The unlock route depends on the crossover. SEGA announced Hatsune Miku, Joker and Ichiban Kasuga as racers delivered through free updates, while Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants and PAC-MAN content is described as premium downloadable content. Connect the game to the internet, install the current update, and claim the correct add-on or DLC entitlement for your platform before looking for the racer in the character-selection screens.
The official notices do not document one universal menu path for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo or PC. They do confirm the character-and-machine pairings and the commercial route for each crossover. Use the entitlement information below to avoid buying a Season Pass for a guest racer announced as free, or expecting premium DLC to appear in a standard base-game installation.

Free updates and paid DLC are different unlock routes
Start by identifying what kind of content you want. A free-update racer is distributed separately from a premium DLC pack, even though both ultimately appear in the game’s racer and machine-selection interfaces.

This distinction is the most important part of the process. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the Season Pass in SEGA’s announcement. The physical Standard Edition is identified as the base game, and that announcement does not say it includes the Season Pass. Check the exact product description for your platform and region rather than inferring DLC ownership from the name of the edition.

Which crossover characters and machines are confirmed?
The following table separates a named machine pairing from a confirmed, currently claimable entitlement. A machine being announced does not by itself prove that the associated racer is already available on every platform.

SEGA’s October 23, 2025 announcement also reported more than 1 million units sold worldwide, counting physical units and digital downloads across platforms. That is a dated total, not a current sales figure and not an indication that every crossover is included with the base game.
Before attempting an unlock
Have these conditions in place before troubleshooting a missing character:
- Use the account that owns the game or DLC. A purchase made on a different platform account may not grant an entitlement to the account currently launching the game.
- Install the latest game update. A free racer can be delivered through an update even when no separate store purchase is required.
- Check the platform’s add-on list. Paid packs and claimable free add-ons can be listed separately from the main game.
- Connect to the internet when claiming add-ons. This requirement is explicitly stated in SEGA’s Hatsune Miku update notice.
- Confirm the edition and region. Digital Deluxe, physical Standard and platform-specific bundles can carry different entitlements.
- Close and relaunch the game after installation. This is a practical way to make newly installed content appear; the exact behavior can vary by platform.
How to unlock Hatsune Miku
Miku is the clearest documented example because SEGA states both the distribution route and the claim requirement.
- Update Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Use your platform’s normal game-update function and wait for the installation to complete.
- Sign in to the account that owns the game. If several profiles use the console or PC, use the purchasing or primary game account first.
- Connect to the internet. SEGA’s September 22, 2025 notice states: “An Internet connection is required to claim add-ons.”
- Claim or install the free add-on if your platform presents one. The wording and location of the claim control can differ by storefront and platform, so follow the current on-screen label rather than searching for a prescribed universal menu name.
- Launch the game again. Allow any entitlement check or additional content installation to finish.
- Open the game’s racer-selection screen. Look for Hatsune Miku, then check the machine-selection screen for her Diva Macchina.
The official notice confirms the racer, machine and internet requirement, but it does not publish a platform-by-platform sequence of menu labels. If Miku is not visible after the add-on has been claimed, use the troubleshooting checks below instead of assuming that a festival reward or a paid pass is required.

How to use Joker
Joker was announced as part of a free update that SEGA said was live on October 23, 2025. His associated machine is the Arsène Wing.
- Install the game update released for the free Joker content. Check the platform’s update status rather than relying only on the game’s title-screen version text.
- Verify the update completed on the account that plays the game. If the platform separates downloadable add-ons from patches, confirm that the free Joker entitlement is installed or claimed.
- Restart the game. This refreshes the content entitlement after an update or add-on installation.
- Select Joker in the racer list. Choose the Arsène Wing in the machine list when you want the announced character-and-machine pairing.
Joker’s Festival is a separate issue. SEGA described a Festival beginning October 24, 2025, with Festival Points that could earn exclusive in-game items. Those time-limited rewards should not be confused with the statement that Joker himself was available through the free update. A missed Festival does not, on the evidence available here, establish that the racer is locked permanently.
What to do about Ichiban Kasuga
SEGA’s June announcement pairs Ichiban Kasuga with the Dragon Brave and describes him as part of the free-update crossover plans. The reviewed official material does not establish his current release status or provide exact menu steps.
Use a verification-first approach:
- Update the game on the platform where you play.
- Check the platform’s installed content and available add-ons while signed in to the correct account.
- Look for a current in-game or storefront notice that identifies Ichiban as available.
- Only after the update or entitlement is present, open the racer and machine-selection screens and look for Ichiban and the Dragon Brave.
If none of those checks shows the content, the announcement alone is not enough to diagnose the cause. Do not buy premium DLC on the assumption that it contains Ichiban, and do not treat the Dragon Brave pairing as proof that the racer is live in every region or edition.
How premium crossover DLC works
Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants and PAC-MAN are described by SEGA as premium DLC rather than the free guest-racer updates announced for Miku, Joker and Ichiban. The normal process is entitlement-based:

