Find a barber, select an unlocked hairstyle or beard, and pay the displayed fee. The barber at Basane Farm has an additional requirement: you must first free the location from the werewolf. Hair and beard menus can differ by edition and installed content, so treat the style lists below as documented examples rather than a guaranteed catalog for every release.
How the barber system works
Appearance changes are handled entirely by barbers in the game world. A barber opens separate hairstyle and beard menus, shows the choices available in your installation, and applies the selected look after you confirm the service and pay the fee. You do not unlock these looks through Geralt’s character level, a skill tree, an alchemy recipe, or a real-world grooming item.

The practical loop is simple: locate a barber, speak to the barber, choose either hair or facial hair, confirm the style, and leave once the change is applied. If a choice is missing, the usual explanation is that the barber’s menu is limited, your edition has different content, or the relevant location has not been unlocked.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat you can change
- Geralt’s hairstyle, including tied-back, loose, shaved-side and ponytail-based looks.
- Geralt’s beard and mustache configuration, including clean-shaven and several trimmed or fuller options.
The reference material does not establish one complete, official, version-by-version catalog. A style shown by one guide or one barber should therefore not be treated as proof that every barber offers it in every edition.

Step-by-step: change Geralt’s hair or beard
- Reach a barber. Use a barber you have already found in your current quest progress. Basane Farm is a confirmed example, but it is not established as the only barber location.
- Check whether the barber is available. Some barbers are present immediately; the Basane Farm barber appears only after the location has been freed from its werewolf.
- Start the service conversation. The barber’s interaction opens the appearance menu rather than a general equipment or inventory screen.
- Choose the category. Select the hairstyle menu for head hair or the beard menu for facial hair.
- Review the visible options. The in-game menu is the authoritative list for your copy of the game. Do not assume that a list from another edition or installed DLC matches it exactly.
- Confirm the selected look. Geralt’s appearance changes when you accept the service.
- Pay the barber fee. A secondary guide confirms that the selected service costs in-game currency, but no stable, versioned price list is established here. Check the amount shown in your own dialogue before confirming.
- Repeat if needed. Hair and beard are separate choices, so you can make one change and then open the other menu during the same visit if the barber offers both.
There is no need to equip an item, consume a potion, or wait for a cutscene after the transaction. If the appearance does not change, back out of the conversation, verify that the fee was accepted, and speak to the barber again.
Basane Farm: the conditional barber
Basane Farm is the clearest example of a barber with a location-specific unlock condition. The barber is described as a sheep shearer and does not appear as a functioning barber until Geralt has freed the location from the werewolf.
Unlock sequence
- Travel to Basane Farm when it is available in your world.
- Complete the objective that frees the location from the werewolf.
- Return to the farm after the area is safe.
- Look for the sheep shearer who now works as a barber and open the appearance menu.
If the barber is not present, the most likely issue is that the werewolf-related objective has not been completed or the area has not refreshed. Leave the immediate area, complete any remaining objective attached to freeing the location, then return and check again. The available Basane Farm menu is presented as a smaller excerpt in the reference material, so it should not be merged with the longer style list found in general barber references.
Documented hairstyle choices
The barber reference describes several hair configurations. Names can vary between guides or localizations; the visual descriptions below are more useful than treating any one label as universal.
| Hair look | Visual description | Availability note |
|---|---|---|
| Tied-back hair | Hair gathered loosely and tied behind Geralt’s head. | Documented as a barber choice; exact availability by edition is not established. |
| Shaved head with ponytail | Most of the head is shaved while a ponytail remains. | Listed in the reference menu; not guaranteed at every barber. |
| Long, loose hair | Long hair left hanging rather than tied. | Documented example; the current edition’s complete catalog is unverified. |
| Shorter loose hair | Loose hair with less length than the long version. | Documented example; menu labels may differ. |
| Shaved sides with short top and ponytail | Sides are shaved, with a short top section leading into a ponytail. | Documented example; do not assume every barber offers it. |
| Elven rebel cut | A distinctive cut associated with the elven-rebel style description. | Listed by the barber reference, subject to edition and installed-content differences. |
The safest way to identify a style is to use the barber’s preview and the exact name shown in your game. Screenshots or lists from another platform can be useful for recognition, but they are not a guarantee that the same option is installed or available at the same location.
