcher troubleshooting guidance; EA likewise advises checking server status and connection issues in its game troubleshooting steps. If a relevant service is down, wait for it to recover rather than repeatedly reinstalling files.

Confirm that the launcher is signed into the account that owns the game and that the game appears in that account’s library. Also check whether the title still requires a publisher launcher or an internet connection for authorization. Requirements vary by game; a storefront’s offline mode does not override a game’s separate launcher or active-connection requirement. Steam specifically says that games requiring an active connection or an external launcher will not work in Steam Offline Mode.
3. Verify or repair files in the launcher that owns the installation
Use the built-in repair option in the client that manages the installed copy. If you own a game in one store but launch it through a publisher client, do not assume that another launcher is the right place to verify it.

- Open Library.
- Select the game’s three-dot menu, then choose Manage.
- Select Verify and let the check complete.
Epic says verification repairs files that differ from the expected version and does not affect saved data. See its file verification instructions.
EA app
Open the game’s tile menu (three dots) and select Repair. EA lists this alongside its other game troubleshooting steps.

Steam
Run Verify Integrity of Game Files for the game in Steam, following Steam’s verification guidance.
Ubisoft Connect
For a game installed through Ubisoft Connect, use Ubisoft Connect’s verification option. For a Steam or Epic copy, Ubisoft directs players to verify through the launcher where that copy is installed. Its verification guidance distinguishes these cases.

4. Test reversible software conflicts
For an EA game, temporarily disable the EA in-game overlay and try launching again. EA notes that “The in-game overlay setting can sometimes make your game crash.” If that does not help, close nonessential background applications and check for operating-system and graphics-driver updates, as EA recommends in its troubleshooting guidance. Change one thing at a time, record what you changed, and restore settings that do not affect the launch problem.

If service, account, file, and reversible conflict checks do not resolve the issue, contact the game’s official support team. Steam’s launch troubleshooting guidance directs players to the game’s support team when its general steps do not help.

Include the game and storefront, publisher launcher if applicable, exact error text, operating system version, when the game last launched successfully, and the recent DRM or launcher change. Say whether other games in the same client launch. Avoid downloading replacement executables from unofficial sites or following instructions that claim to bypass DRM; neither is a safe substitute for diagnosing the supported installation or authorization path.
