To stop live mid-roll ads on a looping YouTube livestream while keeping monetization on, open the stream’s YouTube Studio → Create → Go live → Edit → Monetization settings, select Manual for live mid-rolls, and do not insert any ad breaks. YouTube says no mid-rolls will be served in Manual mode if you insert none. The documented setting is for live streams; YouTube’s instructions do not describe a separate rule for streams that loop.
Set live mid-rolls to Manual with no breaks
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live.
- Open the scheduled livestream you want to change, or schedule a new stream.
- Choose Edit → Monetization.
- Leave the stream’s monetization setting On if you want to retain monetization features other than live mid-rolls.
- Under live ad settings, select Manual. Do not insert any mid-roll breaks.
YouTube Help’s “Monetize your live stream” instructions state: “If you do not insert any mid-roll ad breaks, no mid-rolls will be served.” Interface labels may change, so look for the stream editor’s Monetization settings if the exact path differs.
What this changes—and what it does not
This setting controls live mid-rolls. It does not turn off monetization for the stream as a whole: YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically turned on when monetization is enabled for a live stream. Turning monetization off is a broader change than choosing Manual with no breaks.
Nor does this guarantee that viewers will see no ads of any kind. YouTube does not guarantee that an ad slot will serve; factors include slot quality, advertiser demand, and viewer experience. Viewers who are not served an ad continue watching the livestream, while viewers who do receive one can rejoin after it ends or skip it.

How Automatic, Scheduled, and Manual mid-rolls differ

YouTube notes that Scheduled or Manual may have lower earnings potential than Automatic. In January 2024, YouTube reported over 20% average uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour among channels that enabled live automatic mid-roll ads compared with channels that did not, averaged across 207 countries. That platform-reported comparison is not a prediction for an individual channel, and it does not determine whether interruptions are right for your audience.
Why “Delay ads” is not the same fix
In the Live Control Room, Delay ads pauses automatic mid-roll ads for 10 minutes. It is temporary, and YouTube says manually placed mid-rolls can still display during the delay. Use Manual with no inserted breaks when your aim is to avoid creator-scheduled live mid-rolls, rather than relying on this short pause.

Check the archived replay separately
A livestream’s mid-roll setting and an eligible video’s ad settings are separate controls. YouTube’s help for managing ads on long videos describes turning off mid-rolls for eligible videos; its video monetization instructions cover the broader option of turning monetization off for an individual video. The live-stream guidance does not establish whether changing the live setting retroactively changes the archived replay. If the replay matters, open its own Monetization settings in YouTube Studio and verify them there.
