To run a 24/7 crystal singing bowl stream with OBS, capture the bowls through a microphone and audio interface or preamp, connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream with its stream URL and key, then keep the computer, network and audio path running while you monitor stream health. YouTube does not guarantee a complete replay of one continuous 24-hour broadcast: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, so keep a local recording if the archive matters.

Before you set up the stream

Confirm YouTube Live is enabled

Your channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is the channel’s first livestream, activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. See YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance.

Plan the audio and visual source

OBS can send audio from external hardware such as a microphone and preamp or audio interface. The right microphone and placement depend on the bowl, room and equipment; YouTube’s encoder guidance does not establish a best microphone, bowl size, placement or room treatment for this sound. Choose a capture path that appears as an input on the computer, and test the actual bowl sound through the complete chain.

For a long broadcast, use a stable visual, such as a fixed camera view or static image, and make sure you have the rights to both the audio and video. A live camera view is optional; the critical requirement is that OBS receives the audio you intend viewers to hear.

Set up the audio and OBS scene

Route the singing bowl into OBS

  1. Connect the microphone to a compatible audio interface or preamp, if your equipment needs one, then connect that device to the computer.
  2. In OBS, add or select the corresponding audio input in the scene’s audio sources. Play the bowl and check that the OBS meter responds without clipping or unwanted noise.
  3. Set up audio monitoring only if you need it, and check the routing to avoid feedback. Listen to a test recording or private preview rather than relying on the meter alone.
  4. Add the visual source you plan to use and confirm the scene stays stable. Test with audio and movement similar to the eventual broadcast, as YouTube recommends.

YouTube’s published encoder guidance includes CBR video, AAC or MP3 audio, and 44.1 kHz for stereo audio. Choose settings suitable for your resolution and connection, then confirm OBS’s current controls and YouTube’s stream-health feedback. Those general recommendations do not establish one ideal bitrate or resolution for every computer, network or bowl stream. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.

Create a YouTube encoder stream and connect OBS

  1. Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a livestream using the encoder option. Set the title, visibility and other broadcast details in Live Control Room. The exact controls can change over time.
  2. In the stream’s settings, copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it publicly. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in OBS. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
  3. In OBS, open the stream settings, select YouTube or the applicable custom service option, and enter the stream URL and key. Save the settings.
  4. Start streaming in OBS. Wait for the incoming feed and preview in YouTube Live Control Room, then check the stream-health messages.
  5. Before making the stream public, verify the sound and picture in the preview and confirm that the watch page works on the channel and on a mobile device.

For a first test, use the intended microphone, bowl, scene and network rather than a silent placeholder. That lets you catch problems such as a muted input, feedback, distortion or an unstable connection before viewers arrive.

Keep the broadcast running and monitor it

A 24/7 stream depends on the whole chain: OBS, the computer, power, audio hardware, internet connection and YouTube ingest. YouTube advises creators to monitor audio and video quality, watch stream-health messages and, when recording locally, verify that the archive file continues to grow. These checks help identify a fault; they do not guarantee uninterrupted operation or automatic recovery.

  • Keep OBS open and check that the correct scene and audio input remain active.
  • Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and listen for changes in the sound, not just whether OBS shows an audio meter.
  • If you record locally, confirm the recording is actually growing and that the computer has enough storage for the planned duration.
  • For power resilience, a UPS for the computer and network equipment is an optional measure, not a guarantee against outages.

Operating-system sleep settings, OBS restart behavior and other automation depend on your specific versions and setup. Test the complete system for an extended period before relying on it, and do not assume a restart setting prevents every interruption. YouTube’s streaming guidance covers monitoring and encoder operation.

Understand YouTube’s 24-hour replay limits

Do not assume that a single continuous 24-hour broadcast will become a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube also warns that DVR pause-and-rewind availability can be limited or unavailable for very long streams, including streams longer than 12 hours. Consult YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance and DVR guidance.

If viewers need a replay, make a local recording and plan how you will divide, store and publish the material; verify the resulting files and YouTube archive rather than assuming they exist. A local recording is a backup, not proof that YouTube will archive the entire live event.

Troubleshooting common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
YouTube does not offer livestreaming Verification, a recent livestream restriction or first-time activation may be incomplete. Check channel eligibility and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
OBS shows no bowl audio The wrong input is selected, the interface is disconnected, or the source is muted. Confirm the microphone/interface connection, selected OBS input and meter response; test the sound at the computer input.
Audio is distorted, noisy or feeds back Gain, room noise, microphone placement or monitoring routing may be unsuitable. Test the actual bowl at the intended position, adjust the capture chain and disable or reroute monitoring that causes feedback.
Live Control Room does not receive the OBS feed The stream URL or key may be wrong, or OBS may not be sending. Recheck the URL and key in YouTube and OBS, start the encoder, and review YouTube’s stream-health messages.
The broadcast stops unexpectedly A failure in power, computer, network, OBS or YouTube ingest can interrupt the chain. Check each component and the stream-health messages. A monitored local recording can preserve audio/video already captured, but no setup here guarantees continuous uptime.
The 24-hour replay is missing or incomplete YouTube may not archive a stream exceeding 12 hours; DVR may also be limited. Check local recordings and plan future broadcasts around YouTube’s stated long-stream limits.

Or let it run in the cloud
