How to Upgrade and Level Weapons in Mo.Co: Weapon Sprints, Cores and Mastery

Mo.Co has no single weapon-XP bar. This guide explains Weapon Sprints for unlocking weapons, Upgrade Cores for combat boosts, and Dojo, Milestone and Elite Contract Mastery progression.

Mo.Co does not use one ordinary weapon-level number that rises whenever you defeat a monster. In the current reworked game, “leveling a weapon” can mean three different things: unlocking it through a Weapon Sprint, improving its combat bonuses with Upgrade Cores, or completing that weapon’s Mastery tracks. Each system progresses differently and pays out different rewards.

Use the section that matches your goal. If you want another weapon, earn Chaos Energy for its Weapon Sprint. If you want stronger battle statistics, equip and fuse Upgrade Cores. If you want weapon-specific challenges and permanent rewards, open the weapon’s Mastery page.

What “leveling a weapon” means in Mo.Co

Supercell describes each Mo.Co weapon as a fully equipped class with its own predefined skills. That design is why normal monster kills do not simply add experience to a conventional weapon-level bar. Instead, progression is divided among three systems:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Weapon Sprints are the unlock track. Chaos Energy advances a selected sprint until it awards the corresponding weapon and other sprint rewards.
  • Upgrade Cores are the direct combat-improvement system. Cores add effects such as damage, attack speed or maximum health to an equipped weapon.
  • Weapon Mastery is the long-term completion track for an individual weapon. Dojo Challenges, Milestones and Elite Contracts test different aspects of using that weapon and grant cosmetic, currency and progression rewards.

The three systems can be pursued at the same time, but progress in one does not automatically count as progress in the others. Defeating monsters may help you find Upgrade Cores and may also contribute to activities that award Chaos Energy, yet it is not a hidden weapon-XP system.

Choose the right progression system

What you want Progress system What advances it What it gives
Unlock another weapon Weapon Sprint Chaos Energy from Expedition Jobs, Rift Goals, monster defeats, helping friendlies, Daily Jobs and a maintained Daily Goal Streak The sprint’s corresponding weapon and other listed rewards
Improve combat bonuses Upgrade Cores Core drops from monsters and fusing cores One of eight documented effect types, with four tiers of effectiveness
Complete weapon-specific goals Weapon Mastery Dojo Challenges, Milestones and Elite Contracts Badges, Metrics, Upgrade Cores, a Golden Weapon Shader, an Expert title and mo.gold

This separation prevents a common mistake: repeatedly defeating ordinary enemies while expecting a permanent weapon level to rise. Fight monsters because the activity gives you a particular resource or satisfies a listed goal, not because every kill grants an undocumented weapon level.

How to unlock a weapon with a Weapon Sprint

Open the Weapon Sprint that contains the weapon

Weapon Sprints are the route to weapons you do not yet own. At the start of a season, the relaunch notes say players choose from three Weapon Sprints. Another sprint becomes available after the previous one is finished. The exact requirements and reward pool are seasonal, so the sprint you see in the client is the authority for your current season.

Open the relevant sprint and inspect its reward track before choosing where to spend time. The weapon is tied to that sprint, while the other nodes can contain additional rewards. Selecting a sprint does not make monster kills grant weapon experience; it identifies the track that will receive your Chaos Energy.

Earn Chaos Energy

Chaos Energy is the resource that moves a Weapon Sprint forward. Supercell’s Resources guide describes it this way: “Earn Chaos Energy to increase your Career and Season level and progress along your Weapon Sprints!” The game lists several ways to obtain it:

  • Expedition Jobs: each Job displays its Chaos Energy reward in the Expeditions menu. Completing the Job awards the amount shown there.
  • Rift Goals: finish the currently listed goals to receive their stated rewards.
  • Monster defeats: defeating monsters is one of the documented sources, although the amount depends on the activity and its displayed reward rules.
  • Helping friendlies: assist friendly characters when the activity offers Chaos Energy.
  • Daily Jobs: complete the available daily tasks for their listed rewards.
  • Daily Goal Streak: maintain the streak to collect the Chaos Energy associated with it.

Expedition Jobs are the clearest place to verify an exact amount because the menu shows the reward before you launch the Job. There is no documented universal “best farm” in the support material; compare the activities currently available to you and follow the reward shown in-game rather than relying on an old season’s route.

Claim the sprint reward

Continue earning Chaos Energy until the sprint reaches its weapon reward. The weapon is awarded when the corresponding node or milestone is completed according to the track shown in your client. If a sprint offers several reward steps, check each claim prompt: finishing a Job or goal can advance the track, but the weapon itself may require reaching a later node.

