To remove a remembered Steam sign-in from a computer, open the Steam client’s Settings > Security and enable “Don’t save account credentials on this computer.” Sign out of the account you’re switching away from, then sign in to the other one. If by “unlink” you mean revoke the computer’s Steam Guard trust, that is a separate action under Account Details > Manage Steam Guard. Neither action merges accounts or moves games between them.
Choose what you mean by “unlink”
Steam accounts are not joined just because they have both been used on one computer. Different controls handle saved sign-ins, active sessions, device authorization and account security:

Stop Steam remembering an account on this computer
- In the Steam client, sign out of the account you want to stop using.
- If Steam remains active in the background, fully exit the client from Steam or the system tray.
- Open Steam > Settings > Security and enable “Don’t save account credentials on this computer.” Menu placement can change between client updates; look for the current Security setting if the layout or wording differs.
- Sign in to the account you want to use. Do not select a remember-me option if you do not want that sign-in retained.
This changes local credential-saving behavior. It does not delete either Steam account, transfer ownership, or remove the account from Steam.

Revoke this computer’s Steam Guard authorization
If your goal is to make Steam treat the computer as a new device, open Account Details > Manage Steam Guard for the relevant account and deauthorize devices. The next login from a deauthorized device is treated as a new-device login and requires a Steam Guard code. This revokes authorization; it does not sign accounts into one another or transfer games.
Keep accounts separate on a shared computer
- Sign out when you finish, and fully exit Steam rather than leaving it minimized or running in the background.
- Use the no-saved-credentials setting on a computer other people can access.
- Do not use Steam’s
-loginlaunch option on a shared computer. Steam warns it can bypass the login window, and a shortcut may expose a saved password. See Setting Steam Launch Options.

If you suspect someone else has access
Removing a saved login from one computer is not a substitute for securing an account if someone may already have accessed it. Check authorized devices and use Steam’s Sign out everywhere option if an authorized device is unfamiliar. Change the Steam password, secure the linked email account, and scan the computer for malware or suspicious browser extensions. Steam Guard adds an authorization step for logins from unrecognized devices. Steam’s security recommendations and Steam Guard guidance cover these protections.
Phone numbers, account merging and game ownership
A phone number is not the control for removing a remembered client sign-in. Steam says one phone number can be used on multiple accounts, and accounts sharing a number may be treated as the same identity for some policy or restriction purposes; changing the phone association does not clear the computer’s saved login.

Steam does not merge accounts: its support FAQ states, “Steam accounts can not be merged.” Game subscriptions and CD keys cannot be transferred or moved between Steam accounts. Deleting an account is not an unlinking method; deletion is permanent and can remove licenses, inventory, wallet funds, profile information and other associated data. Repeated Steam Guard prompts in a web browser are separate from the desktop client’s saved-account setting. Steam lists blocked or cleared cookies as possible causes, including high browser security, private browsing and automatic history cleanup.
