You can root a Doogee S60 with the community-documented chain of a matching stock firmware package and scatter file, SP Flash Tool, an unofficial TWRP 3.1.1 recovery, and a Magisk or SuperSU root package. The decisive safety issue is matching the exact S60 hardware, region and Android build before flashing. Files for Android 7.0 and Android 8.0 are both documented, but they are not interchangeable. A wrong image can stop the phone from booting, and the XDA instructions explicitly warn against using “Format All & Download” because of IMEI risk.
What this Doogee S60 root method actually involves
This is not a one-click root. The documented method replaces the phone’s recovery with a community-built TWRP image through SP Flash Tool, then starts TWRP directly and installs a root ZIP. The commonly cited recovery is TWRP 3.1.1, and it is unofficial: Doogee is not listed among the OEM entries displayed in TeamWin’s official device directory. Treat the recovery and the installation instructions as community support, not as an official TeamWin release for the S60.

The community material covers Android 7.0 and Android 8.0 S60 files. It also refers to different hardware and RAM/storage variants. That means a file that looks correct because it is labelled “S60” can still be wrong for your handset. Doogee’s official FAQ states that firmware must match the exact model, region and hardware version. Apply that rule to the scatter file, recovery image, boot image and root package rather than mixing files from different posts.
Check compatibility before downloading anything
Record the phone’s identity
- Write down the exact model designation shown on the phone, box or original firmware information.
- Record the Android version: the community instructions cover Android 7.0 and Android 8.0.
- Record the build number, region and hardware or RAM/storage variant.
- Keep the original stock firmware package and its matching scatter file before changing recovery.
If you cannot establish all of those details, stop. “S60” alone is not enough evidence that a TWRP, boot image or scatter file belongs on your device.

- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Android-version comparison
| Phone software | Files documented by the community | Root path | Main compatibility concern |
|---|---|---|---|
| Android 7.0 | Stock ROMs, SP Flash Tool material, TWRP 3.1.1, a pre-rooted boot image and SuperSU are listed in the XDA documentation. | Flash the matching recovery or boot material, boot directly to TWRP, then install the matching root package. | Do not substitute an Android 8.0 scatter, recovery or boot image. |
| Android 8.0 | Android 8.0 scatter files and a Magisk workflow are described in the 4PDA documentation. | Use the Android 8.0 files for the exact S60 variant, flash with SP Flash Tool, boot to recovery and install Magisk. | Do not assume Android 7.0 files have the same partition layout or boot image. |
The table describes what the cited community guides document; it is not a guarantee that every S60 revision uses those exact packages.
Understand the risks and decide whether to continue
Rooting changes the partitions that make the phone start Android. A failed or mismatched flash can cause a boot loop or leave the handset unable to boot. The 4PDA instructions specifically warn that changing recovery and then failing to install root can prevent the system from starting. Root can also erase data, disable or complicate over-the-air updates, and trigger app integrity checks. Those effects depend on the software and apps installed on your particular phone.
- Data loss: make a copy of photos, contacts, messages, authenticator exports and any files stored only on the phone.
- IMEI exposure: do not use SP Flash Tool’s “Format All & Download” option. The XDA instructions associate that option with losing IMEI information.
- Recovery failure: keep the complete, matching stock firmware and scatter file so you have a restore path.
- App and OTA changes: expect some integrity-sensitive apps or update mechanisms to react after root.
- Hardware mismatch: a package for another S60 revision can be worse than a merely failed root attempt.
Do not begin with a nearly empty battery or an interrupted USB connection. Use a stable computer connection and do not disconnect the phone while SP Flash Tool is writing a partition.

Files and tools required
Gather the following before connecting the phone:
- SP Flash Tool, the MediaTek flashing utility used by the community procedure.
- The stock firmware for the exact S60 model, region, hardware version and Android build.
- The scatter file that belongs to that exact firmware package.
- The community TWRP 3.1.1 image identified for your exact S60 variant.
- Either the root package documented for your build: Magisk in the Android 8.0 workflow, or SuperSU in the Android 7.0 material. The XDA material also lists a pre-rooted boot image for its supported setup.
- A copy of the original recovery and boot files, if they are included with your stock package.
Obtain the files from the matching community thread or firmware archive, and compare the version and variant labels before using them. A root ZIP, recovery image or scatter file is not made compatible merely by renaming it.
Bootloader unlocking: what is and is not established
Some S60 procedures require an unlocked bootloader. The available device-specific documentation says that an unlocked bootloader may be required, but it does not establish one universal unlock command that applies to every S60 revision. Do not apply a generic command or an unlock file from another Doogee model.
- Confirm from the guide for your exact build whether the bootloader must be unlocked before recovery flashing.
- Back up the phone before attempting the unlock; an unlock operation can trigger a factory reset.
- Use only the unlock procedure identified for that exact S60 hardware and Android build.
- If the guide does not clearly identify your variant, stop rather than guessing.
Bootloader unlocking and rooting are separate operations. Unlocking may permit unsigned images to be flashed; it does not itself install TWRP or grant root.

