In Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, you unlock the Rope Dart during Sequence 3 by completing the main-story mission “Sugarcane and Its Yields.” That is a major change from the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, where the weapon did not become available until Sequence 11.
Keep following the main story until Sequence 3, start “Sugarcane and Its Yields,” and finish it. The Rope Dart then becomes available as a ranged combat and stealth tool. Ubisoft describes it as a way to pull enemies, interrupt attacks and drag enemies down from rooftops.

The short answer
- Game: Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced
- Unlock point: Sequence 3
- Mission: “Sugarcane and Its Yields”
- How to get it: Progress through the main story and complete that mission
- Upgrade limit: The Rope Dart can be improved up to three times with money, crafting materials and trade goods
Ubisoft confirms the Sequence 3 timing. PC Gamer identifies “Sugarcane and Its Yields” as the mission associated with the unlock. The available descriptions do not identify a separate shop purchase, optional challenge or precise dialogue prompt that must be selected inside the mission.

| Version | Unlock sequence | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Black Flag Resynced | Sequence 3 | You receive the tool early in the campaign, shortly after the opening progression. |
| Original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag | Sequence 11 | The same tool was held back until much later in the story. |
Resynced’s earlier timing is intentional rather than a reward for carrying over an old save. Ubisoft’s overview specifically presents the move from Sequence 11 to Sequence 3 as one of the changes in the updated release. If you remember waiting until Sequence 11 in the original game, that expectation no longer applies.

Step-by-step: getting the Rope Dart
- Continue the main story. Complete the required story memories in order. The Rope Dart is tied to campaign progression, so replaying earlier activities or searching the world for a hidden pickup will not replace the Sequence 3 unlock.
- Reach Sequence 3. Check the sequence heading in your progress or pause menu so you know you are in the correct part of the campaign. The important threshold is Sequence 3, not a particular amount of money, a ship upgrade or a side-activity total.
- Find “Sugarcane and Its Yields.” This is the mission PC Gamer associates with the Rope Dart. Launch it from the normal story marker and follow the mission as presented by the game.
- Finish the mission. The sources identify the mission as the unlock point but do not specify an exact line of dialogue, chest or mid-mission interaction. Do not abandon the mission while waiting for a separate equipment prompt; complete the story memory and allow its results to apply.
- Use the newly available tool. After completion, open the weapon or equipment selection interface and look for the Rope Dart alongside your other combat options. The exact button layout depends on your platform and control settings, so use the on-screen prompt rather than a fixed controller instruction from another version.
You do not need a physical rope-dart accessory, a special controller or an external purchase to trigger the unlock. It is an in-game story reward.
What is known about “Sugarcane and Its Yields”
The mission name matters because it gives you a reliable point to watch for the unlock instead of relying only on a sequence number. Ubisoft establishes the early Sequence 3 timing, while PC Gamer supplies the specific mission association.
Available descriptions do not establish the exact moment within the mission when the weapon is added. That means a guide cannot responsibly promise that it appears after one particular cutscene, objective or conversation. If the weapon is not visible while the mission is still in progress, finish the memory first and check your equipment afterward.

What the Rope Dart does
The Rope Dart is more than a long-range damage option. Ubisoft’s combat description gives it three connected roles: moving an enemy, stopping an incoming attack and creating an opening for a follow-up.
Pull an enemy toward you
The basic use is to hook an enemy at range and pull that target toward your position. This lets you displace an opponent before committing to close combat. Pulling can separate one enemy from a group, bring a target into a tighter space or remove the distance that prevents a melee follow-up.
Because the tool changes the enemy’s position, it is useful for positioning as much as for damage. A target pulled away from nearby guards can be dealt with separately; a target pulled toward an obstacle may be easier to control. Treat the Rope Dart as a setup tool when a direct sword approach would expose you to several attackers.
Interrupt an incoming attack
Ubisoft also describes the Rope Dart as a way to interrupt an incoming attack. Use it when an enemy is beginning an attack that you do not want to absorb or evade normally. The interruption can stop the immediate threat and give you time to reposition.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThis is especially relevant against ranged pressure. Rather than allowing a distant attacker to dictate your movement, use the Rope Dart to break the attack sequence and regain initiative. Watch the enemy’s animation and use the tool as the attack begins; firing randomly after the projectile or strike has already landed does not provide the same defensive value.
Drag enemies down from rooftops
Rooftop enemies are another specific use called out by Ubisoft. The Rope Dart can yank an enemy down from a roof, turning a difficult elevated target into a ground-level encounter. That makes it valuable during stealth approaches where climbing to the target would expose you or take too long.

