The Battlefield 6 Open Beta ended in August 2025, so it is no longer possible to join it or try its modes. During the beta, players sampled modes by choosing playlists, reading their descriptions, and—on eligible Open Weapon playlists—using Custom Search to prioritize a map-and-mode combination. The instructions below explain how that worked at the time and distinguish it from the released game’s mode selection.
When the Battlefield 6 beta ran
EA scheduled early access to begin on August 7, 2025, at 08:00 UTC. Weekend 1 was announced for August 9–11, with its opening and closing times set for 08:00 UTC; Weekend 2 ran August 14–17. EA said the public weekends did not require a code. The beta was available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, or the EA app. These were one-time dates, not recurring access windows. EA’s beta announcement
How players selected modes during the beta
Choose a playlist and read what it included
Weekend 2 offered both playlists devoted to one mode and playlists that rotated among several. Players could check a playlist’s in-game description to see which modes were included, rather than assume a mixed playlist would always offer the same selection. EA’s Weekend 2 playlist announcement
Use Custom Search for a preferred map and mode
In the beta’s Open Weapon playlists, Custom Search let players specify a preferred map-and-mode combination—for example, Conquest on Siege of Cairo. Matchmaking prioritized that combination if it was available. EA noted that Custom Search was not a Server Browser; it did not provide the same function as choosing an individual server.

Try the daily rotation on more than one day
Weekend 2’s playlist selection changed by day. EA described those daily rotations as a beta test and said they were not planned for launch. The announced schedule shows what players could expect during that particular weekend:
| Date | Announced playlist options |
|---|---|
| Thursday, August 14, 2025 | Conquest; Rush; Attack & Defend (Breakthrough, Rush); Close Quarters (Domination, King of the Hill); Closed Weapons All-Out Warfare (Conquest, Breakthrough) |
| Friday, August 15, 2025 | Conquest; Squad Deathmatch; Close Quarters (Domination, King of the Hill, Squad Deathmatch); All-Out Warfare (Conquest, Breakthrough, Rush); Closed Weapons All-Out Warfare (Conquest, Breakthrough) |
| Saturday–Sunday, August 16–17, 2025 | Conquest; Close Quarters (Domination, King of the Hill, Squad Deathmatch); All-Out Warfare (Conquest, Breakthrough, Rush); Closed Weapons All-Out Warfare (Conquest, Breakthrough) |

Start with the beta’s learning options
Training Grounds offered a Firing Range and introductions to classes, Breakthrough, and Conquest. Players at career rank 15 or below could access Initiation Mode, which used AI Soldiers and shifted its experience from Breakthrough to Conquest. Rush had an introduction, but it was not playable as part of that introduction.
Choose weapon rules separately from the mode
The beta also separated weapon access from mode choice. Before the beta, EA described a Closed Weapon Conquest playlist and said it offered full XP progression. Weekend 2’s schedule included Closed Weapons All-Out Warfare playlists featuring Conquest and Breakthrough. EA’s pre-beta weapons update and Weekend 2 playlist announcement

How the modes differed
The modes varied by objective, team roles, scale, and focus. EA’s official mode guide describes the following distinctions:
| Mode | Main objective and feel |
|---|---|
| Conquest | Teams capture and hold multiple control points across a large combat zone, with vehicles and large-scale battles. |
| Rush | Attackers plant explosives at M-COM objectives; defenders try to defuse them. The fight advances sector by sector. |
| Breakthrough | Attackers capture objectives in successive sectors while defenders try to stop them. |
| Domination | Fast, infantry-only control-point fighting in close quarters. |
| King of the Hill | Teams contest moving control points in a fast, close-quarters battle. |
| Squad Deathmatch | Four squads race to reach the kill target. |
| Team Deathmatch | An infantry-focused mode in which kills determine the winner. |
| Escalation | Teams capture strategic points as the number of available points narrows. |
How beta mode selection compares with the released game
The beta’s daily playlist rotation was a testing arrangement, not the planned launch setup. EA’s later launch-planning update described dedicated playlists for Conquest, Breakthrough, and Escalation, as well as combined playlists such as Conquest & Escalation and Breakthrough & Rush. It also described Custom Search and Server Browser access for focusing on a mode. For current play, use the released game’s in-game menus: the beta schedule above does not establish which playlists are available now. EA’s launch-planning update
