Forge the High Rank armor piece whose appearance you want. PlayStation states that any High Rank armor piece you forge can be applied as layered armor. The cited guidance confirms this on a piece-by-piece basis; it does not say that forging one α or β version automatically unlocks the appearance of the other.

Equip it from a tent
- Go to a tent.
- Select Appearance > Equipment Appearance.
- Choose the forged High Rank armor piece as the layered appearance for the relevant equipment slot.
The layered look does not replace your active armor’s stats, bonuses, or Decorations. You can use the appearance you prefer while retaining the performance of the armor you have equipped.
Understand α and β before choosing a piece
High Rank α and β armor are functional armor variants with different build tradeoffs, not simply interchangeable names for a cosmetic. According to PlayStation’s guide, α pieces have more built-in bonuses but fewer Decoration slots; β pieces have fewer preset bonuses and more Decoration slots. The variants can also provide different Group Skills. Choose the functional version for its skills and slot layout, then use layered appearance separately. The official description does not establish whether each variant must be forged separately to unlock its individual look, so check the Equipment Appearance menu rather than assuming one variant unlocks both.
Claim the Guild Knight Set preorder bonus
The Guild Knight Set is a separately documented layered-armor bonus, not part of the general High Rank forging route. Capcom Support’s article, published March 2, 2025, says the preorder bonus must first be claimed from the Support Desk Palico in a village.
- Make sure the preorder content is installed and appears as claimable under Add-ons.
- In a village, speak to the Support Desk Palico and select Claim Content.
- Go to a tent and open Appearance Menu > Equipment Appearance to equip the Guild Knight Set.
If the set does not appear, confirm the add-on is installed and claimable, then complete the Support Desk Palico claim step. Capcom’s instructions are specific to this preorder bonus; they do not establish the unlock method for other special or event armor.
