If a Razer macro stops working in World of Warcraft, first restart the game and computer, then check the chain in order: the macro exists in Synapse, it is assigned to the intended button, that button produces the expected input outside WoW, and WoW has a working binding for it. This sequence helps locate the failure; there is no single confirmed fix for every device, operating system, Synapse version, and WoW client.
Start with a restart
Blizzard’s general World of Warcraft technical troubleshooting guidance recommends restarting before moving on to other steps. It is general advice, not a Razer-specific repair: Blizzard’s WoW technical troubleshooting page.
Check whether Synapse still has the macro and assignment
Creating a macro and assigning it to a physical button are separate steps. Razer’s Synapse 4 instructions say to create the macro, then select the device and programmable button, choose the macro and playback option, and save the configuration.
Confirm the macro exists
- Open Razer Synapse and select the relevant device.
- Go to Macro > New Macro, give it a recognizable name, and record a harmless key if you need a simple test. Razer’s creation guide is for Synapse 4: How to create macros on Razer Synapse 4.
Assign it to the intended button
- Open the device’s customization page and select the programmable key or button you actually press.
- Choose the macro and the desired playback behavior, then save. Follow Razer’s guide for the device and Synapse version: How to assign macros on Razer Synapse-enabled products.
Some keys, including Windows and Fn on supported keyboards, cannot be remapped or assigned macros. If the intended control is not programmable, choose a supported button instead.

Find the first point where the input fails
Test one simple key at a time. These checks are diagnostic: they narrow down whether the failure appears in Synapse, the device, or WoW; they are not a guaranteed repair.
- The button does not produce the expected input outside WoW: Recheck the selected device, button assignment, saved profile, and macro playback setting in Synapse. If available, test the same button in another application that can receive the key.
- The input works outside WoW but not in WoW: Check the game’s keybinding and any conflicting modifier assignment. Try binding the basic key directly in WoW before troubleshooting a longer sequence.
- The key reaches WoW, but the ability or in-game macro does not run: Check that the binding points to the expected action-bar slot, that the action is available, and that the in-game macro uses valid behavior. Do not assume a peripheral macro can make WoW perform actions the game does not permit.
- The issue began after a software or profile change: Note which change occurred and check that the profile currently applied to the device is the one you edited. Avoid changing several settings at once; retest after each change.
Check WoW bindings and macro limits
A working hardware input can still fail to trigger the intended game action if WoW’s keybindings conflict or the in-game macro asks for behavior the macro system does not allow. A community guide discusses modifier conflicts and macro limits, but it is not current official documentation: WoW forum guide to macro basics. Treat its specific examples as contextual guidance and verify behavior in your current client.

- LOW-PROFILE KEYS — With slimmer keycaps and shorter switches, enjoy natural hand positioning that allows for long hours of use with little strain
- MECHA-MEMBRANE SWITCHES — Fusing the snappy, clicky feedback of a mechanical switch with the familiar feel of a conventional keyboard, each keystroke is as satisfying as it is precise
- UV-COATED KEYCAPS — More durable than regular keycaps, the UV coating ensures more fade-resistant legends and greater protection against wear and tear from frequent use
- BACKLIT DEDICATED MEDIA KEYS — Configure them to pause, play, skip and adjust everything from brightness to volume for ultimate convenience
- MAGNETIC SOFT TOUCH WRIST REST — Designed to seamlessly snap to the keyboard, the soft-touch wrist rest provides ample comfort and support for the wrists that is vital during long periods of use
Keep troubleshooting to an intentional action on one WoW client. Blizzard’s policy says third-party input broadcasting that mirrors inputs to multiple WoW clients is actionable; that specific rule concerns broadcasting to multiple clients, and does not establish that every single-client button assignment is prohibited. See Blizzard’s input-broadcasting policy update.
Account for your Synapse version
Razer says Synapse 3 stopped receiving updates and cloud services on February 3, 2026. Existing installed devices remain configurable, while Razer recommends migrating profiles to Synapse 4 if a device is uninstalled and later needs customization. That status does not by itself prove Synapse 3 caused a macro failure. Check the exact device’s compatibility and whether the problem began after an update, reinstall, or migration before changing versions. Details: Razer’s Synapse 3 status notice.
