Grandpa usually returns the following day. If the reassessment brings your total to 12 or more points, all four candles light; interact with the shrine to claim the Statue of Perfection.
How to request a reassessment
-
Go to Grandpa’s Shrine in the far northwest corner of your farm.
-
Place one Diamond in the shrine. This requests another evaluation; the Diamond does not add points to your score.
-
Wait for Grandpa to return. The evaluation usually happens the following day, but it can be delayed until you load the game or reach the first day of a new season. The shrine’s in-game note reads, “Wait for my return at the dawn of the 3rd year,” as transcribed on the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Grandpa’s Shrine page.

How many points are needed for four candles?
The evaluation has 21 possible points. The candle result depends on your total:

|---|---|
| 0–3 | One |

| 8–11 | Three |
| 12 or more | Four |
These thresholds are documented on the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Grandpa page. A Diamond only triggers the check; it does not increase the point total.
What the evaluation checks
Grandpa awards points for progress across several parts of a save. The listed categories include total earnings, Community Center progress, keys, skills, achievements, friendship, marriage, and pet affection. Which goals are practical before your next evaluation depends on your current save, so review your remaining milestones rather than treating the Diamond as a way to buy a better result.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why might the evaluation scene not appear?
A marriage cutscene can take priority over the Year 3 evaluation scene. The shrine’s candles can still reflect the evaluation, and the scene may play the next time you enter the farmhouse. Timing can also vary around game loading or the start of a new season; the cited wiki pages document these exceptions but do not establish identical timing across every platform or version.
