Use the guide as a strategy reference, not official developer policy, and check current in-game costs and fusion previews before spending.
Why your sixth-highest fighter matters
Combat Codex says auto-leveling in Hard Mode, Sewers, and Club Smash is based on the level of your sixth-highest fighter. That makes the practical leveling plan different from simply raising every fighter you might use: a heavily leveled seventh fighter can push enemy levels up in those modes while leaving your core six no stronger.
The guide recommends choosing six fighters for your main team and concentrating actual level investment there. Fighters outside that group can still be useful: it suggests taking relevant bench fighters to level 80 to access weapons in auto-level modes, while avoiding levels that put them among the top six. The exact behavior and thresholds should be checked in game if a later update changes the modes.
If you reset a fighter
The progression guide says resetting refunds gold and elixir, but does not undo the auto-level consequences if a fighter has already entered the top six. Treat a reset as a way to recover resources, not a reliable way to erase the effect of having raised an extra fighter.

How to allocate gold, elixir, and platinum
These currencies have different roles, so do not spend them as if they were interchangeable. Combat Codex’s currency guide describes elixir as scarce and recommends focusing it on the main team.

Promote with a plan, not just because you can
Promoting a fighter consumes duplicate copies to raise its rank and level cap. Combat Codex’s Promotion Costs page lays out rank requirements and costs; those game-specific figures should be checked against the current version before committing copies.

The progression guide identifies two useful milestones: Master at level 180, where it says a skill milestone is reached, and Grandmaster at level 240, which it says unlocks a second dragon slot and charms. Use these as planning markers rather than a reason to promote fighters you do not intend to build.
Combat Codex also advises against taking two separate copies of the same elite fighter to Ultra rank or above. Its progression guide says leveling before fusion is unnecessary because the leveling resources are returned in full; because this is a third-party guide’s claim and fusion rules can change, inspect the in-game fusion preview before acting.

What to spend gems and shop currencies on
Combat Codex’s currency recommendations include market pizza, tapes, gold, five-orb bundles, elite dragon shards, and building materials, as well as daily gold and some event-specific items. The guide treats some purchases as situational, and these are recommendations rather than developer rules. Shop inventory, prices, event details, and the value of an item to your account can vary, so weigh each offer against what your core six need and what you are saving for.
Use events as an opportunity, not a fixed routine
The Combat Codex beginner guide recommends participating in the Mech Event when it is active, citing dojo coins and other rewards. Event schedules, requirements, and rewards are volatile; check the current event screen rather than relying on an old schedule or reward list. A simple spending decision before each upgrade
- Check whether the fighter is one of your core six. If not, avoid substantial levels that could move the fighter into the top six and affect auto-level modes.
- Identify the currency and its job. Keep elixir focused on the main team, use gold with the guide’s stated priority order, and preserve platinum for its later progression uses.
- Check your next promotion milestone. Decide whether you are deliberately pursuing Master at 180 or Grandmaster at 240, and avoid spending duplicate copies on fighters you do not plan to build.
- Verify time-sensitive details in game. Inspect fusion previews, current shop offers, thresholds, and event rewards before committing scarce resources.
