Defeat Mega Satan once to unlock Apollyon in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance. Apollyon is an unlockable character introduced in the Afterbirth+ DLC, and the cited character reference documents this unlock for Repentance.
How to reach Mega Satan
A route guide describes this path to the boss; it is an unofficial fan guide, not an official developer instruction:
![Juggernaut (From 'The Binding of Isaac: Repentance') [Metal Cover]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41tFW9OWItS._SL160_.jpg)
- Clear either the Chest or the Dark Room.
- Visit two Angel Rooms and bomb the Angel statues to obtain both Key Pieces.
- Use the completed key to open the golden door in Chapter VI and enter the Mega Satan fight.
Defeating Mega Satan is the unlock condition. The route guide explains one way to reach the fight, rather than a separate requirement for unlocking Apollyon.
What Apollyon starts with
After unlocking him, Apollyon’s starting item is Void. The character reference covers Repentance and points to a separate page for Repentance+, so this answer is scoped to Repentance, not Repentance+.
