Roblox does not document a single universal “privacy mode” switch. The right setting depends on what you’re trying to change: chat, access to experiences, or who can see you and join you. Start with the symptom or exact message you see, then use the matching control below.
Find the setting that matches the problem

Turn Experience chat on
For your own account, open Settings → Privacy & content restrictions → Communication → Experience chat. Roblox says users cannot turn on chat through settings until they complete an age check. Users ages 5–9 need parental consent to enable Experience chat. Users under 16 need parental consent to enable Direct chat. Regional restrictions may also apply. See Roblox Support’s Experience Chat guidance for the current eligibility rules.
For a linked child account, the parent can open Settings → Parental Controls → select the child → Settings You Manage → Communication → Experience chat. If the option is unavailable, check age verification, consent requirements, and regional availability rather than looking for a general privacy switch.
Change a child’s content maturity setting
If a linked child cannot access an experience, a parent can review the maturity setting at Settings → Parental Controls → select the child → Settings You Manage → Content restrictions → Content maturity. Roblox describes this as a maturity slider. A blocked experience can reflect its content rating or another eligibility restriction, not a broad privacy mode. Roblox states that Restricted experiences are available only to users who are 18 or older and age checked. Details are in Roblox’s Parental Controls overview.

Let others see your status or current experience
To adjust what other people can see, go to Settings → Privacy & content restrictions → Visibility & private servers → Visibility. Roblox provides separate controls for Online Status and Show current experience. Choose who can see whether you are online and which experience you are playing. Available choices vary by age and region, and changing one visibility option may affect related settings. See Roblox’s account privacy and chat settings.
Why you may not be able to remove a restriction yourself
Roblox says accounts belonging to users under 13 automatically receive stronger privacy settings. Those age-based protections are distinct from an individual chat or visibility preference. If the account is linked to a parent, the parent can manage available controls through Settings → Parental Controls → select the child → Settings You Manage. Content maturity is under Content restrictions; communication options are under Communication. The options shown can depend on the account’s age and region.

What happened to Account Restrictions?
Roblox’s Privacy and Cookie Policy describes Account Restrictions as a control that turns off chat and public commenting and limits an account to certain filtered experiences. However, a Roblox Developer Forum announcement published January 29, 2025 said Account Restrictions and the parent PIN were deprecated on November 18, 2024. Current Roblox support guidance instead directs users to separate parental, communication, content, and visibility controls. The official support pages do not establish a current universal path for switching off the legacy feature, so older instructions such as Settings → Security → Account Restrictions should not be treated as guaranteed current steps.
