Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteDo you mean AMD Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), or Sony’s QSSR? AMD documents RSR as its driver-level upscaler for Windows PC games; the available documentation does not establish QSSR as an AMD Radeon PC feature. If you meant AMD’s feature, use the checks below. If you meant Sony’s QSSR, these RSR steps do not apply. AMD’s RSR setup FAQ documents the Radeon feature; QSSR is associated with PlayStation in a PlayStation support search result, but that alone does not verify its identity or compatibility requirements.
First, confirm the feature and your system are eligible
AMD calls its PC feature Radeon Super Resolution (RSR). It is an upscaler in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, not a separate game installation. AMD’s setup FAQ, updated June 25, 2025, lists Windows 10 or 11 desktop systems, discrete Radeon RX 5000 Series graphics or later, or select AMD Advantage systems, and a full installation of Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 or later. See AMD’s RSR setup FAQ.
AMD’s separate RSR feature page still lists Adrenalin 22.3.1 as the minimum. The two AMD pages therefore disagree on the minimum driver version. For setup, use the newer FAQ’s 22.7.1 guidance rather than assuming the older feature-page figure is current. If a particular GPU or system is not explicitly covered, check the support information for its exact driver package.
Check the driver package against the GPU and Windows version
Before reinstalling, identify the exact Radeon GPU and Windows version, then verify that the Adrenalin package supports both. As one version-specific example, AMD’s Adrenalin 25.9.1 release notes list supported RX 9000, RX 7000, RX 6000 and RX 5000 families and Windows 10 64-bit version 19044 or later, or Windows 11 version 21H2 or later, subject to product-specific variation. That example is not a claim that 25.9.1 is the newest available driver.

The same 25.9.1 notes say installation requires Administrator rights and exclude Apple Boot Camp. For laptops and all-in-one PCs, AMD recommends the computer maker’s OEM driver when its downloaded package causes support or compatibility problems. This is guidance in those particular release notes; check the notes for the package you are installing rather than treating it as universal advice.
Enable RSR in AMD Software
- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and search for Graphics.
- Open Graphics Settings and enable Radeon Super Resolution under Global Graphics. For one game only, open that game’s application profile in AMD Software and configure RSR there.
- Expect the screen to go blank briefly when RSR is enabled: AMD says this setting also enables GPU Scaling under Global Display.
AMD’s illustrated steps use Adrenalin 25.6.1 Full Install on an RX 9070, and AMD cautions that settings can vary by system. If the labels differ in your installation, use the software’s search rather than assuming the option is absent. Full-install eligibility matters: the setup FAQ specifies a full Adrenalin installation.

Make sure the game is rendering below your monitor’s native resolution
RSR remains inactive when the game is already rendering at the monitor’s native resolution. In the game’s video or display settings, choose a resolution lower than the display’s native resolution; the GPU can then upscale the image. This is a common reason the toggle appears enabled but produces no visible change.
The required display mode is full-screen. AMD’s setup FAQ says RSR works in exclusive full-screen or borderless full-screen games, while its feature page specifies exclusive full-screen. Because AMD’s pages differ in how broadly they describe supported modes, try exclusive full-screen first if RSR does not activate in borderless mode, and check the current driver guidance for your setup.

Avoid stacking RSR with other upscaling or graphics features
Use a game’s FSR option instead of RSR when available
If the game offers AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), AMD recommends the in-game implementation because it can be optimized for that title. Keep RSR off for that game when using FSR: applying both can duplicate upscaling work and reduce image quality. AMD describes this recommendation in its setup FAQ and feature page.
Account for features RSR disables
AMD says RSR automatically disables Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening and Integer Scaling while RSR is enabled. If one of those settings appears unavailable, check whether RSR is on before treating it as a driver fault.
If installation or activation still fails
- RSR is missing: Recheck the GPU generation, Windows edition, and whether you installed the full Adrenalin package. The current setup FAQ’s stated minimum is 22.7.1, despite the older minimum still shown on AMD’s feature page.
- The game looks unchanged: Confirm the game is using a resolution below the monitor’s native resolution and a supported full-screen mode. If borderless mode does not work, test exclusive full-screen.
- The setting is unavailable after enabling RSR: Check Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening and Integer Scaling, which AMD says RSR disables automatically. Also turn off in-game FSR if you intend to use RSR.
- The driver installer fails or the display behaves unexpectedly: Verify the package supports your exact GPU and Windows version, and run it with Administrator rights when required. Laptop and all-in-one owners should consult their computer maker’s driver option if the AMD package causes compatibility trouble; check the release notes for the specific version.
RSR feature instructions and compatibility details can change between driver releases. For a persistent issue, consult the release notes for the installed package and AMD’s current setup FAQ instead of assuming another Adrenalin version has identical behavior.
