Open the game’s Settings or Options, then look under Video, Graphics, Visuals or Post-Processing. Switch Motion Blur off, and turn off Chromatic Aberration separately if the game offers it. Menu names and available controls vary by game, so there is no single set of clicks that works across all PC titles.
How to turn off the effects in a game’s settings
- Open the game’s Settings or Options menu. Depending on the title, you may need to reach it from the main menu or title screen.
- Check Video, Graphics, Visuals and Post-Processing. These are common places for display and image-effect controls, but the exact category differs by game.
- Set Motion Blur to Off. If the game uses levels such as Low, Medium and High instead of an on/off switch, choose the lowest level or consult the game’s documentation to confirm what that choice does.
- Look for Chromatic Aberration as a separate setting and switch it off if available. One effect’s control does not necessarily disable the other.
- Choose Apply or Save if the menu offers it. Return to gameplay to check the result; restart only if the game asks you to.
The controls can be separate: EA’s Jedi: Fallen Order PC visual-settings page documents individual Motion Blur and Chromatic Aberration switches. Other games may put them in different menus or bundle them with broader post-processing options.
What the settings change
Motion blur
Motion blur softens the image during movement. EA describes the Jedi: Fallen Order setting as controlling blur when the camera or objects move rapidly. Turning it off can make motion look clearer if you dislike the effect, though it also changes the game’s intended presentation.
Chromatic aberration
Chromatic aberration adds a color-separation or color-correction effect associated with different focal planes. EA uses that description for its Jedi: Fallen Order control. The result is a matter of visual preference: disabling it removes that presentation effect, not a setting that is guaranteed to improve performance.

Will turning them off improve frame rate?
Do not assume either change will produce a noticeable performance gain. NVIDIA’s The Witcher 3 graphics and performance guide reports that Blur and Motion Blur together appeared to cost a few frames per second in a fight in its testing. The same guide reports an average cost of 0.3 frames per second across multiple tests for Chromatic Aberration. These figures apply to NVIDIA’s testing of The Witcher 3, not to other games, hardware or settings combinations.
If there is no setting in the menu
First check the exact game’s official manual, support pages and patch notes. The effect may be absent, combined with another visual-quality control, or exposed through a launcher rather than an in-game menu. For example, Capcom’s Street Fighter IV PC manual routes PC settings through the title screen or Main menu > Options > PC settings, and lists Motion Blur among its graphics controls.

Do not try a random launch argument or configuration recipe from another game. Steam explains that launch options can supersede a game’s internal settings, but its listed common options apply to GoldSrc and Source games, not PC games generally. Steam’s performance troubleshooting guidance also notes that results vary between machines and directs users to the relevant game support for title-specific help.
A configuration-file edit is a last resort, and only makes sense when a trustworthy source confirms the file path and setting for the exact game version. Do not assume a community post is current: Steam marks a Drive Beyond Horizons Unreal Engine Engine.ini guide, posted March 27, 2025, as removed and incompatible with the game. It is not a reliable recipe to follow.

What to check when testing a change
- Whether Motion Blur and Chromatic Aberration have independent controls or are bundled together.
- Whether the control is a switch or offers levels such as Off, Low and High.
- Whether the change applies in gameplay, cutscenes or both, if the game makes that distinction.
- Whether your saved setting remains in effect after relaunching the game.
