The interrogation uncovers a broad area around the camp and gives you a lead toward a random point of interest. Simply walking into unexplored terrain does not clear the fog automatically.

What “unlocking the map” means in Soulmask
Soulmask begins with only the southwest portion of the world visible. The rest of the world is covered by fog of war, so opening the map does not show the full terrain or its points of interest. The intended way to reveal more is to obtain information from a scout rather than to uncover every tile by walking through it.

This creates a short reconnaissance loop: travel toward the fog boundary, locate a scout camp, subdue the camp’s Barbarian Scout, and use the special interaction that turns the scout’s knowledge into map data. A successful interrogation reveals the surrounding section and indicates a point of interest somewhere in that newly uncovered region.

That comment describes the early-game experience, not a developer guarantee. You do need to travel through a limited amount of unrevealed territory before the first camp becomes available, but the fog is not intended to remain a permanent blind-navigation problem.
Step-by-step: reveal your first section
- Open the map near the edge of the revealed southwest area. Move outward from the starting region until the visible terrain meets the fog. You do not need to wander indefinitely; the relevant camp is positioned near a fog boundary.
- Look for an eye icon. When you are close enough, an eye symbol appears on the map to mark a scout camp. If you do not see the icon, move along the boundary and reopen the map periodically. The icon is the key navigation clue for this process.
- Travel to the marked camp. Enter the camp and identify the Barbarian Scout. Other camp members may be present, but they are not the target that carries the map information.
- Reduce the scout’s health carefully. Fight the Barbarian Scout until the special interaction becomes available. A community explanation places the trigger at roughly 20% health, but that figure is an approximate player report, not a documented, guaranteed threshold. Treat the interaction prompt as the reliable signal rather than trying to hit an exact percentage.
- Choose Deter instead of a normal capture. When the special interaction appears, select Deter. A normal capture does not perform the map-information step described here.
- Select the interrogation or map-information action. After deterring the scout, use the option that asks for information. Completing that interrogation reveals a large local portion of the map and supplies a point-of-interest lead.
- Open the map and inspect the new information. The revealed area is centered around the camp, while the point-of-interest lead is randomized. It is a direction for exploration, not a promise that every nearby location has been permanently catalogued.
How to find the correct camp
Use the fog boundary as your search line
The eye icon is associated with a scout camp near the boundary between known terrain and fog. Start from the southwest section you already have and move toward an unexplored edge. Once the icon appears, follow it instead of pushing farther into the fog at random.
Reopen the map while moving
The camp marker is easier to use if you check the map in short intervals. Walk a little, pause, and look for the eye symbol. This avoids spending a long time in unexplored territory after you have already passed the relevant camp’s approach.

Do not confuse ordinary enemies with the target
A camp can contain several Barbarian enemies. The map-information interaction belongs to the Barbarian Scout. You may have to deal with other members to reach it safely, but defeating a non-scout does not replace the interrogation step.
Handling the Barbarian Scout encounter
Lower health without finishing the fight
Your goal is to make the special interaction available, not to kill the scout. Because the frequently cited “about 20%” value comes from a player explanation, it should be treated as a practical estimate. Stop attacking as soon as the game presents the special interaction prompt; continuing to strike can remove the opportunity by defeating the target.
Choose Deter for map information
The choice of Deter is the important branch in this procedure. The map reveal comes from deterring the scout and then selecting the interrogation/map-information action. If you choose a different interaction, you should not assume the map will be uncovered through that alternative.
Confirm that the interrogation completed
After selecting the information option, open the map again. You should see a substantially larger revealed section around the camp and a lead pointing toward a point of interest. The cited guides do not quantify the exact area in tiles or radius, so the visible map result is the appropriate confirmation.

What the reveal gives you—and what it does not
- It reveals a broad local area: the surroundings of the scout camp become visible rather than remaining covered by fog.
- It provides a point-of-interest lead: the interrogation indicates one location to investigate, but the lead is random.
- It does not reveal the whole world: unexplored regions elsewhere remain hidden and require additional scouting or ordinary exploration.
- It is not automatic discovery: entering fog on foot alone does not trigger the same map-information reveal.
- It is not a fixed-size promise: available accounts describe the result as a large section without specifying an exact radius or percentage.
Troubleshooting when the map does not unlock
No eye icon appears
Make sure you are actually near the edge of the initially revealed southwest region. The icon is tied to a scout camp near the fog boundary, so searching deep inside already visible terrain is unlikely to help. Move along the boundary and check the map again rather than running in a straight line through the fog.
You found a camp but cannot trigger the interaction
Verify that the enemy is the Barbarian Scout, not another camp member. Then lower its health further while avoiding a killing blow. The approximate health figure reported by players is not a precise requirement; the appearance of the interaction prompt is the useful test.
The scout died before you could interrogate it
The reveal procedure depends on the scout remaining available for the special interaction. If it dies, the immediate attempt is over. On a later attempt, use lighter attacks as the scout’s health gets low and stop as soon as the interaction becomes selectable.
You used the wrong interaction
The map-information sequence specifically uses Deter, followed by interrogation. A normal capture is a different outcome. If you selected another option, look for another scout camp and repeat the process using the deter-and-interrogate branch.

The map changed, but you cannot find the point of interest
The interrogation supplies a lead to a random point of interest, not a guaranteed object immediately beside the camp. Zoom out and inspect the newly revealed region for the lead, then follow it as a navigation objective. The location database counts described below are separate from this in-game reveal and should not be used to infer where your particular lead will appear.

Third-party map tools are optional planning aids. They can help you track locations after you discover them, but they are not required to unlock Soulmask’s map and do not replace the Barbarian Scout interaction.
One Soulmask-focused map service lists 221 known locations across two maps on a page identified as “Soulmask.th.gl, 2026.” A companion TH.GL page advertises 35,602 map locations across two maps. Those figures describe the providers’ database coverage, not the amount of terrain revealed by one interrogation. Differences between the counts reflect the services’ own location databases and should not be read as a measurement of Soulmask’s fog-of-war system.

Use an external map after the core procedure, for example when planning a route from the newly revealed section or recording discovered camps. Keep the in-game map as the authority for what your character has actually uncovered.

Planning the run to your first scout camp
Start from known terrain
Because only the southwest portion is visible at the beginning, begin your expedition from that known area. This gives you a clear retreat route if the camp encounter goes badly and reduces the amount of blind travel before you can search for the eye icon.

The eye-icon method narrows the search. Instead of attempting to chart every direction, follow the edge of the revealed map until a scout camp marker appears. This is the practical meaning of the community description that the initial blind period is short.
Keep the objective focused
You do not need to clear every enemy in the camp or catalogue every nearby location before the map unlocks. Identify the Barbarian Scout, create the interaction opportunity, choose Deter, and interrogate it. Additional exploration can happen after the new area is visible.
Version and source limitations
The core procedure is supported by a June 2024 Dot Esports guide and a January 2025 Steam Community report. Player-facing labels, scout behavior, or health thresholds can change in later patches. In particular, the roughly 20% health figure is not documented as a fixed value, so it should never be treated as a guaranteed numerical requirement.
The external map counts and feature descriptions above were current to pages crawled or updated in September 2026. They are third-party database figures and can change independently of Soulmask’s game patches. They also do not establish how much territory a single interrogation reveals.
