Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →You can change a live YouTube broadcast’s title or description without stopping the encoder when YouTube exposes those fields for that stream. But those edits update the broadcast as a whole; to label each podcast episode inside one continuous stream, add the episode name to the video output as a title card or lower third.
First, identify what you want to update
“Update an episode” can mean changing the live broadcast’s YouTube title or description, or showing the name of the next podcast episode as the program moves from one recording to another. These are different tasks:
- Broadcast metadata: changes the title or description attached to the live broadcast overall.
- On-screen episode label: displays an individual episode name in the video itself, usually as a title card or lower third.
Changing the broadcast title does not automatically create an episode-by-episode title track. For a continuous feed containing multiple episodes, keep a stable overall broadcast title and put each episode name in the program output. You can also list the sequence in the description.
Change the live broadcast’s title or description in YouTube Studio
YouTube’s documented metadata-editing route applies to encoder or mobile streams, not webcam streams. The exact controls can vary with stream type and state, so use the fields YouTube actually makes available for the active broadcast.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Keep your encoder or other live feed running.
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live and locate the active broadcast in Live Control Room.
- Open the broadcast’s stream settings or details. If YouTube shows Edit for the title or description, open it, make the change, and save.
- Check the live watch page to confirm what viewers see. YouTube does not promise a fixed time for changes to appear.
YouTube describes choosing metadata when creating or scheduling a stream, or editing it from the stream settings page. It does not guarantee that every field can be changed for every stream type and state. If the field you need is missing, the reviewed documentation does not establish a universal workaround. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
Show each episode name while the same stream continues
To tell viewers which podcast episode is playing, add its name to the encoded picture rather than relying on a broadcast metadata edit. Use your encoder’s scene or graphic workflow to show a title card between episodes or a lower third while an episode plays. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance covers encoder overlays, but does not prescribe a particular graphics workflow or promise a built-in episode-title feature. See YouTube’s live-streaming guide.

Automate a title or description change with the YouTube API
For a workflow that updates broadcast metadata programmatically, the YouTube Live Streaming API’s liveBroadcasts.update operation accepts snippet.title and snippet.description. The operation updates the broadcast resource, not an episode label embedded in the video. It requires authorization.
Take care with partial updates: the API documentation warns that mutable properties in the requested parts can be overwritten or removed if omitted. Include the values you intend to preserve, inspect the API response, and verify the result on the live watch page. Other broadcast properties can have stricter status rules, so do not assume every setting remains editable once a stream is underway. Consult the current LiveBroadcasts: update API reference.

Restream says you can edit stream details in its interface while live, but warns that some platforms may not reflect the change.
