To use a Chemist in Schedule 1, assign the employee a bed or locker and fund their wages, then use the management clipboard to assign them to production machines. Configure a recipe on any Chemistry Station, set output destinations, and make sure machines receive ingredients: Chemists generally move finished output but do not load inputs. Exact costs, unlock requirements, menus, and behavior can change, so check the current game.
What a Chemist does
A Chemist automates work at assigned production machines and moves completed output onward. The community Chemists reference lists Mixing Stations, Mixing Station Mk2s, Chemistry Stations, Lab Ovens, and Cauldrons as supported machine types, with up to four machines assigned to one Chemist. That limit and supported-machine list are community-sourced and may vary by game version.
Do not plan on the Chemist supplying ingredients. The reference says Chemists generally do not load inputs, so you may need another worker to replenish machines or a compatible direct route from one machine to the next.
Set up a Chemist
- Meet the employee requirements. Assign the Chemist a bed or locker on a property that supports employees. The community reference recommends a locker. Have wage funds available before expecting the employee to work.
- Hire and fund the employee. The community reference says Chemists are hired from Manny in the Warehouse after reaching Hoodlum V. Treat that unlock as version-sensitive and confirm the current requirement in your game. The same reference reports a $1,500 signing fee plus $100 for each existing employee and a $300 daily wage; these are not verified current prices, so check the in-game amounts before budgeting.
- Assign machines with the management clipboard. Use the clipboard to select the Chemist and assign the machines in their production line. The community reference reports a maximum of four machines per Chemist.
- Set a Chemistry Station recipe. Use the clipboard to configure the station’s recipe. According to the community reference, a Chemistry Station with no recipe selected will not run under a Chemist.
- Configure output destinations. Set each machine to send completed product where it needs to go next: another compatible station or storage. The dated Schedule 1 guide describes destination setup, but its exact menu details may not match the current interface.
- Supply ingredients and test the line. Keep inputs available through handler delivery or compatible machine routing. Start with a small supply and verify that each machine receives ingredients and sends output to the intended destination before expanding production.
Plan the production layout
There is no source-established universally best layout. Choose based on how many and which machines one Chemist will manage, how ingredients reach those machines, and whether output goes directly to the next station or through storage. Direct routing can reduce manual transfers when the game permits it; handlers can cover replenishment that the Chemist does not perform. A setup with more stations or recipe steps may require more careful destination and supply checks.

A dated guide gives a Chemistry Station → Lab Oven → Mixing Station example. Treat it as a possible workflow, not a guarantee that stocked storage alone will make the Chemist handle every input. Confirm each handoff in the current game.

Why won’t my Chemist work?
- No work starts: Check that the employee has a bed or locker, is assigned to the property and machines, and has wage funds available.
- The Chemistry Station is idle: Open its clipboard management settings and confirm that a recipe is selected.
- A machine is out of ingredients: Arrange handler delivery or a compatible direct route. Do not assume the Chemist will load the machine.
- Output does not reach the next step: Inspect the machine’s destination settings and any intermediate storage or station routes.
- Your menus or requirements differ: Follow the labels and requirements shown in your current game. The available guide is dated April 6, 2025, and there are no current official patch notes established here to confirm that every detail remains unchanged.
