The game’s PC Quick Start Guide documents a controller layout, but it does not confirm that every current controller will work without adjustment.
Set up a controller in Dementium II HD
- Connect your controller before launching the game.
- Start Dementium II HD and choose Options from the main menu.
- Open the controls configuration and select or customize the controller setup.
- Use the default mapping below as a starting point, then test movement, looking, interaction, and attacking in a safe area.
The Dementium II HD PC Quick Start Guide in the game’s Steam Community hub states that the game supports both controller and keyboard-and-mouse setups and directs players to customize controls in Options.

Button labels describe the guide’s layout; the physical labels or prompts on your controller may differ. Check the in-game mapping if a control does not match your device.

Native controls or Steam Input?
Start with the game’s own controller setup. Steamworks also offers per-game controller mapping through Steam Input, but its general documentation does not establish a Dementium II HD-specific layout or confirm compatibility with particular current devices. Use Steam Input only if the game does not recognize your controller as expected or you need to remap inputs.
- Game recognizes the controller and its mapping works: keep the in-game setup.
- The controller is detected but buttons behave differently than expected: check the in-game controls configuration first, then consider remapping through Steam Input.
- The game does not respond to the controller: verify that it is connected and review the game’s control settings. The available documentation does not establish a guaranteed fix for every device.

Controller compatibility and troubleshooting
A pinned January 2014 controller support thread in the game’s Steam Community hub discusses Xbox 360 controllers and distinguishes Microsoft-manufactured devices from licensed third-party controllers when asking players to report problems. That is historical troubleshooting context, not a current compatibility list or a guarantee that a given Xbox, PlayStation, Bluetooth, or third-party controller will work.
Historical patch notes for “Patches Coming – v1.266 Now available” mention controller-support improvements and an interaction issue being investigated at the time. They do not establish the status of current hardware or provide a universal remedy. If an input fails, check the game’s mapping and whether it recognizes the controller before changing more settings.
