Cloudstrike is a random completion reward from Empire Hunts on Europa. To reach those hunts, complete the Beyond Light campaign, finish the required post-campaign steps with Variks, and unlock selectable hunts through his Sabotage progression. Then repeat Empire Hunts until the sniper drops; Bungie does not publish a current drop percentage or guarantee a drop on any run.
How to get Cloudstrike
- Complete the Beyond Light campaign on Europa. Bungie’s new-player guide places the campaign on Europa and recommends completing Variks’s side quests.
- Finish Variks’s post-campaign quest steps. If Empire Hunts are not available after the campaign, complete Reclaiming Europa, Empire’s Fall, and The Dark Priestess. Bungie support guidance says to return to Variks in Charon’s Crossing afterward to pick up or purchase Empire Hunt quests.
- Unlock selectable difficulty hunts. Progress through Variks’s Europan Explorer Sabotage objectives. A guide updated June 10, 2026 identifies Europan Explorer I as requiring kills with Kinetic, Energy, and Power weapons, and Europan Explorer II as requiring 30 powerful-enemy defeats in Empire Hunts. Check the objective text in the in-game Sabotage menu if it differs.
- Launch an Empire Hunt on Europa and complete it. Bungie lists Cloudstrike as a chance-based completion reward, so repeat hunts if it does not drop.
Where to launch Empire Hunts
Use the Europa and Variks route to launch the hunt, especially when working on Variks’s Sabotage objectives. Bungie support distinguishes this route from launching activities through Fireteam Ops or Vanguard Ops, where the relevant progress may not register.

Activity navigation changed in Bungie’s June 9, 2026 update, so older map screenshots and interface directions may not match the live game. Follow the current Europa and Variks prompts rather than relying on an outdated menu layout.
If Empire Hunts are missing after the campaign
Finishing the main Beyond Light campaign may not be enough to expose the hunt access path. Check Variks’s available quests and complete any missing post-campaign steps, particularly Reclaiming Europa, Empire’s Fall, and The Dark Priestess. After The Dark Priestess, return to Variks at Charon’s Crossing and check his inventory for Empire Hunt quests.
#1 Best Overall
- From the makers of the acclaimed hit game Destiny, comes the much-anticipated sequel
- An action shooter that takes you on an epic journey across the solar system
- Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion
- To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home
If a Sabotage objective is not progressing, make sure you are launching the hunt from Europa/Variks, not from Fireteam Ops or Vanguard Ops.
Does a higher difficulty improve the Cloudstrike drop chance?
Current sources establish only that Cloudstrike can drop when an Empire Hunt is completed. They do not establish a reliable drop percentage or verify that higher difficulty increases the chance. Choose the fastest difficulty you can complete reliably rather than assuming a harder hunt will improve the odds.

Do you need to buy Beyond Light?
Bungie says the Beyond Light campaign and Stasis subclass are free. Its Beyond Light Pack guide also lists Cloudstrike among the pack’s Exotic weapons, but does not fully spell out every current activity-entitlement or platform-specific case. The available information does not support saying that a purchase is always required to obtain Cloudstrike; check the current in-game access prompts for your account and platform.