Flash the matching TWRP recovery with SP Flash Tool
The following sequence reflects the community workflow while keeping the variant checks in the order that prevents the most serious mistakes.
- Power down and prepare the computer. Close other phone-management or flashing programs. Have the S60 switched off and the correct USB cable ready.
- Open SP Flash Tool and load the scatter file. Select the scatter file from the stock firmware package that matches your exact S60 build. If SP Flash Tool reports a partition or layout mismatch, cancel instead of forcing the operation.
- Select the recovery image. Point the recovery entry to the community TWRP 3.1.1 image intended for that same model, region, hardware variant and Android version. Do not select a recovery from a different S60 post simply because the filename is similar.
- Choose a non-format flashing mode specified by your matching guide. Never select “Format All & Download.” That warning is explicit in the XDA instructions because formatting can damage or erase IMEI-related data.
- Start the download operation, then connect the powered-off phone. Follow SP Flash Tool’s connection prompt and wait for its completion indication. Do not interrupt the cable or close the tool while the recovery partition is being written.
- Disconnect only after completion. Leave the stock firmware and scatter files untouched; they are your recovery path if the new recovery does not start.
The exact partition selections can differ between firmware packages. If the guide for your scatter file specifies a recovery-only operation, follow that guide rather than selecting additional partitions.
Boot directly into TWRP and install root
Why the first reboot matters
After recovery is replaced, boot directly into recovery using the S60’s documented hardware-key sequence for your build. Do not allow the phone to boot normally first if the guide warns that the stock system may restore its original recovery. The community instructions also warn that changing recovery without then installing root can leave the system unable to boot, so have the root package on hand before you flash.

Install Magisk or SuperSU
- From TWRP, locate the root ZIP that matches your Android version and the guide you followed.
- For the Android 8.0 workflow described by 4PDA, use the matching Magisk package.
- For the Android 7.0 material described by XDA, use the matching SuperSU package or the documented pre-rooted boot-image route.
- Confirm the file name and build correspondence before swiping to install. Do not mix a Magisk package with an Android 7.0-only boot image or a SuperSU package intended for another partition layout.
- Wait for the installation to finish, then reboot only when TWRP reports completion.
Magisk and SuperSU are alternative root approaches in the cited guides, not two packages that should be installed together. The evidence does not establish a single newest or universally correct package for every S60 revision, so the build-specific guide takes priority over a generic version recommendation.
First boot and post-root checks
The first boot after a recovery or root change can take longer than a normal restart. Give it time, but do not repeatedly interrupt it. If Android starts, confirm that your data is present and that the root manager or SuperSU installation used by your guide is visible. Keep the stock package and scatter file in a safe location even after a successful boot.

- Expect some apps to report an integrity or security problem after root.
- Assume that automatic OTA updates may fail or require restoration to stock software.
- Do not delete the recovery or boot backups until you have completed a working restore test or decided that your backup is sufficient.
Troubleshooting and recovery paths
The phone loops at the logo after replacing recovery
Return to the exact TWRP procedure and check whether the root package was installed immediately after the recovery change, as the 4PDA instructions warn that omitting that step can prevent booting. If the loop continues, use the matching stock firmware and scatter file to restore the affected partitions. Do not switch to a file from another Android version while troubleshooting.

SP Flash Tool reports a mismatch
Cancel the operation. Recheck the model, region, hardware version, Android build and scatter-file source. A mismatch is a reason to stop, not a prompt to format the device or force the download.
IMEI or cellular service is missing after flashing
Do not repeat the operation with “Format All & Download.” That mode is specifically warned against in the XDA instructions. Preserve the original firmware and seek a variant-specific restoration procedure rather than writing an unrelated modem or NVRAM image.
TWRP will not start
Verify that the recovery image is the unofficial TWRP 3.1.1 build for your exact S60 variant and that it was flashed using its matching scatter file. If necessary, restore the stock recovery from the matching firmware package before attempting another documented recovery flash.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteRooted Android will not pass an app’s integrity check
Root can trigger app integrity checks. That is an application-compatibility consequence, not proof that the recovery flash failed. Keep a stock restore path and follow the root method’s own compatibility guidance; do not flash random “fix” packages from another S60 build.
Rooting is not a screen-lock bypass
A forgotten PIN, password or pattern is a different problem from bootloader unlocking. DOOGEE’s official FAQ says: “For privacy and security, DOOGEE cannot recover or bypass a personal screen-lock code.” It directs owners to the reset instructions for the exact model and warns that a factory reset erases local data. Rooting the S60 should not be treated as a way to preserve data behind a forgotten lock.
When to stop instead of flashing
- You cannot identify the exact hardware or Android build.
- The available scatter file comes from a different region or S60 variant.
- The guide does not say whether your build needs an unlocked bootloader.
- You have no complete backup or no matching stock restore package.
- The only suggested SP Flash Tool mode is “Format All & Download.”
- You need official TeamWin support rather than an unofficial community recovery.
For a confirmed match, the practical sequence is: back up, verify the variant and build, obtain matching stock and scatter files, flash the unofficial TWRP 3.1.1 image with SP Flash Tool without formatting, boot directly into recovery, and install the build-appropriate Magisk or SuperSU package. Every step depends on the identity check before it.