After finishing the selected sprint, the relaunch notes describe another sprint becoming available. This is a seasonal progression rule from the reworked experience, not a promise that every future season will use identical numbers, ordering or reward pools.

How to improve a weapon with Upgrade Cores

Upgrade Cores are the documented direct combat boosts. Supercell summarizes their purpose as: “Upgrade Cores provide unique boosts during battle!” Cores are found through play, inserted from the Weapons menu and combined through fusion. They modify a weapon’s combat profile without creating a conventional weapon-level number.

1. Find cores by defeating monsters

Defeat monsters during your normal activities and check the cores that drop. Supercell notes that stronger monsters have a higher chance of dropping more powerful cores. The statement describes a greater chance, not a guaranteed tier or a fixed percentage, so a difficult enemy can still produce a core that is not the one you want.

2. Insert a core from the Weapons menu

  1. Open the Weapons menu.
  2. Select the weapon you want to improve.
  3. Choose an available core slot and insert a stored Upgrade Core.
  4. Confirm the loadout so the core’s effect is active in battle.

Interface wording can change while Mo.Co is in beta, but the documented workflow is to manage the core from the weapon screen rather than from a separate character-level menu. Read the effect shown on the core before confirming; the effect belongs to the equipped core and is applied to that weapon’s combat setup.

3. Understand the eight documented effects

The support article lists eight Upgrade Core types:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Core type What it is intended to improve
Damage Raises the weapon’s damage output.
Critical Damage Improves the damage dealt by critical hits.
Attack Speed Improves how quickly attacks can be performed.
Cooldown Improves cooldown-related uptime for applicable abilities.
Healing Improves healing your weapon or build provides.
Healing Received Improves healing received by the character.
Max Health Raises maximum health.
Dodge Improves the dodge-related benefit described by the core.

These are effect categories, not a universal ranking. A damage core may be useful for a direct offensive build, while cooldown, healing or maximum-health effects can be more valuable when survival or ability uptime is the limiting factor. The official guide does not establish a best core for every weapon, so match the effect to the weapon’s skills and the activity you are playing instead of treating one category as automatically superior.

4. Fuse cores for a stronger result

Use the fusion option to combine cores of the same type. Fusion can produce a stronger core, or you can choose a random-core outcome where the interface offers that choice. The documented system has four tiers per core, and higher tiers provide a more effective boost. The support material does not publish a complete table of charge costs, tier percentages or the number of copies required for every fusion, so use the quantities displayed in your current client.

Fusion is separate from inserting a core. First decide which effect you need, then combine spare cores when the resulting tier or random outcome is worth the materials. Keep in mind that a random result may not match the weapon you are currently tuning.

5. Know the replacement rule before experimenting

Equipped cores cannot be freely removed. To replace one, use a core with a higher charge. The displaced core returns to storage instead of being permanently destroyed. This rule matters when testing a build: do not assume that you can insert any lower-charge alternative and swap it back immediately. If the replacement is not higher charge, the game will not treat it as a valid free removal.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The return-to-storage behavior also means a replaced core is not lost forever. It remains available for another weapon or for later fusion, subject to the charge requirement for whatever weapon you equip it on.

How Weapon Mastery levels your relationship with a weapon

Weapon Mastery is neither a weapon unlock track nor a core-stat screen. It records goals completed with a particular weapon and persists across seasons. The Masteries Update states: “Mastery progress does not reset with seasons, so everything you earn stays forever.” That makes Mastery the appropriate system when your goal is to finish a weapon’s challenges, earn its title or collect its long-term rewards.

Dojo Challenges

The Dojo contains weapon-specific timed challenges. It has three difficulty levels, and each difficulty has three challenges. Select the weapon’s Mastery page, enter its Dojo track and read the objective and timer before starting. The challenge may test how efficiently you use the weapon rather than how many general matches you play, so equip the weapon whose Mastery you intend to advance.

Because the Dojo is timed, treat the displayed conditions as the rules for that attempt. A challenge can require a particular type of defeat, damage output or other weapon-specific performance. The official notes establish the three-by-three structure but do not provide a universal list of every weapon’s timer or target; those values must be read from the live challenge screen.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Milestones

Milestones track cumulative use goals. Examples named in the Masteries Update include defeating enemies, dealing damage and taking down bosses. These goals reward repeated use over multiple activities, unlike a single timed Dojo attempt. Check the milestone text for the weapon you are using and keep that weapon equipped when you want its progress to count.

Mastery milestones can award Upgrade Cores. The core reward is therefore another way Mastery can improve your combat setup, but it does not replace the core-drop and fusion workflow described above.

