Rockstar currently schedules the game’s release for November 19, 2026, with digital pre-orders expected to begin preloading at local midnight on November 12. Until then, these are the standard PS5 update steps and official fixes to use if a download or installation fails when the game becomes available.
When can you download or update GTA VI on PS5?
Rockstar’s platform and edition information, last updated August 18, 2026, lists GTA VI for PS5 and gives November 19, 2026 as its scheduled release date. Rockstar says digital pre-orders may begin preloading at local midnight on November 12, 2026. These dates and availability are subject to change; check Rockstar’s current platform and edition information for updates.
The announced physical Standard Edition is a box containing a download code, not a disc. Rockstar says the code can be used to support preload on November 12. Code redemption is tied to the platform account’s region, so Rockstar recommends purchasing and playing from a retailer in the same country as that account. The reviewed official information does not state GTA VI’s PS5 install size or document a game-specific download bug.
How to check for a PS5 game update
- On the PS5 home screen, highlight the game or app.
- Press the controller’s Options button and choose Check for Update.
- If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts.
PlayStation says launching a game or app automatically updates it to the newest version available. To configure automatic downloads and installation, follow PlayStation’s automatic-update instructions. For rest-mode updating, the console must remain connected to the internet while in rest mode.

Fix a PS5 update that will not start or finish
- Go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection and check the result.
- Restart the PS5 and try the update again.
- Install the latest PS5 system software.
- If the update still fails, delete the game and reinstall it from your Game Library or disc, where applicable.
- If the problem continues, use PlayStation’s Safe Mode instructions to select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. Do not interrupt system operations. Contact PlayStation Support if the official steps do not resolve the problem.
Use the error code shown on screen to choose the relevant PlayStation error-code article, rather than treating every failed update as a network issue. For example, CE-120706-6 identifies a game update installation failure, NP-102947-3 points to an internet connection too slow or unstable for an update, and CE-100028-1 indicates insufficient free SSD space.
Fix a download that stops or fails
Error CE-107928-7
PlayStation’s guidance is to delete the affected game from the home screen and try downloading it again. Do not turn off the console during the download. Test the connection at Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. If needed, reset the network settings and power off the modem or router for five minutes before restarting it. Follow the current CE-107928-7 instructions.

Error CE-107527-2
Restart the console, try a wired connection if possible, and reconfigure the network connection if needed. On Wi-Fi, move the PS5 closer to the router and reduce interference; restart the router after leaving it off for five minutes. Free up space when a download or update will not fit
For error CE-107872-5, PlayStation identifies insufficient free space on console storage as the cause. Check Settings > Storage, remove content you no longer need, and retry. The same basic check applies if an update reports that it cannot download because there is not enough room. Rockstar has not published a GTA VI install-size requirement in the official information reviewed, so do not rely on unofficial size estimates as a confirmed requirement. See the CE-107872-5 article.

Fix content that will not install
Error CE-107891-6
PlayStation advises uninstalling the problematic content and reinstalling it. Open Settings > Storage, select the storage location, delete the affected game, then reinstall it. If installation still fails, try again later. Follow the current CE-107891-6 instructions.
Error CE-120706-6
This code indicates a game update installation failure. Use the CE-120706-6 support page for its current, code-specific steps.
