To remove Fortnite’s radial sound indicators, open Settings → Audio, turn Visualize Sound Effects off, and select Apply. That setting removes the rings and icons that visualize nearby sounds.
It does not necessarily hide the Quack Sprite cosmetic, a back bling, or an aura shown on your character. For that, inspect Settings → Game UI/HUD for a Sprite or back-bling visibility control. Epic’s public documentation does not currently confirm one universal Quack-specific switch, and the label can vary by platform or game version. If the effect exists only on a Creative island, it may come from a creator device; only the island’s creator can change that device’s visual or audio settings.

“Quack Sprite effects” can describe three different things in Fortnite: the standard visual-sound rings, a Sprite or back-bling model displayed on your character, or visual and audio effects generated by a Creative island. They are controlled in different places. Turning off one will not automatically turn off the others.

Identify which effect you are seeing
| What you see or hear | Most likely source | Where the control belongs |
|---|---|---|
| Radial rings, arcs or icons that point toward footsteps, gunfire, vehicles or other sounds | Fortnite’s Visualize Sound Effects accessibility indicator | Your player settings in the Audio tab |
| A duck-like Sprite, glow, trail or other character decoration that stays attached to your avatar | A Sprite or back-bling display | Game UI/HUD or cosmetic-display settings, if your build exposes a control |
| An effect that appears only on one Creative island or near a particular object | A creator device producing VFX or audio | The island creator’s device configuration |
Start with the first row if the unwanted effect is a ring around the edge of the screen. Start with Game UI/HUD if the problem is a character model or cosmetic. If neither matches and the effect is confined to one island, treat it as an island-specific device effect rather than a global Fortnite option.

Turn off the visual sound rings
Epic’s support instructions place the control in the Audio tab. Use this sequence from the lobby:
- Return to the Fortnite lobby.
- Open your profile icon.
- Select Settings.
- Open the Audio tab.
- Find Visualize Sound Effects.
- Switch it to Off.
- Select Apply to save the change.
After applying the setting, the radial indicators that translate sounds into on-screen graphics should disappear. The underlying sounds are not muted by this switch: footsteps, shots, chests and other game audio can still be audible through your normal audio mix. The control changes the visual representation, not the source sound.
If the rings remain visible
- Confirm that you selected Apply; leaving the settings screen without applying can discard the change.
- Reopen Settings → Audio and verify that the option still reads Off.
- Check the effect in a fresh match or after returning to the lobby. A menu preview or a match that was already active may not immediately reflect every interface change.
- Look at the shape of the effect. A ring or directional arc is addressed by Visualize Sound Effects; a Sprite model or aura is a different display layer and requires the Game UI/HUD check described below.
Hide the Quack Sprite or its character effect
Epic’s currently published public instructions do not establish a single, Quack-specific toggle that works on every platform. If you want to hide the Sprite itself, inspect the display controls rather than Audio:

- Open the lobby menu and choose Settings.
- Open Game UI or HUD. The exact tab name can differ after a Fortnite update or between platform builds.
- Read the available visibility options for references to Sprites, back bling, cosmetics or character displays.
- If your build provides a Sprite or back-bling visibility option, switch it off and select Apply.
- Enter a match and check the character in the locker preview, lobby and gameplay. Some display controls affect only the in-match model, while others affect menus as well.
A community report has mentioned a Sprite back-bling visibility setting, but that report is not an official, platform-complete instruction. The wording may be different, the control may be grouped under another HUD label, or the option may not be present in your build. Do not assume that a missing option indicates a broken installation; it may simply not be exposed on that platform or version.
What to do when no Sprite visibility option exists
If Game UI/HUD contains no Sprite, back-bling or cosmetic-display control, Fortnite’s documented settings do not provide a verified universal way to hide that particular model or aura. You can still turn off the visual sound rings independently. Removing the on-screen display also does not remove the Sprite from your match inventory or change its gameplay function.
Creative islands can use separate visual and audio effects
An effect that appears only in a particular Creative experience may be created by a device placed by the island author. Epic’s Creative documentation treats visual effects and audio as separate device properties. A creator can disable a device’s VFX or set its sound selection to None, depending on the device and the island’s setup.

