For example, using The Faces We Wear – Oval Spectacles unlocks Oval Spectacles as Facewear. Afterward, equip or remove the style from its dedicated Facewear slot, and choose from 12 colors.
Unlock a style with its matching item
- Obtain the The Faces We Wear item named for the glasses style you want. Each style has a corresponding unlock item; the Patch 7.0 notes give Oval Spectacles as an example: Square Enix Patch 7.0 Notes.
- Use that item from your inventory to unlock the style. The item is consumed as part of the unlock.
- Open the Facewear interface from Character > Facewear, or use the separate Facewear equipment slot in the Character window. Select the unlocked glasses and a color.
Facewear is separate from other equippable accessories, and equipped styles can be changed or removed freely. Facewear also appears in portraits, as described in the Patch 7.0 notes.

Already owned certain old spectacles? Exchange them free
If you acquired any of these fashion accessories before Patch 7.0, a Calamity Salvager can exchange it for the corresponding Facewear at no charge:
- False Oval Spectacles
- False Shaded Spectacles
- False Classic Spectacles
- Rose-colored Spectacles
Find a Calamity Salvager in Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, or Ul’dah. The old items were not removed: an eligible item in your inventory, or one obtained through trading or the Market Board, can still be used to acquire its corresponding Facewear. This exchange is for those four legacy items; it is distinct from using a post-7.0 The Faces We Wear unlock item.

Each glasses style has its own unlock item
Do not assume that one item unlocks every pair or that every style comes from the same vendor or activity. Official Patch 7.1 item listings name distinct unlock items for several styles:
- The Faces We Wear – Pince-nez
- The Faces We Wear – Magnifiers
- The Faces We Wear – Brass Goggles
- The Faces We Wear – Under-rim Glasses
- The Faces We Wear – Oval Reading Glasses
The Patch 7.1 item list confirms these item-to-style pairings, but does not establish a current acquisition location for each item. For another example, the Eorzea Database lists The Faces We Wear – Slim Frame Glasses as Patch 7.56 miscellany used to acquire Pair Of Slim Frame Glasses. Check the current Eorzea Database entry for the exact item you need before relying on a vendor, duty, currency, or Market Board route; availability and requirements are style-specific. The catalog continued to grow after launch, with more Facewear added in Patch 7.55, according to the Patch 7.55 notes.