Documented beard and mustache choices
Facial-hair options range from no facial hair to fuller beards, goatees, mustaches and sideburn combinations. The following descriptions reflect the documented reference list, not a promise that every item appears in one menu.
| Facial-hair look | Visual description | Availability note |
|---|---|---|
| Clean-shaven | No beard or mustache. | Listed as a barber option; the menu in your edition controls availability. |
| Fluffy beard | A fuller, less tightly trimmed beard. | Documented example; exact edition support is not established. |
| Neat goatee | A trimmed goatee-focused style. | Documented example; exact barber availability may vary. |
| Short-trimmed full beard | A full beard kept relatively short. | Documented example; not confirmed at every barber. |
| Goatee with short mustache | A goatee paired with a restrained mustache. | Documented example; labels can differ by localization. |
| Mutton chops | Prominent side facial hair with the chin area left comparatively clear. | Documented example; edition-specific availability is unverified. |
| Mustache with soul patch | A mustache with a small patch beneath the lower lip. | Documented example; do not infer universal availability. |
| Sideburns and mustache | Sideburns paired with a mustache. | Documented example; menu scope varies by barber or content. |
| Mustache with small ducktail | A mustache combined with a small pointed beard section. | Documented example; current-edition catalog remains unverified. |
Basane Farm is described with a shorter menu excerpt. That does not mean the farm barber is broken if it lacks an item listed in a broader barber guide; it may simply offer a different subset.
Does Geralt’s beard grow back?
A secondary guide reports that Geralt’s facial hair can grow over the course of in-game days after an appropriate beard option is selected. That establishes the possibility of growth, not a dependable number of hours or days for every version.
Do not plan a quest schedule around an exact regrowth timer. The available evidence does not specify a version-stable interval, and it does not fully establish whether behavior is identical in every current or remastered edition. If you want a particular length immediately, visit a barber and select it directly instead of waiting.
Practical expectations
- Growth is described in terms of in-game time, not real-world time.
- Sleeping, meditating or simply advancing quests may move the game clock, but an exact trigger interval is not confirmed here.
- If Geralt remains clean-shaven, do not assume a precise automatic return time; use the barber menu when you need a guaranteed appearance.
- A visual difference after several in-game days is consistent with the secondary report, but it should not be treated as a universal technical specification.
Beard and Hairstyle Set DLC
CD PROJEKT RED’s Patch 4.04 notice confirms the existence of a “Beard and Hairstyle Set” DLC. The notice records a fix for certain hairstyles from that set clipping through a Nilfgaardian helmet on previous-generation consoles. This confirms that the set contains in-game hairstyle assets and that those assets were affected by a platform-specific visual bug.
The patch notice does not provide current installation instructions for every platform. It also does not establish a complete, current list of the set’s options. A community forum description mentions six hairstyles and five beards, but that is user-submitted guidance and should not be presented as a verified count for all current or remastered editions.

Do not confuse the set with the expansions
Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are full expansions. CD PROJEKT RED’s official game information describes them separately and instructs players to update the game to install those expansions. The Beard and Hairstyle Set is distinct downloadable content referenced in the Patch 4.04 notes. Owning an expansion does not, by itself, prove that every hairstyle-set asset is installed.
How to handle a missing DLC style
- Check which edition and platform you are running.
- Confirm that the game is fully updated.
- Check the platform’s installed downloadable-content list for the Beard and Hairstyle Set, if your platform exposes one.
- Restart the game after installing or updating content.
- Visit a barber and compare the in-game menu with the options documented for your release.