Those are creator-side settings, not controls available to an ordinary visitor. A player can disable Visualize Sound Effects for their own account, but that does not remove a creator’s custom particles, flashes, trails or sounds. If the effect is confined to one island:
Recommended Free Tools
- Leave the island and test Battle Royale or another island. If the effect disappears, the island configuration is the likely source.
- Tell the island creator which device, area and effect trigger it. The creator may need to disable the device’s VFX, choose None for its sound, or adjust the trigger logic.
- Do not expect a global Audio setting to suppress every custom sound made by a Creative device; the device’s own configuration controls that output.
Understand what the Quack Sprite changes in gameplay
The Quack Sprite is not only a visual accessory. Epic’s Battle Royale update notes for version 41.30, published July 30, 2026, describe a progression-sharing effect: “Whenever your Quack Sprite gains progress, every other Sprite you’re carrying in your match inventory also gains an extra 50% of that progress. Share the love!”
This means hiding a model, turning off visual sound indicators or silencing a Creative device does not disable the Quack Sprite’s progression mechanic. Display settings change what you see; they do not remove the Sprite from the match inventory or alter the documented extra-progress rule. The 50% figure is the value stated in Epic’s update notes for that feature.

“I see rings when someone makes a sound.”
Use Settings → Audio → Visualize Sound Effects → Off → Apply. This is the official control for Fortnite’s radial visual sound indicators.
“The rings are gone, but the duck or glow is still on my character.”
The two effects are separate. Inspect Game UI/HUD for a Sprite, back-bling or cosmetic-visibility option. If none is available, there is no publicly verified universal Quack-specific switch to follow.

“I hear or see the effect only on one Creative map.”
Test another mode or island. A map-specific result points to a creator device. Ask the island author to disable the device’s VFX or set its sound to None; changing your personal Audio tab cannot reconfigure that island.

“The menu label in a guide does not match mine.”
Fortnite’s settings labels and tab organization can change with updates and can differ by platform. Look for the function rather than an exact sentence: visual sound indicators belong under Audio; HUD and cosmetic display belong under Game UI/HUD. Recheck after an update if an option has moved.
“I turned off the setting and now I cannot find sound cues visually.”
That is the expected trade-off of disabling Visualize Sound Effects. The game no longer converts those sounds into rings or directional graphics. If you depend on the indicators for awareness, you can return to Settings → Audio, turn the option back on, and apply the change.
Scope and limitations of each setting
| Setting or action | Removes | Does not remove |
|---|---|---|
| Audio → Visualize Sound Effects → Off | Fortnite’s radial visual indicators for sounds | Audible game sounds, a Sprite model or aura, and Creative devices’ custom effects |
| Game UI/HUD visibility option, when available | The selected on-screen Sprite, back-bling or cosmetic display | The Quack Sprite’s inventory presence or documented progression mechanic |
| Creator disables a Creative device’s VFX | That device’s custom visual effect on the island | Global Battle Royale indicators and unrelated devices |
| Creator sets a device sound to None | That device’s configured audio output | Other island sounds or Fortnite’s normal game audio |
Platform and version checks
Use the labels currently shown in your own Fortnite client. The documented Audio path is the reliable starting point for visual sound rings, but Fortnite updates can move options or change their wording. The same applies to Game UI/HUD controls, especially for cosmetic visibility. The absence of a Sprite option on one platform does not prove that another platform exposes it, and the presence of a community-described option does not make it an officially supported universal feature.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhen reporting a problem or asking an island creator for help, note your platform, Fortnite version, the mode or island where it occurs, and whether the effect is a ring, a character-attached visual or a custom device effect. That information separates a personal settings issue from an island configuration issue without changing unrelated options.
Quick checklist
- Classify the effect: sound ring, character Sprite/cosmetic or Creative-only effect.
- For rings, open Settings → Audio, turn Visualize Sound Effects off and select Apply.
- For a character-attached Sprite, inspect Settings → Game UI/HUD for a Sprite or back-bling visibility control.
- If no such control appears, treat a universal Quack-specific hide switch as unverified rather than changing unrelated settings.
- If the effect is limited to one Creative island, ask the creator to disable the device’s VFX or set its sound to None.
- Remember that display and audio changes do not remove the Quack Sprite’s documented progression-sharing effect.
No headset, controller, cable or other physical product is required. These effects are controlled through Fortnite’s software settings or, for Creative content, by the island creator’s device configuration.
