In Minecraft: Java Edition, press F3 to open the debug screen, then press 1 to turn on the pie chart. The chart appears on the right side of the screen and is officially called the profiler graph.

How to open the Minecraft pie chart
- Launch Minecraft: Java Edition and enter a world.
- Press F3 once. The debug screen should appear.
- While the debug screen is active, press 1.
- Look on the right side of the screen for the circular profiler graph—the feature commonly called the pie chart.
To hide it, use F3 and 1 again, subject to the exact toggle behavior of your Minecraft version.
Does Shift + F3 still open the pie chart?
Older Minecraft tutorials commonly say to press Shift + F3. That shortcut applied to older releases. For current Java Edition controls, use F3, then 1 while the debug screen is open.

The difference is why an old video or forum post may appear to contradict the current shortcut. If Shift + F3 does nothing, try the current F3 then 1 sequence instead.
What to do if F3 + 1 does not work
1. Try the Fn key
On many laptops, the top-row keys also control brightness, volume, or other hardware functions. In that case, press Fn + F3 to open the debug screen, then press 1.

If this works but you would prefer to use F3 normally, check whether your keyboard has an Fn Lock or function-lock mode. The exact key combination depends on the laptop manufacturer.

2. Click the Minecraft window
Make sure Minecraft is the active window before using the shortcut. Click inside the game, close any operating-system overlay, and try F3 followed by 1 again.
3. Check that you are playing Java Edition
The standard F3 debug screen and its profiler pie chart are Java Edition features. Minecraft: Bedrock Edition does not use the same standard F3 pie-chart workflow, so Java instructions should not be expected to work there.
4. Check the tutorial’s Minecraft version
Keyboard shortcuts can change between releases. If the instructions you found say Shift + F3, they may have been written for an older version. Confirm that the guide covers the same Java Edition version you are running.

5. Use the correct key on a compact keyboard
On a 60% or other compact keyboard, F3 may be placed on an Fn layer, often accessed with Fn plus a number-row key. The exact combination is hardware-specific. First find the key combination that produces F3, then use it to open the debug screen before pressing 1.
If you regularly use Java debug shortcuts and your laptop or compact keyboard makes F3 awkward, a keyboard with dedicated function keys can make the shortcut easier to use. This is optional: Minecraft does not require a separate keyboard, and the pie chart is still opened through the same in-game shortcut.
What is the Minecraft pie chart used for?
The pie chart is a performance-diagnostics display. It breaks down Minecraft’s current activity so you can investigate which parts of the game are using processing time. Players often use it while diagnosing lag, examining world activity, or investigating performance problems.
It is not an inventory, crafting, or gameplay menu. If you only want to play normally, you can leave it off and close the debug screen after checking the information you need.

Java Edition versus Bedrock Edition

Short answer: if you are playing Java Edition, open a world, press F3, and then press 1. If that fails, try Fn + F3, confirm that Minecraft is the active window, and check that you are not following an older Shift + F3 guide.

Can you open the pie chart in Minecraft Bedrock?
The standard F3 profiler pie chart is a Java Edition debug feature. Bedrock Edition does not use the same standard F3 pie-chart shortcut.
