On a PS5 Pro, go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality. Sony says the option is on by default and works only with certain PSSR-compatible games, so enabling it does not add PSSR to every game.
Check that your console supports the setting
Sony limits Enhance PSSR Image Quality to consoles in the CFI-7000 model group—the PS5 Pro hardware family. It is not a setting for every PS5 model. Sony’s PS5 resolution support guide gives the compatibility limit and menu path.

Find and use Enhance PSSR Image Quality
- From the PS5 Pro home screen, open Settings.
- Select Screen and Video, then Video Output.
- Choose Enhance PSSR Image Quality. Sony says this option is on by default.
- Launch a game that supports PSSR. The setting applies to certain compatible games; its presence in the system menu does not mean every game uses the feature.
To judge the result for yourself, compare the same scene with the option on and off. Look at fine details and image stability both when the camera is still and while it moves. The effect is specific to the game and its implementation, so a visible change in one title does not predict what you will see in another.
What the setting changes—and what it cannot promise
PSSR stands for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. Sony describes it as an AI library that analyzes game images pixel by pixel while upscaling them. The upgraded version is intended to improve image stability and clarity in fine detail, but those are qualitative aims, not a promise of a particular output resolution, frame-rate increase, or identical improvement across the library.

There are two related pieces: a game must support PSSR, and the PS5 Pro’s system-level option can enhance image quality in certain games that already support it. Developers may also integrate or update PSSR in individual titles. Sony said on March 16, 2026, that upgraded PSSR was fully integrated with a system software update and that the option could be applied to PS5 Pro games already supporting PSSR. Sony also said it expected most new PS5 Pro titles to launch with support; that was a forward-looking expectation, not a guarantee.
Mark Cerny, PS5 and PS5 Pro lead architect, wrote on February 27, 2026, that PSSR had been used to boost the effective resolution of over 50 PS5 Pro titles at that time. That dated figure describes use of PSSR, not a count of titles that necessarily benefit from the newer system-level enhancement.
What to do if a game looks wrong
If you notice unexpected visual effects, switch Enhance PSSR Image Quality off and compare the same scene again. Sony explicitly recommends turning it off if such effects occur. Game support can also change as developers release patches, so check the game’s update status and revisit the comparison after an update.
