You can turn existing YouTube videos into podcast episodes without re-uploading them: organize the full episodes in a playlist, then add YouTube’s podcast features to that playlist in YouTube Studio. If your show is audio-first and has an RSS feed, YouTube also offers a separate route that creates videos using your podcast artwork.
Turn an existing YouTube playlist into a podcast
On YouTube, a podcast is a playlist, and its episodes are videos in that playlist. This is the simplest route if you already have full episodes on your channel and want those same videos to serve as the podcast. You can mark an existing playlist as a podcast or create a podcast and add existing videos. See YouTube’s podcast setup instructions.
- In YouTube Studio, open Content > Playlists.
- Find the playlist containing the show’s full episodes, open its options, and select Add podcast features.
- Review the podcast details, including its title and description. Set visibility, add square podcast artwork, and confirm.
- Check that the playlist contains the full episodes in the order you want listeners to follow.
You can also use Create > New podcast and choose the option to set an existing playlist as a podcast. After setup, add new episodes by uploading them or add videos already on your channel through YouTube Studio.
Choose a clear title and artwork
YouTube recommends square artwork at 1280 × 1280 pixels. Give the show a descriptive title; generic playlist names such as “Full Episodes” or “New Uploads” may lead YouTube Music to use your channel name instead.

Keep episodes separate from clips and Shorts
Use the podcast playlist for full-length episodes, rather than clips or a season-only grouping. Keep Shorts and promotional clips in separate playlists. YouTube says Shorts made to support a podcast will not appear in YouTube Music.
Use an RSS feed for an audio-first podcast
If your show is hosted as an audio podcast with an RSS feed, you may be able to connect the feed in YouTube Studio. YouTube creates videos using the show’s artwork as a static image, and new feed episodes can upload automatically. RSS ingestion is available only in selected countries or regions, so check whether the option is available in your account before building your workflow around it. - In YouTube Studio, connect your podcast’s RSS feed using the available podcast or RSS setup flow.
- Select the episodes you want YouTube to ingest and allow their uploads to finish.
- Review the resulting uploads in the video tab while they are private. Check for copyright or monetization issues before publishing.
- Choose how to publish the episodes after review.
RSS ingestion is a YouTube and YouTube Music delivery route, not distribution to other podcast platforms. It also has important update limits: YouTube does not notify subscribers about back-catalog episodes added through RSS, automatically sync show-detail changes, or replace an uploaded episode’s audio when the feed file changes. If you update an audio file or show information, check the corresponding YouTube upload and details yourself.
Spotify for Creators says it creates an RSS feed after the first episode is published when a show is hosted there. If you use that route, check the current hosting and distribution instructions for your account: Spotify for Creators: finding and enabling your RSS feed.

Choose the route that matches your show

Check eligibility, copyright, and disclosures
- Use content you own or are authorized to use. YouTube says some playlists are ineligible for podcast features, including playlists containing content the creator does not own. Copyright-policy violations may also make podcast videos ineligible.
- Make the podcast playlist a show, not a catch-all. Keep full-length episodes together in listening order rather than mixing in clips or grouping only a season.
- Follow YouTube policies. Podcasts remain subject to YouTube Community Guidelines and monetization policies. Podcast designation does not remove those requirements.
- Disclose branded content when required. If an episode includes branded content, sponsorships, or endorsements that require disclosure, declare it in the video settings. See YouTube’s podcast distribution guidance.
