To move a local Soulmask world to a dedicated server, stop the server, back up its current save, upload your local world.db into the folder for the correct map, optionally upload GameXishu.json for gameplay settings, select that same map, and restart. The server and the save must use the same Soulmask version.

The important distinction is that world.db contains the world and player data, while GameXishu.json is a separate settings file. Replacing world.db overwrites the server’s existing world; Soulmask currently has no save-merging method.

What you are uploading
A local Soulmask save is not one undifferentiated folder. The world database and gameplay settings have different jobs and different destinations on the server.

Because player data is contained in world.db, uploading that file transfers the characters and their progress stored in that world. It also replaces whatever world currently exists in the destination folder. A server cannot combine two different world.db files, so decide which save is authoritative before you begin.

Prepare the server and your local copy
Have these items ready before opening the server’s file manager or FTP connection:
- Access to the server control panel’s file browser or its FTP credentials.
- The local Windows machine on which the Soulmask save was created.
- The map used by the local save: Cloud Mist Forest or Shifting of Sands.
- A local backup copy of the files you are about to upload.
- A server running the same Soulmask version as the save.
Do not treat a version mismatch as harmless. A save made on a different game version may fail to load correctly or produce unexpected behavior. Update the server or the game installation first so both sides match, then begin the transfer.
Stop the server and back up its current save
Uploading while the process is writing to the database can leave you with an incomplete or immediately overwritten transfer. Nitrado’s published guidance is explicit: “We recommend stopping your server before you upload or replace any save file, then restarting it once the upload finishes.”
- Open the hosting control panel and choose the server’s stop or shut-down command. Wait until the status shows that the process is fully stopped, not merely restarting.
- Use the panel’s backup function, if available, or download the existing server save through the file manager or FTP. Keep this backup outside the server directory and give it a date-based name.
- Keep an untouched copy of your local
world.dband any local settings file. If a transfer goes wrong, these copies let you retry without creating another save. - Note the map currently selected in the server settings. You will need to set it to the map from which the local save came.
The backup is essential because replacing the destination database is destructive: the previous server world is no longer the active world after the replacement. A backup is also the only straightforward rollback if the wrong map or wrong local folder was selected.
Find the local Soulmask save on Windows
Soulmask stores the relevant files under the Windows local-application-data directory. In File Explorer, press Win+R, enter %LOCALAPPDATA%, and press Enter. Then browse to this complete pattern:

The bracketed portions are identifiers from your installation, not folders literally named [YOUR-STEAM-ID] or [YOUR-GAME-INVITE-ID]. The final invite-ID folder is the one that normally contains the save files. Look for:
world.db— the world and player database you will transfer.GameXishu.json— the optional gameplay-settings file.- A numbered variant such as
GameXishu_2.json— a settings file that must be renamed before it is used as the server’s active settings file.
If you see several invite-ID folders
Do not upload the first database you find automatically. Open each candidate folder and check its modification time and contents. Match the folder to the world you most recently played. The server expects the database file itself, not the entire Windows directory tree, so do not preserve the WS...AutoGames hierarchy when uploading.
Preserve the files before editing names
Copy world.db and the settings file to a separate temporary folder before renaming anything. If the local settings file is named GameXishu_2.json, make a copy and rename the copy to exactly GameXishu.json. Keep the original numbered file unchanged in case you need to identify it later.
Choose the correct map destination
The remote directory is different for each supported map. Uploading a valid database to the other map’s directory does not convert the save; it leaves the server looking in the wrong place.

The capitalization and directory names matter. In particular, Cloud Mist Forest uses Level01_Main, while Shifting of Sands uses DLC_Level01_Main. Confirm the map before opening the destination folder, especially if the panel displays several similarly named directories.
Upload world.db with the server stopped
Hosting panels present these controls differently, but the operation is the same whether you use a web file manager or FTP.
- Open the server’s File Manager, Files, or FTP connection while the server remains stopped.
- Navigate to the map-specific path from the table above.
- Locate the existing
world.db. Download it if you did not already create a panel backup. - Upload your local
world.dbto that exact directory and choose the panel’s replace or overwrite option when prompted. - Check the resulting filename. It must be
world.db, notworld (1).db,world.db.db, or another renamed variant.
Do not upload the local parent folder, and do not place the file in /WS/Saved/Worlds/Dedicated/ without its map subfolder. The server loads the database from the map-specific location.
Upload the optional gameplay settings file
GameXishu.json is independent of the world database. Upload it only if you want the local gameplay settings on the dedicated server as well. If the local folder contains only world.db, the world transfer can still proceed.