Pulling a rooftop guard also changes the patrol layout. Before using it, check where the enemy will land and whether nearby guards can see the result. The tool gives you a way to remove elevation, but the safest follow-up still depends on where you perform the pull.
Counter ranged attacks and create a takedown opening
Ubisoft’s combat breakdown says a Rope Dart counter breaks the target’s defence and creates an opening for a Hidden Blade takedown or another combo. The same description says this counter can work against bosses.
That makes the Rope Dart a defensive opener rather than merely a method of dragging ordinary guards. Against an enemy using a ranged attack, wait for the attack window, perform the counter and then choose the follow-up that fits your position. A Hidden Blade takedown is one option; continuing with another combo is also supported by the game’s combat design.
Boss encounters require the same caution as other fights: the counter creates an opening, but it does not mean every encounter ends immediately. Use the opening to gain control, then continue the fight according to the enemy’s remaining health and behavior.
Upgrading the Rope Dart
The Rope Dart has an upgrade path after you obtain it. Ubisoft says it can be improved up to three times by spending money and using crafting materials and trade goods.
| Upgrade information | What is established |
|---|---|
| Maximum number of improvements | Up to three |
| Currency involved | Money |
| Materials involved | Crafting materials and trade goods |
| Exact quantities | Not stated in the available official overview |
| Named material list | Not stated in the available official overview |
Since the official overview does not provide a complete quantity list, do not rely on a universal shopping list copied from another edition or difficulty setting. When an upgrade is available, use the in-game upgrade screen as the authority for the current requirement. It will show whether you are short on money, a crafting component or a trade good.
How to make the early unlock useful
Use it to control the first target
When several enemies are close together, the Rope Dart can start the engagement by moving one target instead of forcing you into the center of the group. Pulling one guard toward you can shorten the fight and reduce the number of simultaneous attacks you must watch.
Use elevation against rooftop guards
If a rooftop enemy is preventing a stealth route, consider the down-pull before climbing. The tool is particularly useful when the roof is guarded or when approaching from above would put you in view of another patrol. Confirm that the landing area will not immediately reveal you to a second group.
Save the counter for dangerous ranged pressure
Ranged enemies can force you out of cover or interrupt an otherwise controlled fight. The Rope Dart counter gives you a way to break that pressure and transition directly into a takedown or combo. Practice the timing on ordinary ranged attackers before depending on it in a boss encounter.

Plan upgrades around actual use
Because the tool can be upgraded three times, you do not have to treat the first available improvement as mandatory. Open the upgrade screen, read the listed cost and decide whether the next improvement supports the way you are playing. A stealth-focused player may value reliable rooftop control, while an aggressive player may prioritize the combat openings created by counters.

Troubleshooting an apparent missing unlock
You are still before Sequence 3
The Rope Dart is not available at the start of Resynced. Continue the main story until the sequence marker changes to Sequence 3. Looking for it in earlier free-roam sections will only create confusion because the weapon is tied to the campaign milestone.
You reached Sequence 3 but have not completed the mission
Sequence 3 is the timing window, while “Sugarcane and Its Yields” is the mission associated with the reward. If you have only entered the sequence or started the memory, complete it before checking the equipment screen.
You expected a specific prompt
The available sources do not document a precise dialogue choice, cutscene or button press that grants the Rope Dart. Follow the mission normally, complete it and then check your equipment. A missing prompt during the memory is not, by itself, evidence that the unlock failed.
You are comparing the wrong version
Guides written for the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag may tell you to wait for Sequence 11. That is correct for the original timing but outdated for Resynced. In the updated game, the relevant progression point is Sequence 3.

Unlocking and upgrading are separate steps. You receive access through the story mission; improvements require money, crafting materials and trade goods. If an upgrade is unavailable, read the current in-game requirement rather than assuming that the unlock itself is incomplete.
Resynced versus the original: the practical difference
The earlier unlock changes how soon the Rope Dart can shape your play style. In the original release, players had to progress to Sequence 11 before building tactics around it. Resynced gives you access in Sequence 3, so pulling, rooftop control and ranged counters become part of the campaign much earlier.
The change does not mean you should abandon the other combat tools. The Rope Dart works best as a complement: use it to create distance, remove elevation, interrupt a ranged attack or open a Hidden Blade takedown, then switch to the option that suits the follow-up. Its value comes from controlling the encounter rather than replacing every other weapon.