It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.

Elite Contracts

Elite Contracts award stars according to their goals and your performance. Work through the contract objectives shown on the weapon’s Mastery page, then collect the star progress associated with the result. The track’s milestones include Upgrade Cores, and the final milestone unlocks a Golden Weapon Shader.

Elite Contracts are performance-based, so simply completing a mission is not necessarily enough for the highest star result. Read the contract’s conditions before launching and choose activities where the weapon’s strengths fit the required performance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mastery rewards and the Expert title

Across the three tracks, Mastery rewards can include Badges, profile Metrics, Upgrade Cores, a Golden Weapon Shader, an Expert title and mo.gold. Completing every Mastery goal for a weapon awards its Expert title and mo.gold, according to the Masteries Update. The progress remains after a season ends, so a partially completed weapon does not return to zero when the seasonal configuration changes.

A practical progression plan

Use this order when you are unsure what to do next:

  1. Set the goal. Decide whether you need an unlocked weapon, stronger combat bonuses or Mastery rewards. This determines which screen and resource matter.
  2. For an unlock, open Weapon Sprints. Select an available sprint and note its weapon reward and current requirements.
  3. Collect Chaos Energy from displayed activities. Check Expedition Job rewards, then complete Rift Goals, Daily Jobs, monster-defeat activities, friendly-assistance tasks and your Daily Goal Streak as they appear.
  4. For combat power, inspect your stored cores. Choose the effect that addresses your weapon’s actual weakness rather than automatically choosing Damage.
  5. Insert the core through Weapons. Confirm the loadout and remember that replacing it requires a higher-charge core; the displaced core returns to storage.
  6. Fuse duplicates when the result is useful. Same-type fusion can create a stronger core, and the system has four tiers. Use the quantities and outcomes shown in your client.
  7. For permanent weapon goals, open Mastery. Work through Dojo Challenges, Milestones and Elite Contracts, checking each objective before you start.

This plan avoids spending time on a system that cannot deliver the reward you want. For example, doing Dojo attempts will not unlock a Weapon Sprint weapon by itself, and fusing cores will not complete a boss-defeat Mastery milestone unless the resulting activity also satisfies that milestone.

What the current documentation does not establish

There is no documented universal per-weapon level cap in the current support material. It also does not provide a complete numeric table for core charge requirements, the exact percentage supplied by every tier, or every weapon’s Mastery target and timer. Do not use numbers from older versions of Mo.Co as if they applied to the reworked beta.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When planning a build, rely on the values and requirements shown in the live Weapons, Weapon Sprint and Mastery screens. The four-tier count and eight effect categories are documented system rules, but the numerical strength of a particular core and the cost of a particular fusion can be configured separately.

Seasonal changes and the beta caveat

Weapon Sprint requirements and reward pools can change from season to season. For example, one Season 5 announcement stated that no new weapons were being introduced in that season and identified Medicine Ball, Storm Weaver and Pyro as entering the P.E.R.K. reward pool. That announcement applies to that update only; it is not an evergreen rule for every season. Check the current in-game sprint and the latest release notes before assuming a weapon is available in a particular pool.

Supercell’s support site currently describes Mo.Co as being back in beta. The reworked systems described here are the documented current framework, but labels, reward quantities and seasonal availability can change while the game is updated. A missing button or different reward order may therefore reflect a client update rather than an error in your account.

Troubleshooting weapon progression

My weapon is not gaining a level

That is expected if you are looking for a conventional weapon-XP bar. Check whether your intended progress belongs to a Weapon Sprint, Upgrade Core slot or Mastery track. Then perform the activity that advances that specific system.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Chaos Energy did not advance the weapon I wanted

Open your selected Weapon Sprint and verify that it is the active track. Chaos Energy advances the sprint you are progressing, not an arbitrary weapon in your collection. Also confirm that the activity actually listed Chaos Energy as a reward before starting it.

I cannot remove an equipped core

Use a higher-charge replacement. The documented rule does not allow free removal or replacement with any lower-charge core. Once replaced by a valid higher-charge core, the old core returns to storage.

A fusion did not give the effect I expected

Check whether you selected a random-core outcome rather than a same-type fusion result. Fusion can produce a stronger core, while the random option can produce a different category. Review the result in storage before equipping it.

My Mastery reset after a season

The Masteries Update says Mastery progress does not reset with seasons. Reopen the weapon’s Mastery page and verify that you are viewing the same weapon and account profile. If the displayed progress conflicts with that documented rule, check the current client’s support notices before assuming the goals must be completed again.
