Squadron 42 is not currently available to download, so there is no Squadron 42 installation or launch build to repair. Roberts Space Industries (RSI) says that accounts with a pledge containing Squadron 42 will be able to download it after development is complete, the game has been tested, and it has been released. If you are seeing a problem with the RSI Launcher or Star Citizen, use the steps below for those products; their current instructions do not mean Squadron 42 is downloadable.
RSI: Where can I download Squadron 42? (updated February 4, 2026)

First, identify what you are trying to install
RSI’s current support guidance says Squadron 42 is in development and unavailable for download. A launcher message, missing game entry, or Star Citizen installation problem is not evidence that a Squadron 42 build is ready. Do not try to repair a supposed Squadron 42 installation using Star Citizen files or folders.
If your issue is with Star Citizen, sign in to your RSI account and check My Hangar, filtering for Game Packages, to confirm the account has an applicable package. RSI notes that packages generally include Star Citizen and a ship; the Squadron 42 standalone pledge is the exception. Get the launcher from RSI’s official account website rather than an unofficial download source. An error by itself does not establish that your account has a game entitlement.

Fix common RSI Launcher or Star Citizen problems
“You do not have permission to sign in”
RSI says this message can occur when the installed launcher is outdated or otherwise improper. Uninstall that launcher, then download and install the current version from the official RSI website. This addresses a launcher-version issue; it does not create an entitlement for an account that lacks one.

The launcher is stuck, behaves unexpectedly, or seems to be running twice
- In the launcher, open Settings and use Clear Launcher Cache.
- Check the Windows system tray and Task Manager for duplicate launcher processes. Closing the launcher window may minimize it to the tray rather than exit it, so make sure another instance is not still running.
The game is missing or the install fails because of its location or size
Check the configured install location in launcher settings and confirm it is the same location where the game is installed. RSI says a mismatch can make the launcher treat an existing game as not installed. Also check that the selected drive has enough free space: RSI says the launcher does not currently check whether the chosen drive has sufficient capacity.
RSI’s December 17, 2025 requirements guidance lists a 150+ GB SSD and 16GB+ RAM for Star Citizen. Its launcher troubleshooting guidance recommends at least 100 GB for the launcher and Star Citizen, an SSD, and NTFS formatting; the requirements article separately recommends 10 GB of additional SSD space for the pagefile. These are RSI-published requirements and recommendations, not independent performance benchmarks, and RSI may revise them. An SSD can address a storage requirement, but it will not resolve account, network, launcher-version, or software-conflict problems by itself.

RSI: Game and Launcher Requirements (published December 17, 2025)
A download, update, or launch error suggests damaged files
- Open the RSI Launcher and select Settings, then Games.
- Select the affected environment and confirm its install location.
- Select Verify and allow the process to finish. RSI says verification can repair corrupted or broken files. Avoid running other resource-intensive applications while it works.

A manifest or connection error appears
For error 4000, RSI’s troubleshooting guidance calls out outbound TCP ports 8000–8020 and UDP ports 64090–64110, and recommends allowing RSI Launcher.exe and StarCitizen.exe through firewall and antivirus software. Change network or security settings only if you can do so safely and understand your system’s controls; these are diagnostic steps, not guaranteed fixes. For a session-expired error, RSI also identifies network problems, VPN settings, and connection-monitoring or protection software as possible causes.

Windows prerequisites or conflicting software may be involved
RSI recommends fully installing Windows updates and, where applicable to the Windows edition, installing the Media Feature Pack. Its troubleshooting guidance also lists .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.5.2. RSI has reported a conflict involving Sonic Studio 3 / Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer; that report does not mean the software is the cause of every crash or launcher issue.

If the steps above do not resolve a Star Citizen or launcher problem, search the RSI Issue Council for an existing report or contribute details to one. For an issue that needs RSI Support, RSI lists these potentially useful diagnostics:
