Steam recommends a wired DualSense for Stellar Blade on PC. Learn what to check for DualShock 4 adapters, Steam Input, and controller detection problems.

For the most straightforward setup, connect a PlayStation DualSense controller to your PC by wired USB, then launch the Steam version of Stellar Blade. Steam specifically recommends that connection and advertises responsive vibrations. If a controller is detected but behaves incorrectly, check the game’s Steam Input setting and change one setting at a time; the right choice depends on the controller and adapter.

Set up a DualSense controller

  1. Connect it by wired USB. Steam’s official Stellar Blade listing recommends a PlayStation DualSense on a wired USB connection. PlayStation’s PC feature page also lists DualSense wireless controller support with haptic feedback, but that does not establish that every haptic feature works wirelessly on every PC setup.
  2. Open the game through Steam. Before changing game settings, confirm the controller is connected and visible to your PC or Steam. If it is not detected there, address the connection first; the available official guidance does not give a complete Windows device-diagnostics procedure or a specific Windows fix.
  3. Test the game’s controls and vibration. Steam advertises responsive vibrations for the wired DualSense setup. Check whether the game responds and whether the features you want work before adjusting Steam Input.

You do not need to buy a DualSense if you already have a controller that works with your PC. However, the official sources do not provide a comprehensive compatibility or feature matrix for Xbox, Switch, generic XInput, or third-party controllers.

Choose the right Steam Input setting for your controller

Steam Input settings can affect whether a pad works and which controller features remain available. Start by identifying your controller and, for a DualShock 4, its adapter. Then test only the relevant per-game setting rather than changing several settings at once.

Controller and connection Guidance supported by available sources What to test
DualSense, wired USB Steam recommends this setup for Stellar Blade. Connect, launch through Steam, and test controls and vibration.
DualSense, wireless PlayStation lists wireless DualSense support with haptic feedback; feature behavior across all PC configurations is not established. Check whether the controller is detected and which desired features work in your setup.
DualShock 4 with the official Sony USB wireless adapter A SHIFT UP developer response says the adapter should work as intended. Confirm the adapter and controller are connected and detected, then test the game.
DualShock 4 with a generic Bluetooth adapter In a June 2, 2025 Steam discussion, a SHIFT UP developer response says Steam Input must be enabled for this controller to function properly. Enable Steam Input for the game and retest.
Other controllers The official sources do not establish a full model-by-model compatibility or feature list. Confirm PC or Steam detection, then test controls and features without assuming parity with DualSense.

The DualShock 4 guidance is specific to the adapter cases described by the developer; it is not a universal rule for every controller, game build, or operating system. Read the Steam discussion about DualShock 4 controller problems for that dated guidance.

Fix a controller that is detected but not working properly

  1. Separate connection problems from game problems. If the controller is not visible to the operating system or Steam, changing the game’s mapping is unlikely to help. Recheck the physical or wireless connection and whether Steam detects the controller before adjusting per-game settings.
  2. Open the game’s controller settings in Steam. Review the per-title Steam controller configuration for Stellar Blade. If you are using a DualShock 4 with a generic Bluetooth adapter, enable Steam Input as described in the developer response above.
  3. Test one change at a time. If a detected controller’s inputs or features are wrong, try changing the per-game Steam Input setting and retest. A community-maintained Steam Input database entry for Stellar Blade reports virtual gamepad support and warns that Steam Input may disable some partial controller features. Treat that as a troubleshooting lead, not an official guarantee that toggling Steam Input will fix detection, mapping, prompts, or feature loss.
  4. Retest after each change. Check game input, on-screen prompts, and the features you care about after each adjustment. If nothing improves, restore the setting that worked better before and consult Steam Support’s Stellar Blade gameplay or technical issue page rather than relying on unsupported driver downloads or third-party remappers.

What the PC requirements do—and do not—tell you

Steam lists Windows 10 64-bit, 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, and 75 GB of storage among the minimum requirements. These are general PC requirements, not controller-specific troubleshooting steps. Steam’s minimum graphics and processor requirements are Intel Core i5-7600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X, with GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB or Radeon RX 580 8 GB. Its recommended requirements are Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, 16 GB RAM, RTX 2060 SUPER or Radeon RX 5700 XT, DirectX 12, and 75 GB of storage. Check Steam’s technical issue and requirements page for the current listing.