- Identify the exact pack. Read the store listing to confirm the platform, region and included characters or content.
- Check whether your edition already includes the Season Pass. SEGA’s announcement says the Digital Deluxe Edition includes it. Do not assume the physical Standard Edition does.
- Purchase or redeem the pack on the account that owns the game. Avoid using a secondary account if the platform does not share DLC licenses between profiles.
- Install the downloadable content. A completed purchase may still require a separate download or an entitlement refresh.
- Launch the game after installation. Check the racer and machine-selection screens for the newly entitled content.
The reviewed announcements do not provide a complete list of premium pack contents, prices, menu labels or machine pairings for these three crossovers. Use the current platform listing for those details, and treat “premium DLC” as a requirement to own the relevant entitlement, not as a guarantee that every crossover is bundled together.

Selecting a crossover racer and machine
Once the content is installed, selection is normally a two-part task: choose the character and choose the machine. The official pages reviewed confirm the pairings for Miku, Joker and Ichiban, but they do not document one exact button sequence that applies to every platform.
- Enter the game mode in which racer selection is available.
- Open the current racer-selection interface using the control shown by your platform’s on-screen prompt.
- Move through the roster until the entitled crossover character is visible and selectable.
- Confirm the character, then open the machine-selection interface.
- Choose the associated machine when you want the announced pairing: Diva Macchina for Miku, Arsène Wing for Joker or Dragon Brave for Ichiban when his content is available.
- Confirm the loadout and begin the race.
Do not rely on a walkthrough that gives a fixed sequence of button presses without identifying its platform and version. Interface labels and navigation can change, while the entitlement check remains the useful diagnostic step.
Troubleshooting a missing crossover character
The game is unpatched
Free-update content will not appear in an old game build. Pause any attempted selection and finish the platform’s update process. Relaunch only after the update reports completion.
The add-on was never claimed
This is especially relevant to Miku. Connect to the internet and look for the platform’s claim, redeem or add-on installation control. SEGA explicitly makes an internet connection part of the Miku add-on claim process.

The wrong account is active
Confirm that the profile launching the game is the one that owns the game, purchased the paid DLC or redeemed the free add-on. On shared systems, test with the purchasing account before assuming the content is unavailable.
The edition does not include the expected DLC
A Standard Edition purchase should not be treated as a Season Pass purchase. Re-read the platform listing for the exact edition. SEGA specifically identifies the Digital Deluxe Edition as including the Season Pass.
You are looking for event rewards instead of the racer
Festival Points and exclusive event items are rewards from a Festival. They are not the same entitlement as the free-update announcement for Joker. Search the racer roster after updating instead of searching the event-reward inventory.
The announcement is older than the current platform listing
Announcements establish what SEGA planned or released at the stated date; they do not prove that every region, storefront or later platform build currently exposes the same content. For Ichiban in particular, the reviewed sources do not confirm a current live status. Use the current platform entitlement screen as the final check.

Festivals are not the general unlock system
SEGA listed a Hatsune Miku Festival for October 3–6, 2025 (UTC+8) and described a Joker Festival starting October 24, 2025. Those dates are historical schedules, not evergreen promises that a future player can use to unlock a racer.

The safe distinction is:
- Character access: determined by the free update or paid DLC entitlement attached to the game and account.
- Festival participation: a time-limited activity that can distribute points or exclusive in-game items.
- Machine selection: available through the game’s selection interface once the associated content is installed and recognized.
Which edition should you choose?
If your goal is only a free guest racer, an edition marketed with a Season Pass is not automatically necessary. Miku and Joker were announced through free updates, while Ichiban was announced as a free-update racer whose current availability is not established in the reviewed material.
If you want the premium Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants or PAC-MAN crossover content, compare the exact edition and pack entitlements before buying. SEGA’s announcement says the Digital Deluxe Edition contains the Season Pass; it does not say that the physical Standard Edition contains it. Confirm the platform, territory and included content on the store page or package before checkout.
What the official notices establish—and what they do not
They establish separate free and premium distribution routes, the Digital Deluxe Season Pass inclusion, Miku’s internet-required add-on claim, Miku’s Diva Macchina, Joker’s October 23, 2025 free-update availability and Arsène Wing, and Ichiban’s announced Dragon Brave pairing. They also establish the historical Festival dates and the dated worldwide sales figure of more than 1 million units as of SEGA’s October 23, 2025 announcement.
