To unlock more Tool slots in Silksong, rest at a bench, choose a Crest, and use a Memory Locket to open one of that Crest’s locked colored slots. Equip a Tool of the matching color from the Crest tab. For slots available independently of your equipped Crest, progress Eva’s Vesticrest route at Weavenest Atla.
How to unlock a Crest slot

Choose the Crest you want to expand and rest at a bench. Crests affect Hornet’s Needle attacks and determine the available Tool-slot layout.

Open that Crest’s equipment screen and select one of its locked colored Tool slots.

Spend a Memory Locket to open the selected slot. Each Locket opens one slot on that Crest only; it does not unlock slots across all Crests.

At the bench, open the inventory’s Crest tab, highlight a Tool, and use the displayed Equip Tool control. Its color must match the open slot.
Tool colors and what they do
| Tool color | General role |
|---|---|
| Red | Generally active offensive Tools; many have limited uses and are replenished at benches. |
| Blue | Generally passive effects related to combat and survivability. |
| Yellow | Generally passive effects that help with exploration or resource gathering. |
These are broad categories, not guarantees that every Tool of a color works the same way. Check a Tool’s description and make sure your chosen Crest has an unlocked slot of its color.

Get extra Tool slots with the Vesticrest
The Vesticrest provides a separate way to equip Tools, independent of the currently equipped Crest. Eva at Weavenest Atla gives it to you after you have unlocked 12 slots across Crests other than Hunter. Automatically unlocked slots on newly claimed Crests count toward that total.
After you have unlocked 20 slots, Eva upgrades the Vesticrest to add one Blue Tool slot alongside its Yellow Tool slot. These thresholds count unlocked slots; they are not a number of Memory Lockets spent on Hunter.

Which Crest slot should you unlock?
Choose based on the Tool you want to use and its color. First check that the Crest you plan to equip has a locked slot of that color. Because a Memory Locket upgrade belongs to the selected Crest, you may need to unlock slots on more than one Crest if you switch between them.

Does one Memory Locket unlock slots on every Crest?
No. It opens one locked colored Tool slot on the Crest you selected.
Why can’t I equip a Tool in an open slot?
The Tool and slot colors must match. Check the Tool’s color and the selected Crest’s slot layout.
How do I get the Vesticrest’s extra slots?
Eva at Weavenest Atla grants the Vesticrest after 12 slots are unlocked across Crests other than Hunter. At 20 unlocked slots, she upgrades it with one Blue Tool slot in addition to its Yellow Tool slot.
