To upgrade all four swords in Black Ops 6 Zombies’ Citadelle des Morts, claim the matching Bastard Sword from its knight statue, then complete its individual quest: Dragon for Caliburn, Stag for Durendal, Raven for Balmung, or Lion for Solais. Caliburn requires three fire runs, Durendal three charged Lightning Rods, Balmung a match-specific dial puzzle and three portal feeds, and Solais Parasite charges followed by a four-symbol sequence.
Before you start: get a Bastard Sword
The Bastard Sword is a dedicated melee weapon, so it does not replace your primary or secondary weapon. Activision’s Citadelle des Morts map guide describes revealing Pack-a-Punch, collecting a sword piece dropped by an enemy, and taking it to a statue in the Entrance Hall. Detailed quest guides describe bringing a Stamp to the matching knight statue in the Dining Hall. Follow the route available in your match; the sources do not establish a fixed round number for starting these quests.
Each statue’s animal emblem identifies the sword:
- Dragon: Caliburn, fire
- Stag: Durendal, lightning
- Raven: Balmung, void
- Lion: Solais, light
After claiming a sword, complete its quest to turn it into the corresponding elemental Wonder Weapon.

How to get Caliburn: Dragon’s Fire
Caliburn’s quest sends you between the dragon statue and three Aether-fire braziers. Carrying a fire charge drains your health, so make the return trip promptly. The official map guide places the braziers at the Ramparts, the Nature Path entrance, and Town Square.
- Take the Dragon knight’s Bastard Sword to the dragon statue and interact with it.
- Find and activate a brazier at one of the three locations: the Ramparts, Nature Path entrance, or Town Square.
- Carry the Aether fire back to the dragon statue and deposit it before your health runs out.
- Repeat the run for the other two braziers. Melee kills while carrying fire restore a little health, according to Activision’s map guide.
- After all three charges, claim Caliburn.
The guides use differing directional descriptions for the braziers, so use the named map areas as your landmarks rather than relying on a left/right callout that may depend on your approach.

How to get Durendal: Stag of the Storms
Durendal requires three Lightning Rods and three successful charges at an urn on the cannon-side Ramparts. One rod comes from a fuse box and requires a weapon with Dead Wire; the other two are found near Deadshot Daiquiri and dropped by a zombie.
- Collect the rod near Deadshot Daiquiri.
- Equip or use a weapon with the Dead Wire ammunition mod and shoot the fuse box near Speed Cola to release another rod.
- Kill zombies until one drops the third rod.
- Place all three rods in the urn or vase on the Ramparts near the cannon.
- When the storm event begins, kill nearby zombies with the Stag sword until it glows with electricity.
- Strike the urn with the charged sword. Repeat the charge-and-strike sequence until all three rods have been charged, then claim Durendal.
Look around the cannon-side Ramparts for the urn; route descriptions vary by nearby landmark, and a single directional cue may not match your orientation.

How to get Balmung: Raven’s Shadow
Balmung’s dial solution depends on the Antiquity item in your match. Find that item in the Alchemical Lab/library area, inspect what it depicts, and pair its zodiac sign with the corresponding elemental symbol on the tavern-cellar dial. Do not assume there is one fixed answer for every match.
- Find the Antiquity item in the Alchemical Lab/library area. Its type and location can vary; reported examples include a horn, jaw bone, fish fossil, scorpion fossil, and double raven skull.
- Take the Raven sword and the item to the dial in the tavern cellar.
- Rotate the dial to match the item’s zodiac sign with its elemental symbol.
- Complete the portal sequence by guiding the purple orbs into each portal as it appears. The portals appear at cellar/floor level and upstairs around the tavern.
- After all three portal stages, retrieve Balmung from the dial.
The item visible in your current match is the key to choosing the dial combination. A memorized combination from another match may not work.

How to get Solais: Lion of Light
Solais uses glowing Parasites to charge the Lion sword, which you then use to open the lion-marked door near Speed Cola. The room beyond has a four-symbol shooting sequence.
- Take the Lion knight’s Bastard Sword and wait for glowing Parasites to appear.
- Melee a glowing Parasite to charge the sword.
- Strike the lion-marked door near Speed Cola with the charged blade.
- Repeat the Parasite charge and door strike until the door opens.
- Place the sword on the pedestal inside and note the symbol it displays.
- Shoot the corresponding moving symbol around the room. Continue following the symbols displayed by the pedestal, in order, until all four are completed.
- Retrieve Solais.
Which sword should you upgrade first?
There is no universally best order established by the walkthroughs. Choose based on the route challenge you would rather handle first:

What each upgraded sword does
Blizzard’s Season 01 Reloaded announcement describes the Bastard Sword as upgradeable into four elemental Wonder Weapons, each with a unique special attack and a passive effect that powers up over time. Its descriptions are:
Quick Recap
- Caliburn: Dragon’s Fire: “Create a fiery maelstrom of burning undead flesh, setting zombies alight and summoning an immense fireball.”
- Durendal: Stag of the Storms: “Summon thunderous power from the skies, discharging voltaic power to stun and stagger, before an electrical beam serves up a severe searing.”
- Balmung: Raven’s Shadow: “Cast your rotting foes into the Aetherial abyss, warping nearby enemies with a focused liminal tear.”
- Solais: Lion of Light: “The warmth of Light courses through you as you send foes screaming into darkness.”