Because a single official, current installation procedure covering every platform was not established, avoid assuming that one console’s steps apply to another. If the DLC is installed but a style is still absent, edition-specific availability or a different barber menu may explain the difference.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Edition and content differences
The available evidence does not provide a complete catalog for the 2026 remastered edition or a verified matrix comparing every original release, console generation and PC configuration. The differences that can be stated safely are narrower:
| Situation | What is established | What remains uncertain |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary barber visit | A barber presents hairstyle and beard choices and charges an in-game fee. | The exact menu at each location and in each edition. |
| Basane Farm | The barber appears after the location is freed from the werewolf. | Whether its smaller documented menu is identical across releases. |
| Beard and Hairstyle Set | Patch 4.04 confirms the DLC and a hairstyle clipping fix. | Current installation steps and a universally valid style count. |
| Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine | These are separate expansions that require game updates. | Whether owning either expansion changes a particular barber’s menu. |
| Beard growth | A secondary guide describes growth over in-game days. | An exact timer and identical behavior across current editions. |
When sources conflict, use the barber menu in your own save as the final authority. It reflects your installed content, platform, language and edition more accurately than a general list.

Troubleshooting missing barbers and styles
The Basane Farm barber is not there
- Verify that the werewolf-related objective has actually been completed, not merely started.
- Move away from the farm and return after the area has had time to refresh.
- Check whether another active objective still requires you to free the location.
- Reload a save from after the objective completion if the NPC remains absent.
A style shown online is missing
- Confirm that you are checking the correct category: hair and beard are separate menus.
- Compare your edition and installed downloadable content with the guide you are using.
- Visit another confirmed barber; the documented lists are not proof that every barber shares one identical menu.
- Update the game before concluding that content is unavailable.
The game charges a fee but the look seems unchanged
- Inspect Geralt in a well-lit area; some short facial-hair changes are subtle.
- Reopen the barber menu and verify the selected preview.
- Reload a save made before the transaction if the visual state appears stuck.
You are waiting for facial hair to return
There is no reliable, version-specific regrowth time established here. Advance in-game time if you wish, but use a barber when you need an immediate, predictable result.
A fast decision guide
| Your goal | Best action |
|---|---|
| Change appearance immediately | Visit any available barber and select the desired menu option. |
| Use the Basane Farm barber | Free the farm from the werewolf, then return to the sheep shearer. |
| Find a style listed in a DLC guide | Check your edition, update the game and verify the Beard and Hairstyle Set is installed. |
| Restore facial hair after shaving | Wait through in-game days if you want to observe growth, but use a barber for a guaranteed style. |
| Resolve conflicting style lists | Trust the options displayed by the barber in your own installation. |
What is and is not required
Required
- Access to a barber.
- Enough in-game currency to pay the displayed service fee.
- Completion of the werewolf objective if you are using the Basane Farm barber.
Not required
- A particular character level.
- A combat ability or crafting recipe.
- Real-world shaving or grooming equipment.
- A specific expansion merely to open the ordinary barber interface.
The only location-specific requirement established in the available material is Basane Farm’s werewolf condition. Other barbers may have their own quest or world-state requirements, but an exhaustive official list of those conditions is not established.
Bottom line for choosing Geralt’s look
Start with a normal barber if you simply want a new haircut or beard. Treat Basane Farm as a special case: clear the werewolf before expecting its barber to appear. Use the in-game preview and price as the final authority, because style menus and downloadable-content availability can differ by edition. The Beard and Hairstyle Set is confirmed by Patch 4.04, but platform-wide installation instructions and a universal option count are not. Beard growth may occur over in-game days, yet no exact, edition-safe timer is established, so a barber remains the dependable way to obtain a specific look.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I unlock every listed hairstyle at one barber?
No universal single-barber catalog is established. The documented references combine broader barber choices with a smaller Basane Farm excerpt, and menus can differ by edition or installed content. Check the options shown at each barber in your own game.
Is Basane Farm the only barber location in The Witcher 3?
It is a confirmed barber example, but the available material does not establish an exhaustive list of every barber location. Do not treat Basane Farm as the only possible place to change Geralt’s appearance.
How much does a haircut or beard change cost?
The service requires in-game currency, but no stable, versioned price list is established. The exact fee appears in the barber dialogue before you confirm the change.
Does owning Blood and Wine automatically unlock the Beard and Hairstyle Set?
No such automatic entitlement is established. Blood and Wine is a separate expansion, while the Beard and Hairstyle Set is separate downloadable content referenced in Patch 4.04.