GameXishu.json. Rename a numbered file such asGameXishu_2.jsonbefore uploading. - In the server file manager or FTP client, open
/WS/Saved/GameplaySettings/. - Back up any existing
GameXishu.jsonin that directory. - Upload the local file and replace the destination file if you intend to replace the server’s settings.
Keep the settings transfer separate from the world transfer when troubleshooting. If the world loads correctly but a rule or multiplier is different, the database is not necessarily at fault; check the filename and the settings directory first.

Set the map and restart the server
- Return to the server’s configuration page after both uploads finish.
- Set the server map to the map that produced the local save. Select Cloud Mist Forest for
Level01_Mainor Shifting of Sands forDLC_Level01_Main. - Save the configuration if the panel has a separate save or apply button.
- Start the server. If it was already running because the panel auto-started it, stop it again, wait for a complete shutdown, and start it once more.
- Join the server with the same account that played the local world and inspect the expected world and character data.
The first start after a replacement can take longer while the server reads the database. Judge success by whether the intended world and player progress appear after joining, not merely by whether the panel reports “running.”
Verify the transfer in a controlled way
Use a short checklist rather than changing several files at once:

- The selected map matches the local map.
- The world has landmarks, structures, and progression you recognize from the local save.
- Your expected player character and progress are present.
- The server’s gameplay behavior matches the uploaded settings, if you transferred
GameXishu.json. - No new blank-world prompt or freshly generated starting state appears.
Have every intended player join only after you confirm the world is correct. This avoids confusing a successful world transfer with a player joining through a different account or server entry.

The server starts a new or empty world
Stop the server and check the three most likely causes in order: the map selection, the remote path, and the source folder. Cloud Mist Forest must use Level01_Main; Shifting of Sands must use DLC_Level01_Main. Verify that the uploaded file is named exactly world.db and that it came from the intended invite-ID folder. Restore the backup if you are unsure which database is active, then repeat the transfer with the server stopped.
The world loads, but a player appears to be missing
Confirm that you uploaded the complete world.db from the local world rather than a different invite-ID folder. Player data is stored in that database; it is not supplied by GameXishu.json. Soulmask does not currently provide a way to merge player data from separate saves, so uploading another database will replace the first one rather than add its characters.

Gameplay settings did not change
Check that the file was renamed from any numbered form to GameXishu.json, uploaded to /WS/Saved/GameplaySettings/, and replaced the old file. A settings file left in the map directory, or left with a suffix such as _2, will not be the active file expected by the server.

Confirm that the server was fully stopped before the upload and fully restarted afterward. Reopen the remote directory and verify the file’s name and location rather than relying only on the upload-success message. If the panel restored an automatic backup or regeneration after startup, stop the server, restore your known-good backup, and repeat the operation.
The server and local game are on different versions
Bring both installations to the same Soulmask version before testing the save again. Do not use a successful file upload as proof that the versions are compatible; the database can transfer correctly while the game still fails to load it as intended.
Roll back safely
- Stop the server and wait for the stopped status.
- Restore the backed-up map-specific
world.dbto the same directory, or use the panel’s restore function. - Restore the previous
GameXishu.jsononly if you replaced the server’s settings. - Confirm the original map selection and matching Soulmask version.
- Start the server and verify the restored world before attempting another transfer.
Keep the local save untouched until the dedicated server has been verified. Since there is no merge operation, retaining both the original local database and the server backup is the safest way to move between worlds.
What to check when choosing a server host
The upload procedure depends more on file access and recovery controls than on a particular brand name. Before renting a server, verify these capabilities directly in the provider’s current documentation:
