Update Marvel’s Wolverine to version 1.002.001 or later, then use the Hint button—R3 by default—to show story-related scent trails only when you need them. For other Senses, switch off only the individual cue you want to hide. The game’s official notes call these effects “Scent Trails” and “Senses”; “fart trails” is the colloquial nickname.
Turn story-related scent trails on only when needed
- Update the game to version 1.002.001 or later. Insomniac added the story-related scent-trail control in its October 6, 2026 update. Read the Update 1.002.001 notes.
- Press the Hint button when you want the trail to appear. It is R3 by default. This makes story-related scent trails available on demand rather than continuously visible.
Insomniac’s update notes document the Hint-button behavior but do not give a menu path for a separate story-trail setting. Avoid changing Navigation Assist or Senses Color Customization in search of this control: Insomniac lists those as distinct accessibility options in its accessibility guide.
Hide other sensory cues individually
For whisky collectibles and other listed cues, use the game’s Senses controls and turn off only the entry you want hidden. Update 1.001.006 or later is required for these separate toggles; the update was released October 1, 2026.

See Insomniac’s Update 1.001.006 notes for the three separate toggles. They state: “Story-critical Senses will still appear in the world.” The later Hint-button option changes how story-related trails are summoned, but the official notes do not promise that every story-critical sensory cue can be disabled.

Why the controls may look different on an older version
- Version 1.001.005, September 25, 2026: reduced the opacity of Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators. Insomniac said it was exploring toggleable options in a future update. Update 1.001.005 notes.
- Version 1.001.006, October 1, 2026: added separate on/off controls for Whisky Bottle Scent Trails, Material Crate Audio Clues, and Nightmare Door Roots, while noting that story-critical Senses would still appear.
- Version 1.002.001, October 6, 2026: added the Hint-button option for story-related scent trails.
If the Hint-button behavior or individual toggles are missing, check that the game has installed the update that introduced the control you need. The setting instructions apply to Marvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac’s PS5 game; its official game page identifies the platform.
